This new home occupies a corner lot in a prestigious golf course development in Markham. The owners wanted maximum enjoyment of the yard with minimum maintenance. Consequently, the designers at Betz incorporated premium quality natural stone hardscapes which they augmented with dense plantings to enhance privacy.

Love this girls' bedroom! I can image this girl curling up on the window seat and reading a book for hours. The lavender and pale yellow walls are a perfect color combination. The white bedding is light and airy, which gives a whimsical look to the bedroom. The flower rugs are a perfect addition to this room and is complete with the shutters on the bay windows. This kitchen was designed with the intent of hosting large family gatherings, upwards of twenty people at a time. Locating the kitchen adjacent to the informal eating area, the family room and the patio, was the ideal choice for entertaining. The implementation of a large double island, in an unexpected “L” shape, allowed for a ton of extra space without consequently feeling like an industrial environment. The choice to panel the expansive fridge and freezer allowed the mirrored stainless-steel display cabinets to really become a focal point in the space. These cabinets worked perfectly to house the client’s large stemware collection. Repeating the mirrored finish on the other side of the room, with a refined hood fan exudes glamour. Lastly, the sophisticated hardware and sculptural light fixtures elevate this kitchen to the contemporary, yet traditional, formal style found throughout the rest of the home.

Consequently, Betz recommended a 13’ x 26’ Lautner edge perimeter overflow pool, which was set perfectly flush with the deck to create the appearance of a sheet of glass. Full width walk-in steps extend the minimal look.

Wet Bar Challenge: Working with the designer, who had a clear vision for the wet bar that included a “wave effect” for the backsplash, a temporary problem presented itself. The tile installer knew that he would not be able to cut the radius tile. Progressive Design Build was called in to find a solution, and solution they did. By installing drywall over the tile instead of cutting the tile, we could create the illusion the designer envisioned. Consequently, we installed the tile on the wall and then installed the drywall over the tile. The drywall formed the wave effect, rather than the other way around, and created the illusion of the radius that the designer dreamed of originally.

Regulations imposed by the towns restrict the height and size of new homes and remodeling of existing homes. In consequence to this concern for scale and habitat architects are known for creative utilization of interior spaces. Created by Bentley and Churchill Architects this cottage is a wonderful example of fully utilized space, easy living interiors and with an eye towards the timelessness of the island. Jaeger & Ernst cabinetmakers were chosen for our design sensibility, craftsmanship and an ability to move seamlessly between cabinetry, furniture and millwork. Although each portion of the home is complex in it’s fitting and structure the overall impression is one of inviting simplicity.
