This kitchen was completely remodeled. The space was a full gut down to the studs and sub floors. The biggest challenge in the space was reorienting the layout to accommodate an island, larger appliances and leveling the space. The floors were more than a few inches out of level. We also turned a U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula into an L-shape with and island and relocated the sink to create a more open, eat-in area. An additional area that was taken into consideration was the half bathroom just off the kitchen. Originally the bathroom opened up directly into the kitchen creating a break in the circulation. The toilet was rotated 180 degrees and flipped the bathroom to the other side of the area allowing the door to open and close without interfering with meal prep. Three of the most important design features include the bold navy blue cabinets, professional appliances and modern material selection including matte brass hardware and fixtures (FAUCET, POT FILLER, PENDANTS ETC…), Herringbone backsplash, tile and white marble countertops.

We relocated the entry point from the master suite to the hallway, providing early morning access to the bath without disturbing the later rising spouse. A new Marvin double-hung window added considerable light to the space fulfilling one of their key design requirements. "As a company that prides itself on intelligent design, this particular project really shows how much thought and individual lifestyle considerations go into every remodel, regardless of how simple it may appear at the onset," explains Mann. "We spent an entire morning working on the tub faucet location for ease of use when she's in the tub, access for cleaning, and aesthetics," explains Mann.

Considered by some a tear down, after 60 years the home was in definite need of TLC. This compact condominium guest bathroom does dual duty as both a bath and laundry room (machines are concealed by a bi-fold door most of the time). In an effort to provide guests with a welcoming environment, considerable attention was made in the color palette and features selected. A petit sink provides counterspace for grooming and guest toiletry travel bags. Frequent visits by young grandchildren and the slender depth of the vanity precipitated the decision to place the faucet on the side of the sink rather than in the back. Multiple light sources in this windowless room provides adequate illumination for both grooming and cleaning. The tall storage cabinet has doors that are hinged in opposite directions. The bottom door is hinged on the right to provide easy access to laundry soap while the top door is left hinged to provide easy access to towels and toiletries. The tile shower and wainscoting give this bathroom a truly special look and feel.

An appealing shade of blue gray paint paired with natural stacked stone brightened the exterior considerably, making it more reflective of the young new homeowners. The stone wall was built high to keep the clients’ dogs safe and undistracted by passers-by.

The first goal for this client in Chatham was to give them a front walk and entrance that was beautiful and grande. We decided to use natural blue bluestone tiles of random sizes. We integrated a custom cut 6" x 9" bluestone border and ran it continuous throughout. Our second goal was to give them walking access from their driveway to their front door. Because their driveway was considerably lower than the front of their home, we needed to cut in a set of steps through their driveway retaining wall, include a number of turns and bridge the walkways with multiple landings. While doing this, we wanted to keep continuity within the building products of choice. We used real stone veneer to side all walls and stair risers to match what was already on the house. We used 2" thick bluestone caps for all stair treads and retaining wall caps. We installed the matching real stone veneer to the face and sides of the retaining wall. All of the bluestone caps were custom cut to seamlessly round all turns. We are very proud of this finished product. We are also very proud to have had the opportunity to work for this family. Wood species like cedar and redwood are beauties to behold and even in our tough Minnesota climate they hold up exceedingly well. However, there are limits as this homeowner discovered after more than 20 years of deck-life. Upon inspection we discovered not only were the deck boards showing decay, the framing and support posts also had issues. The original install at the four season porch level was also found to be done improperly, without proper flashing or clearance between decking and patio door sill and so there was considerable rot damage there as well. We repaired the connection between the 4 season porch and deck, the deck structure that was compromised, put down new cedar decking and we stained everything with Storm System Cat 2 semi-transparent cedar tone oil finish. The effect is dramatic, the look unique, and while low maintenance composites are trending, there is something to be said for going all natural. In this Manhattan pied-à-terre renovation, Gallery tackled the entire apartment. A true full renovation, we updated the kitchen, master bathroom, and powder room, installed new flooring throughout the entire space, and built the entertainment center in the living room. DESIGN DETAILS The clients wanted their pied-à-terre to have some modern touches, but not too sleek or contemporary. Since it combines a number of styles and elements, transitional turned out to be their ideal aesthetic. Whites, grays, and earthy tones carried this color theme throughout the apartment. One of the clients is an artist and wanted wall space to display their original work, visible in the dining area and powder room in the photos below. The entertainment center is another highlight, with its white mosaic brick tile accent wall and glass open shelves to display family photos on both sides. Instead of tiles, the new powder room walls received a textured concrete application, resulting in an almost industrial vibe. In the master bathroom renovation, glass mosaic tile accent walls bring a touch of personality to both the shower and a storage nook opposite the vanity.
