Nestled at the end of a long flag lot driveway in Amagansett, NY, a young couple purchased the property with intentions to construct a second home for their growing family. A home that would not only be comfortable for the immediate family but also serve and grow on busy summer weekends to accommodate extended family, friends, children and guests. The tight lot along with the sizable program culminated in the building envelope being pushed to every limit, restriction and regulation one could imagine. The resulting architecture possesses a traditional Hamptons cottage exterior juxtaposed with modern elements that help break up the single mass. Centered on the entry façade is a large double story window that shrouds the floating switchback staircase on the interior. A bluestone patio wraps three sides of the home, which, in the rear, leads to a small in ground pool with a frameless glass railing. In the interior, custom white washed white oak floors run throughout the home as well as on the floating central staircase. For a more modern style of living, the open living, kitchen and dining area serve as one large entertaining space. In an area surrounded by sprawling Mcmansions, this tightly knit home functions more similar to that of a large NYC apartment by serving the perfect balance between maximized form with the right amount of function given the strict parameters. Large glass sliders open the living and dining rooms to the backyard patio and pool creating harmony between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Shaker style cabinets in the kitchen pair with a more contemporary staircase softened by the warmer wood tones of the vertical slats that surround it.

The proposal analyzes the site as a series of existing flows or “routes” across the landscape. The negotiation of both constructed and natural systems establishes the logic of the site plan and the orientation and organization of the new home. Conceptually, the project becomes a highly choreographed knot at the center of these routes, drawing strands in, engaging them with others, and propelling them back out again. The project’s intent is to capture and harness the physical and ephemeral sense of these latent natural movements as a way to promote in the architecture the wanderlust the surrounding landscape inspires. Originally built in 1929, this Edwin Ivey Tudor on a Lake Washington high bank lot, was long overdue for an update. The project consists of two main phases: a renovation of the existing house, and the construction of a new swimming pool and detached Spa building with hot tub and sauna. Our intent with the renovation was to improve the plan for our existing clients' contemporary lifestyle without altering the aesthetics of the original architecture. In addition to updating finishes and bathrooms, we created a new and expanded kitchen that opens to the existing Dining Room and lake view. Exterior porches were added and rebuilt to match the existing details. A basement of dingy storage rooms was transformed into a comfortable entertainment room with an adjacent wine cellar. The Spa is a modern building designed to complement the existing architecture through the use of similar materials and finishes. Large sliding glass doors open to connect the hot tub area with the pool terrace and take advantage of the expansive view. Closet - transitional closet idea in New York

This 5-story 1860’s Brooklyn townhouse features Zola’s triple-glazed Thermo Clad windows and doors in pine. Finding high performance windows that were large and quality-crafted was an important aspect of combining the passive house standard with the original intent of a top-notch design and tasteful renovation of the historic home. Zola’s Thermo Clad windows and door line fit the bill. The home is extremely comfortable and energy-efficient. According to Laura Mackall, they did not turn the heat on all winter, and the inside temperatures stayed at around 70 degrees inspite of record-low temperatures in New York City this past winter. This Kirkland couple purchased their home with the intent to remodel the lower floor into a master suite. H2D Architecture + Design worked closely with the owner to develop a plan to create an open plan master suite with a bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet. The bedroom and bathroom are divided with a two-sided gas fireplace. A large soaking tub and walk-in shower provide a spa-like atmosphere for the master bathroom. Lowell Custom Homes, Lake Geneva, WI. Lake house in Fontana, Wi. Classic shingle style architecture featuring fine exterior detailing and finished in Benjamin Moore’s Great Barrington Green HC122 with French Vanilla trim. The roof is Cedar Shake with Copper Gutters and Downspouts.

The master suite was the last remnant of 1980’s (?) design within this renovated Charlottesville home. The intent of Alloy's renovation was to incorporate universal design principles into the couple's bathroom while bringing the clean modern design aesthetic from the rest of the house into their master suite. After drastically altering the footprint of the existing bathroom to accommodate an occupant with compromised mobility, the architecture of this project, void of color, became a study in texture. To define the individual spaces of bathroom and to create a clean but not cold space, we used white tiles of various sizes, format, and material. In addition, the maple flooring that we installed in the bedroom was carried into the dry zones of the bathroom, while radiant heating was installed in the floors to create both physical and perceptual warmth throughout. This project also involved a closet expansion that employs a modular closet system, and the installation of a new vanity in the master bedroom. The remainder of the renovations in the bedroom include a large sliding glass door that opens to the adjoining deck, new flooring, and new light fixtures throughout. Andrea Hubbell Photography

Serving as a winter retreat for a family of world travelers, a thoughtfully composed program of calm, comforting spaces imbuing casual elegance is presented effortlessly in the landscape. Oriented around a central grand oak and its adjacent loblolly pine, the home wraps around them, celebrating the engagement of nature while maintaining privacy from neighboring homes. Working within height restrictions intended to keep massing as low to the ground as possible, we moved the ground plane up and the expression down to present an appearance of a home that lives low. Calculated plays on scale and proportion intentionally have different effects from different vantage points, ensuring the viewer perceives the architecture as humanly scaled from each important introduction to the home. Ascending a landscape stair that winds around the central oak and extends into the entry vitrine sitting at base flood, the entry foyer operates at two scales as limestone stairs matching the exterior ascend between walls passing portals that reveal limited views of activity within. 2022 Design + Service Awards Jury Citation for Residential New Construction, AIA Charleston

The original orchid house and gardening shed was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017. We re-built this structure in the same location on the property and added a few upgrades to the old structure. Not only does it now meet 180+ hurricane wind codes it also has a skylight beaming natural light into the storage shed area. We also installed a v-crimp metal roof. We custom made some Sapele Mahogany lattice for hanging orchids and a outdoor ceiling fan for hot summer days. The wood siding was made in a board and batten design and is made from Red Grandis, a Eucalyptus that is a sustainable product and perfect for outdoors. We finished the siding with an exterior grey stain with the intention for the structure to blend in with the surrounding landscaping.

A ground-up custom home in West University, designed and built as a single seamless project — concept through construction, one team, one vision. The architecture sets a confident, contemporary tone: a mixed-material facade of stone and brick, black steel-framed windows, and clean modern lines that carry through every interior space. Inside, the home is bright and open, built around how the family actually lives. Floor-to-ceiling windows pull light deep into the living and dining areas, while a restrained palette of warm woods, soft neutrals, and natural stone keeps everything feeling calm and collected. The kitchen anchors the main level — a generous waterfall island, brass pendants, and custom cabinetry scaled for both family life and entertaining. Quieter, more dramatic moments balance the openness: a moody black-tiled powder bath, a richly textured wet bar, and a spa-like primary suite with a freestanding shower and dual vanities. As a fully integrated design-build firm, we carried every decision from first sketch to final detail — a home that feels intentional, timeless, and entirely its own.

Crisp white walls create a clean backdrop for any decor, while the natural light streaming through the well-positioned window ensures the space feels bright and welcoming. The size of the room is ideal for a guest bedroom, home office, or nursery—flexible enough to adapt as the homeowners' needs evolve. The flooring's warm tone grounds the space, adding a layer of comfort to the minimalist aesthetic. Without unnecessary ornamentation, the focus remains on proportion, light, and adaptability.
