Maraya Interior Design created a new kitchen out of an old outdated space using white tile backsplashes and finding new porcelain tiles to match the old. Project Location: Thousand Oaks, California. This is a vignette we created in one of our home staging projects. These colors and elements pump up the Health sector of the home, which is East. Because we had to contend with a fireplace (the Fire element), we added a lot of green (Wood) and blue (Water), to "douse the fire" of the fireplace. The table is like a reflective lake, which also brings in the Water element.

During the selection process, the homeowner would send the designer photos and videos of her twins getting themselves into trouble… “we have these two to contend with – my house has to survive them!” Not a material was selected that longevity and ease of maintenance were first considered. Porcelain tile that looks like wood, glass backsplash, quartz counter tops, more durable paint all came together to create not only a beautiful space, but an easy-living one. The custom built venthood was designed using several inspiration images – culling individual elements from each photo. The wood is stained black while square nailheads accent sturdy lines.

This Renovation was given a complete overhaul including additions to the home. During the planning stages of this home we had so many structural obstacles to contend with, but ended up being the most interesting and unique parts to the home. Our approach for this home was to have a modern organic feeling with Asian influence. The design process began in the kitchen and as the kitchen took on its own personality the other design elements throughout the home carried thru to a clean and classic modern style. The tub room

The unique two sided fireplace looked a bit lost in the space, and there was a lot to contend with from patchwork walls that the previous owners had added. The wall space above the fireplace was opened in order to allow the flow of light into the room and enhance the two-sided nature of the brick fireplace. Custom reclaimed barnwood shelves and mantle were sourced in Maine, finishing the wall and drawing the eye to the fireplace. Soft furnishings were added, creating a comfortable place for the family to watch TV, Swivels serve to create a conversational friendly atmosphere, or can be turned to enjoy the cozy fire. Stain resistant fabrics and washable rugs make this room safe for children and pets. Recessed lighting was installed and the wall was extended to allow for the TV, the inlay in the floor adjusted to fit the new imprint.
