The present project, with its clear and simple forms, looks for the interaction with the rural environment and the contact with the surrounding buildings. The simplicity and architectural dialogue between form and function are the theme for inside and outside. Kitchen and dining area are facing each other. The isle leads to a made-to-measure corner bench that stretches under the wide windows along the entire length of the house and connects to the kitchen across the corner. Above the tall units with their integrated appliances, the window continues as a narrow band. The white high gloss acrylic surface of the kitchen fronts forms a decorative contrast to the wood of the floor and bench. White lacquered recessed handles provide a tranquil, two-dimensional effect.

This couple had already purchased the Restoration Hardware table, side board, and 4 chairs when they realized they were stuck at that. Just table and chairs, no color, pizzaz or details. They had already also purchased two round back head chairs in the same fabric. I convinced them that matching head chairs was not the way to go. So even though they wanted their first real "grown up" dining room, fun and uniqueness were the two main points. Because of the size and scale of this large dining room, I also convinced them that two chandeliers were the only way to really make the space stand out. And although they were not into the typical crystal chandelier these elegant crystal beaded lights were the perfect fit. The chairs were a Craigslist find turned custom with fun geometric fabric and soft gray velvet, to match their existing chairs. During the day the metallic paint finish on the ceiling changes colors to reflect the light. The clients existing speaker system was relocated in order to add more character to the room with sconces and custom art work.

We loved renovating this space for our client who is a Chef and wanted a functional kitchen that is also beautiful. Her previous kitchen had been purchased at a Restaurant Supply Store on the Lower East Side and though totally functional it was just not highlighting the natural beauty of the apartment. We were able to use the existing beams and brick walls as an amazing back-drop to the kitchen. We added decorative lighting to the Kitchen and Dining Areas to define those spaces and changed the track heads throughout the apartment to modernize the lighting. We also built her a new Home Office enclosure to be more in keeping with the loft environment - a little jewel box in the apartment. Overall, a total success!!

Regal in appearance yet relaxed in essence, the Diego dining collection puts a simplified spin on antiquity-based designs, allowing you to enjoy all of the majesty without the formality. Standing on grand pedestal bases, the oval-shaped dining table boasts a charming wire brushed acacia finish and useful butterfly leaf extension, while the upholstered chairs feature a refined camelback silhouette, modest cabriole legs and nailhead accents. Stately and streamlined, the server conceals your silverware and table linens in three drawers and reveals your cups and platters behind four glass doors.

The loft-style kitchen/dining/living room opens up to the front yard and pool area by sliding the steel doors back. Seen above the custom oak dining table and benches at the stair is a long clerestory providing a nice balance of light in the room and a slice of greenery as a backdrop.
