Carpet was ripped up from the floor of the entire space that was ten painted to simulate a subway map. A metal graffiti-adorned disc inserted into the bar increases seating capacity. Three different, but similar chairs/stools provide seating at varying heights and colors. The far wall with 6 corrugated metal sliding doors suggest the siding on a subway car. Hand holds discovered at the New York Transit Authority add to the subway theme. Photography: Norman Sizemore

This kitchen counter and window were custom designed to allow the homeowner to close and lock the double hung window directly onto the counter surface, without the exposed lip of the lower window frame. This was achieved by dropping a standard stock window in the exterior wall below the kitchen counter and custom Fiji Mahogany surfaces, prior to the installation of both surfaces. The quartz counter top and custom outdoor Fiji Mahogany bar were set flush with one another in order for the window to close directly on top of the wood the surface. The custom wood bar surface was installed 8" into the interior of the kitchen, further expanding the seamless design and adding a touch of wood that is mirrored by an identical custom counter within the space. The Custom Fiji Mahogany counters were laminated and finished with epoxy and marine varnish to withstand the outdoor elements. Photo and window specification and design by Carlene Tripp-Crowell. This project is designed as a family retreat for a client that has been visiting the southern Colorado area for decades. The cabin consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms – with guest quarters accessed from exterior deck.
Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). The project is assembled with the structural and weather tight use of shipping containers. The cabin uses one 40’ container and six 20′ containers. The ends will be structurally reinforced and enclosed with additional site built walls and custom fitted high-performance glazing assemblies.

We built the privacy screens with 1 × 6 boards of beautiful western red cedar, and we stained them. The 8-foot cedar privacy screen beside the hot tub is the largest of the three. Because the screens are not solid, but have small gaps between boards, they allow some light into the area. Looking out from within the seating area, the homeowners see a bit of daylight through the privacy screens.

Originally, the exterior of the Napa ranch residence was a standard knocked down stucco finish. We covered over the entire exterior of the house with a natural plaster product that has been made in Italy for centuries, known as Rialto or Vero. This product is a combination of slaked lime mixed with 60% reconstituted crushed marble dust. Quarried from the legendary Carrara marble mines. The finish itself is a vertically combed striated texture embedded into the plaster. While it cures, a transparent group of patinas are applied to the stone-like plaster substance to create a look of an aged villa.
