2011 CAPITAL COTY AWARD HONORABLE MENTION AWARD WINNER Built circa 1980, a young couple with three children originally purchased this home for their growing family. After four years of karate, soccer, piano and other activities, however, the home was becoming too small to meet their needs. Problems started upon entering the front foyer. A 25-foot long dark hallway separated the family room and the kitchen, ending in a tiny powder room stuck in the middle of the layout. The kitchen was especially isolated, a cramped L-shaped design with a box bay breakfast bump out that was literally falling apart. The new design started with the core of the problem—the maze and separation created by the long hallways. First, the 25’ load bearing wall separating the foyer from family room was totally taken out and replaced with a long supporting beam. A French door replaced a small door and window leading to a screen porch . This action allowed lots of light to get into family and foyer. Then, the powder room was removed and the partition wall between the kitchen and family room was taken down. This created a large open concept design and greatly increased the size of the kitchen. The box bay was demolished and replaced with new walls and a large window. The plumbing for main sink and dishwasher got relocated into this box bay allowing a total transformation of the space. Now there are cabinets and counters on all sides. The doorway to the dining room was reconfigured to allow a butler area on its left. While the right side was occupied with new 36” gas range top with a decorative wood hood above it. The refrigerator, microwave/oven and pantries—the space’s tall elements—occupy one wall.. A large Island with a prep sink and beverage center for the kids occupies the center of the layout. Capable of seating up to four, family and friends can now keep the cook company. A large built-in desk area lets the kids do their homework so the parents can supervise while they prepare meals. Light cabinetry with a touch of caramel glazing and exotic granite countertops by our designers contributed to this kitchen’s elegant design. The contrasting distressed island’s darker finish matches the dinette set and other furnishings. New hardwood floors were installed throughout the first floor for a seamless look, while recess, pendant and task lighting make the space even brighter. Importantly, there’s plenty of space for parents and kids to hang out together. The kitchen is truly the heart of their home.

This 1910 West Highlands home was so compartmentalized that you couldn't help to notice you were constantly entering a new room every 8-10 feet. There was also a 500 SF addition put on the back of the home to accommodate a living room, 3/4 bath, laundry room and back foyer - 350 SF of that was for the living room. Needless to say, the house needed to be gutted and replanned. Kitchen+Dining+Laundry-Like most of these early 1900's homes, the kitchen was not the heartbeat of the home like they are today. This kitchen was tucked away in the back and smaller than any other social rooms in the house. We knocked out the walls of the dining room to expand and created an open floor plan suitable for any type of gathering. As a nod to the history of the home, we used butcherblock for all the countertops and shelving which was accented by tones of brass, dusty blues and light-warm greys. This room had no storage before so creating ample storage and a variety of storage types was a critical ask for the client. One of my favorite details is the blue crown that draws from one end of the space to the other, accenting a ceiling that was otherwise forgotten. Primary Bath-This did not exist prior to the remodel and the client wanted a more neutral space with strong visual details. We split the walls in half with a datum line that transitions from penny gap molding to the tile in the shower. To provide some more visual drama, we did a chevron tile arrangement on the floor, gridded the shower enclosure for some deep contrast an array of brass and quartz to elevate the finishes. Powder Bath-This is always a fun place to let your vision get out of the box a bit. All the elements were familiar to the space but modernized and more playful. The floor has a wood look tile in a herringbone arrangement, a navy vanity, gold fixtures that are all servants to the star of the room - the blue and white deco wall tile behind the vanity. Full Bath-This was a quirky little bathroom that you'd always keep the door closed when guests are over. Now we have brought the blue tones into the space and accented it with bronze fixtures and a playful southwestern floor tile. Living Room & Office-This room was too big for its own good and now serves multiple purposes. We condensed the space to provide a living area for the whole family plus other guests and left enough room to explain the space with floor cushions. The office was a bonus to the project as it provided privacy to a room that otherwise had none before.

This amazing bathroom was renovated to have a modern flare. The tile is a shiny gray porcelain that has a rectified edge so it could be butted up tight and the grout lines minimal. My client had previously chosen this tile throughout her home. The Graff Luna freestanding tub filler is mounted on a floating glass mosaic tiled wall. We relocated the tub. Instead of saw cutting into the slab floor we built a platform to hide the plumbing that the tub rests on. The floating vanity cabinets are made of laminate beautifully displaying the quartz countertop with a straight 3" mitered edge. The sides of the countertops drop to the floor on each side of the cabinet, known as a waterfall edge. My client and I designed a cut in wave on the tiled floor leading into the shiny white shower with a floating white quartz bench seat. We built in custom planters made from the quartz countertop material that balance out each side of the floating tub wall in the center of the bathroom. I must say, throughout this design process my client was involved the entire time. She played an integral role in selecting the amazing fixtures seen in this master bathroom remodel. She needed help with the layout so she reached out to us. As you can see in the results we collaborated well together. It was pleasure to work with a client who has such exquisite taste.

The kitchen and sunroom were closed off by walls that hindered the flow of traffic and natural light. The new layout is open, airy and features folding LaCantina doors that allow for seamless access to the patio during warmer months. Radiant heating warms the spaces during cooler months. The large kitchen island matches the impressiveness of the rest of the home, especially as your eye catches the cascading marble of the waterfall edge that extends the countertop down to the floor. This New England home has the essence of a traditional home, yet offers a modern appeal. The home renovation and addition involved moving the kitchen to the addition, leaving the resulting space to become a formal dining and living area. The extension over the garage created an expansive open space on the first floor. The large, cleverly designed space seamlessly integrates the kitchen, a family room, and an eating area. A substantial center island made of soapstone slabs has ample space to accommodate prepping for dinner on one side, and the kids doing their homework on the other. The pull-out drawers at the end contain extra refrigerator and freezer space. Additionally, the glass backsplash tile offers a refreshing luminescence to the area. A custom designed informal dining table fills the space adjacent to the center island. Paint colors in keeping with the overall color scheme were given to the children. Their resulting artwork sits above the family computers. Chalkboard paint covers the wall opposite the kitchen area creating a drawing wall for the kids. Around the corner from this, a reclaimed door from the grandmother's home hangs in the opening to the pantry.   Morning routines shouldn’t involve a traffic jam at the sink. The 2025 Houzz Bathroom Trends Study found that 65 percent of U.S. renovators now choose a double-sink vanity to skip the wait. Designers agree: Titan Builders dubbed 2025 “the year of bigger, storage-packed double vanities,” forecasting dual-basin setups in family, guest, and even powder baths. As KBIS 2025 launches land, prototypes for 2026 layer in spa-grade wood, built-in outlets, and planet-friendly finishes. In this guide, we rank six standout models and show you how to size, install, and enjoy a clutter-free, two-sink future.   Methodology and selection criteria   A well-planned double-sink vanity keeps busy morning routines calm and clutter-free.   Before we crowned any winners, we mapped the entire 2024–2026 double-sink (dual-basin) market. That meant parsing KBIS exhibitor releases, scraping bestseller lists from Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Wayfair, and reviewing designer short lists in trade magazines. The sweep produced 110 candidate vanities, giving us visibility into every style, price tier, and material in play.   We then scored each model against six weighted factors that continue to matter long after installers leave:

5. Value for money – 15 percent.Fair street price for the materials, stone tops, sinks, and soft-close hardware included.  
6. Brand reputation and warranty – 10 percent.Manufacturers with responsive support and at least a one-year parts guarantee.

  Three hard gates kept the field honest: each finalist had to ship in North America by early 2026, include a countertop plus two sinks, and hold a minimum four-star user rating. We also filtered out mass-produced MDF boxes and pay-to-play “editor’s picks” in favor of furniture-grade builds with transparent spec sheets. Double-sink listings on Willowbathandvanity.com spell out hardwood or birch-and-plywood construction, specify when MDF and pressboard are not used, and list dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hardware, and downloadable spec drawings, the kind of detail that made it easier to confirm build quality and layout before shortlisting a model.   After the cuts, six vanities remained, each leading a different use case: luxury showpiece, budget hero, small-bath savior, tech lover’s pick, farmhouse favorite, or bold-color newcomer. A comfortable dual-basin vanity requires at least 60 in. (152 cm) of wall, plus a few extra inches so doors and drawers clear. In narrow baths, depth becomes the deal breaker. Units measuring 21 in. (53 cm) or less keep morning traffic moving.     Use at least 60 inches of wall, a shallow depth in narrow baths and 30 inches of clear floor space in front of your double-sink vanity.   Plumbing reality check. Converting a single to a double adds a second drain and tees off the hot- and cold-water lines. Floor-exit pipes favor a back panel you can notch, while wall-mounted vanities depend on in-wall supplies and solid blocking for support.   Materials equal lifespan. Solid hardwood and furniture-grade plywood shrug off steam, whereas particleboard swells. Looking at this home today, you would never know that the project began as a poorly maintained duplex. Luckily, the homeowners saw past the worn façade and engaged our team to uncover and update the Victorian gem that lay underneath. Taking special care to preserve the historical integrity of the 100-year-old floor plan, we returned the home back to its original glory as a grand, single family home. The project included many renovations, both small and large, including the addition of a a wraparound porch to bring the façade closer to the street, a gable with custom scrollwork to accent the new front door, and a more substantial balustrade. Windows were added to bring in more light and some interior walls were removed to open up the public spaces to accommodate the family’s lifestyle.
