Home built by JMA (Jim Murphy and Associates). Architecture design by Backen Gillam & Kroeger Architects. Interior design by Heidi Toll. Photo credit: Tim Maloney, Technical Imagery Studios. The large-scale remodeling performed to create the Hill House entailed retrofitting the existing foundation to accommodate the engineering requirements for larger windows and lift-and-slide doors, and adding additional foundations for the screened porch. In addition, the main living area’s floor level was lowered in order to improve the view of the distant horizon while standing.

These homeowners are well known to our team as repeat clients and asked us to convert a dated deck overlooking their pool and the lake into an indoor/outdoor living space. A new footer foundation with tile floor was added to withstand the Indiana climate and to create an elegant aesthetic. The existing transom windows were raised and a collapsible glass wall with retractable screens was added to truly bring the outdoor space inside. Overhead heaters and ceiling fans now assist with climate control and a custom TV cabinet was built and installed utilizing motorized retractable hardware to hide the TV when not in use.
As the exterior project was concluding we additionally removed 2 interior walls and french doors to a room to be converted to a game room. We removed a storage space under the stairs leading to the upper floor and installed contemporary stair tread and cable handrail for an updated modern look. The first floor living space is now open and entertainer friendly with uninterrupted flow from inside to outside and is simply stunning.

This Mercer Island patio project completely transformed the backyard into a luxury, year-round outdoor living space designed for entertaining, relaxation, and recreation. We began by demolishing the existing deck and performing extensive excavation to prepare for new foundation walls, retaining walls, drainage, and a sunken swim spa area. A custom structural foundation created the framework for the expanded living space.
The lower level was finished with stamped concrete flooring, insulated walls, new windows, drywall, and premium exterior siding to seamlessly match the home. Mechanical systems included radiant floor heating, a high-efficiency boiler and water heater, plumbing, gas, ventilation, dehumidification, and a complete electrical installation for lighting, outlets, Bromic heaters, and outdoor amenities.
Large NanaWall-style glass doors connect the indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a flexible environment that can be enjoyed throughout every season. The result is a sophisticated backyard retreat featuring a covered entertaining area, climate-controlled recreation space, and seamless indoor-outdoor living—all thoughtfully designed and expertly built by People Come First Construction Group.

Celebrity Chef Sam Zien was tired of being confined to his small barbecue when filming grilling episodes for his new show. So, he came to us with a plan and we made it happen. We provided Sam with an extended L shaped pergola and L shape lounging area to match. In addition, we installed a giant built in barbecue and surrounding counter with plenty of seating for guests on or off camera. Zen vibes are important to Sam, so we were sure to keep that top of mind when finalizing even the smallest of details.
