The front exterior of this home is welcoming with a wide porch, rocking chairs, plus a little cafe table for morning coffee. The mahogany door with side panels is gorgeous and the working wooden shutters in indigo blue give the cream Hardie Plank siding a nice pop of color.

The Bed:
By lowering the bed height, what would be a narrow corridor becomes an ample and spacious path, while providing a convenient bench to put your shoes on. Above storage space is provided for books and linens.

Dramatic plant textures, modern hardscaping and sharp angles enhanced this mid-century modern bungalow. Soft plants were chosen to contrast with the sharp angles of the pathways and hard edges of the MCM home, while providing all-season interest. Horizontal privacy screens wrap the front porch and create intimate garden spaces – some visible only from the street and some visible only from inside the home. The front yard is relatively small in size, but full of colorful texture.

Silver Lake (Los Angeles) drought-tolerant landscape design Project with a flagstone walkway surrounded by stones. Also a white gravel walkway and 3 separate plant and gravel or plant and stone beds..

Situated in Houston, TX, this award winning landscape design was inspired by the nautilus shell. The owners of this property are enthusiastic hosts, and this backyard was designed to blend beauty and practicality for backyard bbq’s and cocktail hours.
A cobblestone path extends out from the nautilus and enriches the space with an organic touch, adding texture and dimension. The structure of the path is intended to encourage exploration and conversation. Purpleheart flows harmoniously throughout the garden like a river, complementing the succulent garden and dwarf mondo grass that forms lush pockets between the flagstones.
The focal point of this design is the custom water feature, comprised of up-cycled musical instruments, that was commissioned by the owners. A custom hammock stand and deck were crafted as a place to lounge and enjoy the Houston sunshine.

A quiet side garden moment featuring natural crushed stone, stepping stones, and lush vine-covered walls—this shaded entryway offers a tranquil transition that softens modern architecture with organic texture and greenery.

Kirsten Gordon of Bloom Magic Weddings interprets anemones with a modern twist. "This is paying homage to my little girl lunches with Mommy at Neiman Marcus, where they always had interesting displays, we called it 'the flower museum.'"
Blush anemones from Kennicott's - Northbrook IL, sourced from a grower in Canada in June 2019. Scabiosa sourced from Northbrook farmers' market Twin Gardens Farm. Glass vase rectangular with high sides.
Sea shell chips from craft store or your travels, in the bottom as "soil" - fill water level half way - 2 inches deep water and 4 inches deep shell chips.
Use chopsticks or long 18" wood floral sticks to assist in positioning the blooms. Works best to make a hole for the flower with sticks, place the flower, then remove sticks carefully, so you do not break, shred or crush the stem. Top dress with craft store pearls (or real if you have - these are loose ones from old jewelry) and add more water to just barely fill.
Need to check daily for more water. Endless variations, fun with hydrangeas too.

This glamorous kitchen design was created by Normandy Designer Ann Stockard. There is a touch of glamour from every vantage point. Iridescent backsplash tile provides sparkle, the shell light fixtures draw the eye up, and the chairs add a sophisticated touch.

Design ideas for a large southwestern drought-tolerant and partial sun front yard gravel landscaping in Phoenix.

The concrete patio with tabby (crushed shells rolled into the concrete finish) gives room for furnishing then the path going to the gazebo and out the side gate transitions to gravel. This allows water flow to the roots of the mature oak tree.

Drainage has to be considered when you are raised above your neighbors or the water. Our clients liked the idea of crushed shells that allows the water to run off the patio and drain into the ground.

Paths of crushed shell wind from a shady deck through shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers towards the water. The deck is a perfect place to watch the birds, pollinators, and wildlife that visit the yard.
