Example of a mid-sized trendy light wood floor and brown floor entry hall design in Philadelphia with beige walls

After 11 years on the Gull Lake chain in Nisswa, this couple decided to sell their cabin. Their current home has the lake view, pine trees and “up north” feel right here in Plymouth. The goal of this remodel was to incorporate some of the Nisswa cabin features into an “urban cabin”.
The first step was, large windows were installed to take in the view of the lake. Some features borrowed from the cabin are the interior wood tongue & groove siding, ledge stone fireplace and scraped hickory flooring. Designer, Carol Kornak, reconfigured the appliance locations and reoriented the kitchen by added an island with eating space. And, a subtle but rewarding change occurred in the back hall. Often a bottleneck, the hallway to the garage was a catch-all for coats, boots, mail, etc. With a little design magic (by removing a wall, reducing pantry depth) and adding a boot bench and hooks for coats, the narrow hallway feels more spacious. To keep them organized there is a mail sorting and charging station hidden behind closed doors.
Admittedly, the couple isn’t roughing it with their Wolf/Sub-Zero appliance package including refrigerator, wine cooler, cooktop, steam oven and warming drawer. The new cabinetry from Crystal Cabinet Works in rustic hickory and painted finish pairs beautifully with the two Cambria countertops and completes the transformation into the “Urban Cabin”. The only thing missing is the 2 ½ hour drive and the dock & boat. Luckily, Lake Minnetonka is only a short drive away.

Inspiration for a mid-sized contemporary single-wall medium tone wood floor and brown floor dedicated laundry room remodel in Denver with raised-panel cabinets, white cabinets, granite countertops, a side-by-side washer/dryer and gray walls

Even a mudroom can be tasteful, as you can see with the featured Aria finish, accented with Contempo fronts and brushed chrome handles.
Mudrooms often become the place where castoff cupboards and cabinets go to die. This is not the case here and, certainly, the finished, clean look of this room just doesn’t happen unless experts work with you to discover your needs, analyze the storage space available and take cost into consideration.
A mudroom is not a mudroom unless it has convenient space for boots and shoes as you notice here. A handy built in bench provides a spot to sit and slip off the footwear and an immediate place, right under the seat, to put it.
Just above the bench, handy storage hooks take care of the things that you want hanging around and easy to get at for their next use. Coats, sweatshirts, jerseys will be waiting when you need them and, more importantly, where you can find them. Open shelves, right next to the hooks, catch whatever you want to pitch there.
Sometimes, the things you want to store for the next use need to be behind closed doors and the cabinetry and drawers provide a place for hats, mittens, gloves. You can even have designated drawers for sports equipment.
One more touch tops off the project – a staging area—right when you step into the mudroom. So convenient, that it almost defies clutter.

Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views.
The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. McCaffery Painting and Decorating provided the finishing touches by giving the remodeled rooms a fresh coat of paint.
