Well-traveled. Relaxed. Timeless. Our well-traveled clients were soon-to-be empty nesters when they approached us for help reimagining their Presidio Heights home. The expansive Spanish-Revival residence originally constructed in 1908 had been substantially renovated 8 year prior, but needed some adaptations to better suit the needs of a family with three college-bound teens. We evolved the space to be a bright, relaxed reflection of the family’s time together, revising the function and layout of the ground-floor rooms and filling them with casual, comfortable furnishings and artifacts collected abroad. One of the key changes we made to the space plan was to eliminate the formal dining room and transform an area off the kitchen into a casual gathering spot for our clients and their children. The expandable table and coffee/wine bar means the room can handle large dinner parties and small study sessions with similar ease. The family room was relocated from a lower level to be more central part of the main floor, encouraging more quality family time, and freeing up space for a spacious home gym. In the living room, lounge-worthy upholstery grounds the space, encouraging a relaxed and effortless West Coast vibe. Exposed wood beams recall the original Spanish-influence, but feel updated and fresh in a light wood stain. Throughout the entry and main floor, found artifacts punctate the softer textures — ceramics from New Mexico, religious sculpture from Asia and a quirky wall-mounted phone that belonged to our client’s grandmother.

This basement home office received a top to bottom upgrade. Previously a dark, uninviting space we had the goal to make it light and bright. We started by removing the existing carpeting and replacing it with luxury vinyl. The client's previously owned the walnut sideboard, and we creatively repurposed it as part of the beautiful builtins. Functional storage on the bottom and the bookshelves host meaningful and curated accessories. We layered the most stunning oriental rug and using a teak and concrete dining table as a desk for ample work surface. A soft and delicate roman shade, brightened up the wall paint, replaced the ceiling light fixture and added commissioned artwork to complete the look.

Master Bedroom: This suburban New Jersey couple wanted the architectural features of this expansive bedroom to truly shine, and we couldn't agree more. We painted the walls a rich color to highlight the vaulted ceilings and brick fireplace, and kept draperies simple to show off of the huge windows and lovely country view. We added a batten board treatment on the back wall to enhance the bed as the focal point and create a farmhouse chic feel. We love the chandelier floating above, reflecting light across the room off of each dangling crystal teardrop. Similar to the dining room, we let texture do the heavy lifting to add visual depth as opposed to color or pattern. Formal living room: We played off symmetry of the windows and fireplace to create the spacious conversational layout, perfect for this chill family that enjoys quiet evenings at home. To achieve a farmhouse chic look, we used a blend of luxe, luminous materials and traditional farmhouse finishes (rustic & reclaimed wood, iron). Fabrics are high performance (kid friendly) and the coffee table is virtually indestructible to little ones!
