For this contemporary kitchen remodel, the homeowner was very clear about what she wanted to achieve. She knew that cabinet refacing was the best option as the current cabinets in the kitchen were in very good condition and she did not wish to change their existing countertop or backsplash. She was just concerned that the cabinets we are adding would look too different from her existing cabinets. Not only did we assure her that they would not be different, but that they would match exactly. She went with a mission style door from Bridgewood in maple and a snow white color. To complete the new look we also added decorative end panels to the cabinets.

It has been said that the most difficult person to work for is yourself. That anecdote certainly held for this project, designed by Myron, co-owner of Hom, Inc. and constructed by Hom, Inc.
Myron designed this home as a case study for a potential spec house project. The home has only one interior bearing wall and very few beams, which leaves a blank canvas for the entire floor plan upstairs and down. Any of the interior walls can be removed or relocated to suit the lifestyle for any new homeowner.
The home also features LP Smartside products on the exterior, conditioned crawl space, standing seam roof accents, reclaimed pine flooring, granite countertops, lighting by Shades of Light, a coffered living room ceiling, exposed beams in the vaulted master bedroom, custom built in cabinets and shelving in the mudroom and living room, walk in closets in each bedroom and much more.
The structure of the home is also designed according to common lumber lengths and spans. By calculating allowable spans and using common dimensional lumber lengths, the home was designed so none of the floor joists or ceiling joists were required to be cut to fit. This feature of the design provides for a much more efficient and cost effective framing process.
Myron currently lives in this house with his wife and children in the old section of Mill Quarter Plantation in Powhatan County.

The existing under-utilized garage will be converted into a modern style home office & future ADU.
This detached residential home office & future accessory dwelling will serve as a focus work space, as well as an independent living space for family or guests to stay overnight with privacy from the main home. The interior has been personalized with an open lofted space and full height shelving for books or other storage. A custom design rolling library ladder will reinforce the library ambiance. The “Loft-brary” also utilizes a floor to ceiling corner glass window system, allowing it to be closely connected to the adjacent Japanese style landscaping.
Primarily serving as a home office studio, the interior is conceived to be open & spacious with lots of shared light, with a lofted upper floor work area taking advantage of views overlooking the adjacent valley. A small kitchen and full bathroom are provided with adequate space for the future bedroom.
Careful attention was given to the solar conditions of the building’s orientation, and an integrated exterior shading system is provided to mitigate the challenging afternoon sun.
A second floor covered exterior deck is provided to allow for year round fresh air work breaks. Propel was hired as architect and landscape designer on the project and we are currently exploring small variations in the plan before proceeding with full construction documentation, engineering, permitting and construction. Target completion is late summer 2022.

THE DOOR NAME ORIGIN - "ALLUMINIO ELIVIA VERTICAL WOOD GRAIN 4HS"
Of all the interior door models in the Elivia collection, this one is perhaps the most unapologetically elegant. Why? Hmm … That which is self-evident can be the most difficult to explain. Is it because it is built using the latest breakthroughs in interior door making technology? Look at the finish: the process of applying it utilizes something called “stretching” by professionals, which is to say that instead of simply slapping the finish on top of the interior door’s surface, our company fuses (for lack of a better word) the materials (on molecular level, no less), the result being that the finished product is more warp-resistant, scratch-resistant, and fade-proof than any interior door put together in the past. This is especially important in climates known for their high humidity levels. Yes, but this has more to do with engineering than aesthetics, right? Okay, so, is this interior door super-elegant because ... Show more!
FINISH: WALNUT
When it comes to interior door finishes, walnut may not be king per se, since “different folk have different views,” as the poet said, and it behooves a proper collection of finishes to be thoroughly democratic; but, but … you could view walnut as an important majority leader descended from royalty – like, say, Louis Napoleon back when he was still an elected official and not, as he eventually came to style himself, Napoleon III.
Strictly speaking, a walnut is the seed of a drupaceous nut, and not a true nut in the botanical sense. It is native to Persia (walnut oil is a staple in Iranian cuisine to this day) and North America, even though approximately one half of the world’s production today is done in China.
That said, one of its more historically curious uses would be the production of ink and dyes. Those are made, or used to be made, at least, from the husk surrounding the nut. The ink could be used to produce drawings – or darken paper to make it look older. It has (as it turned out by the by) excellent archival properties. It was used liberally by many capable and honest artists in the past.
A keen observer of the human condition, a Florentine named Leonardo da Vinci never left his house (which featured some pretty interesting interior doors, but that’s a story for another day) … never left it without a vial – and a sketch book.
As he took leisurely strolls around the streets and piazzas, he observed folks – socializing, arguing, fighting, striking bargains, and gossiping. Let us mention in passing – and this is merely an opinion, mind you – that his sketches seem to be a great deal livelier than his portraits, which for the most part adhere to the epoch’s somewhat mawkish standards and the algebraic, rather than harmonious, approach to depicting humans. The perpetual beguiling mystery of Mona Lisa’s smile is undoubtedly magnificent, but it is the Tuscan polymath’s quick yet amazingly insightful drawings that give us an idea – oftentimes a very comprehensive one – of what everyday life was truly like in Florence in the Sixteenth Century. An old man gloating at someone’s misfortune, two passionate merchants arguing over the price of some highly important delivery, a young woman lamenting the lack of decent men whom a reasonable person could view as husband material, and on and on – it’s all there in Leonardo’s sketches characterized by masterful lines and elegant shading despite the obvious – and necessary – impetuosity of each sketch. So precious and brilliant are those casual masterpieces that, had the scientifically inclined fellow eliminated the need for outdoor sketching by inventing photography, it would have been an historian’s immeasurable gain, certainly, but also an art lover’s great loss.
The idea behind our Walnut Finish is to invoke in the interior door owner a feeling of timeless historicity. Some things change, but others are forever. Stability is an important quality in an interior door, is it not?
Rembrandt van Rijn, who also used walnut ink extensively, was a studio artist, with only a few outdoor paintings in his legacy. Truth be told, he was a better draftsman than Leonardo, at least as far as technique goes (don’t let this get around). Well. He lived a century later and had the benefit of all the development art had undergone since the great Italian master. Just like these interior doors – your interior doors – are a huge improvement on anything that was available only twenty years ago, never mind a hundred years ago.
The “oscillation” of Rembrandt’s line, the delightful shift from the descriptive to the aesthetic stroke, makes his production in that category quite unique. Upon reaching artistic maturity, the stubborn Dutch master began to shun the unbroken contour line, which caused a lot of trouble for his drawings a century later, when dealers and collectors who wished to “update” his sketches to fit the current fashion had the audacity to “complete” Rembrandt’s pen-and-inks. Fortunately, some of the sketches escaped this sorry fate and have been preserved in their original glorious state to this day. Rembrandt’s mastery is yet another thing this interior door finish might remind you of each time you look at your doors.

An extreme makeover turns an unassuming lanai deck into an outdoor oasis. These Bonita Bay homeowners loved the location of their home, but needed it to fit their current lifestyle. Because they love to entertain, they wanted to maximize their outdoor space—one that would accommodate a large family and lots of guests.
Working with Progressive Design Build, Mike Spreckelmeier helped the homeowners formulate a list of ideas about what they wanted to achieve in the renovation; then, guided them through the process of planning their remodel.
The renovation focused on reconfiguring the layout to extend the outdoor kitchen and living area—to include a new outdoor kitchen, dining area, sitting area and fireplace. Finishing details comprised a beautiful wood ceiling, cast stone accents, and porcelain tile. The lanai was also expanded to include a full size bocce ball court, which was fully encased in a beautiful custom colonnade and screen enclosure.
With the extension of the outdoor space came a need to connect the living area to the existing pool and deck. The pool and spa were refinished; and a well thought-out low voltage remote-control relay system was installed for easy control of all of the outdoor and landscape lighting, ceiling fans, and hurricane shutters.
This outdoor kitchen project turned out so well, the Bonita Bay homeowners hired Progressive Design Build to remodel the front of their home as well.
To create much needed space, Progressive Design Build tore down an existing two-car garage and designed and built a brand new 2.5-car garage with a family suite above. The family suite included three bedrooms, two bathrooms, additional air conditioned storage, a beautiful custom made stair system, and a sitting area. Also part of the project scope, we enlarged a separate one-car garage to a two-car garage (totaling 4.5 garages), and build a 4,000 sq. ft. driveway, complete with landscape design and installation.

This project began with a detailed planning process, including existing-condition documentation, 3D design renderings, and layout optimization to ensure every square foot would better support the family's current way of living.

Bullock Access has been licensed to install stairlifts for over 20 years. The special elevator license, R-5, is required in the state of Connecticut to install stair lifts. There are currently only 8 R-5 licenses in the State of CT and Bullock Access holds 2 of those licenses. Without a licensed elevator installer, the safety of your chair lift may be compromised. Your home safety is our primary concern.
Stairlifts are installed on the stair treads, so no structural modifications are needed. Stairlifts are easily uninstalled, returning your walls and staircase to their original condition.
We offer a free site survey and consultation to assess your home and your specific needs. We will then provide a quote that includes both the product and the installation.

Chris Bradbury, Glenwood Road Studios
Coming on to design the plantings for this lovely waterfront property which was rebuilt after significant storm damage, Barbara created a planting plan that specified plantings that would enhance the property and survive the harsh coastal conditions in the future. She also coordinated hiring of the landscape contractors who installed the new landscape after the completion of the masonry work. As part of the rebuilding of the property, significant changes were in order to make the residence livable again. All modifications had to meet current FEMA regulations and address future storm events. The house was rebuilt 6 feet above the street level and incorporated multiple retaining walls. New salt tolerant plantings were added to provide screening for the dining and lounging terrace along the Sound side of the house. Additional plantings were added to provide screening from the nearby homes, create privacy on the dining terrace from the numerous dog walkers along the adjacent streets, provide interest without blocking views to the Sound from nearby neighbors, compliment the lovely stone retaining walls and create seasonal interest with colorful flowering shrubs.

This midcentury modern house was transformed from a municipal garage into a private house in the late 1950’s by renowned modernist architect Paul Rudolph. At project start the house was in pristine condition, virtually untouched since it won a Record Houses award in 1960. We were tasked with bringing the house up to current energy efficiency standards and with reorganizing the house to accommodate the new owners’ more contemporary needs, while also respecting the noteworthy original design.

This was an old home in dreadful condition. The current owners purchased with a view to achieving a major transformation from floor to roof.
The builder used his creative flair to decide how best to open up the space and convert poorly used rooms to useful areas. Walls were removed and the HVAC transfered to the attic. Every door, and window was replaced and a fabuloius kichen installed in the main open plan living area.
The home is now occupied by a young family and the value substantially increased.
