This master bedroom was very large with 3 full-length windows and a set of French doors with a transom window above. Because of its size, a dark brown paint color was used to make the room feel cozy and inviting. Custom bedding was created in a blue, cream, and mushroom palette. Mushroom patterned drapes were hung over the pre-existing cream wood blinds. Silver sunburst mirrors were placed above each wooden nightstand and the nightstands were decorated with blue glass lamps and silver accessories. Abstract art in shades of blue and turquoise was used around the room. A seating area was created in front of the fireplace for reading and watching TV. A brown leather club chair was placed atop a traditional cream and blue rug. A blue and cream upholstered bench at the foot of the bed completed the room.

With a sizeable backyard and a love for entertaining, these clients wanted to build a covered outdoor kitchen/bar and seating area. They had one specific area by the side of their pool, with limited space, to build the outdoor kitchen.
There were immediate concerns about how to incorporate the two steps in the middle of the patio area; and they really wanted a bar that could seat at least eight people (to include an additional seating area with couches and chairs). This couple also wanted to use their outdoor living space year round. The kitchen needed ample storage and had to be easy to maintain. And last, but not least, they wanted it to look beautiful!
This 16 x 26 ft clear span pavilion was a great fit for the area we had to work with. By using wrapped steel columns in the corners in 6-foot piers, carpenter-built trusses, and no ridge beams, we created good space usage underneath the pavilion. The steps were incorporated into the space to make the transition between the kitchen area and seating area, which looked like they were meant to be there. With a little additional flagstone work, we brought the curve of the step to meet the back island, which also created more floor space in the seating area.
Two separate islands were created for the outdoor kitchen/bar area, built with galvanized metal studs to allow for more room inside the islands (for appliances and cabinets). We also used backer board and covered the islands with smooth finish stucco.
The back island housed the BBQ, a 2-burner cooktop and sink, along with four cabinets, one of which was a pantry style cabinet with pull out shelves (air tight, dust proof and spider proof—also very important to the client).
The front island housed the refrigerator, ice maker, and counter top cooler, with another set of pantry style, air tight cabinets. By curving the outside edge of the countertop we maximized the bar area and created seating for eight. In addition, we filled in the curve on the inside of the island with counter top and created two additional seats. In total, there was seating for ten people.
Infrared heaters, ceiling fans and shades were added for climate control, so the outdoor living space could be used year round. A TV for sporting events and SONOS for music, were added for entertaining enjoyment. Track lighting, as well as LED tape lights under the backsplash, provided ideal lighting for after dark usage.
The clients selected honed, Fantasy Brown Satin Quartzite, with a chipped edge detail for their countertop. This beautiful, linear design marble is very easy to maintain. The base of the islands were completed in stucco and painted satin gray to complement their house color. The posts were painted with Monterey Cliffs, which matched the color of the house shutter trim. The pavilion ceiling consisted of 2 x 6-T & G pine and was stained platinum gray.
In the few months since the outdoor living space was built, the clients said they have used it for more than eight parties and can’t wait to use it for the holidays! They also made sure to tell us that the look, feel and maintenance of the area all are perfect!

The lower level is the perfect space to host a party or to watch the game. The bar is set off by dark cabinets, a mirror backsplash, and brass accents. The table serves as the perfect spot for a poker game or a board game.
The Plymouth was designed to fit into the existing architecture vernacular featuring round tapered columns and eyebrow window but with an updated flair in a modern farmhouse finish. This home was designed to fit large groups for entertaining while the size of the spaces can make for intimate family gatherings.
The interior pallet is neutral with splashes of blue and green for a classic feel with a modern twist. Off of the foyer you can access the home office wrapped in a two tone grasscloth and a built in bookshelf wall finished in dark brown. Moving through to the main living space are the open concept kitchen, dining and living rooms where the classic pallet is carried through in neutral gray surfaces with splashes of blue as an accent. The plan was designed for a growing family with 4 bedrooms on the upper level, including the master. The Plymouth features an additional bedroom and full bathroom as well as a living room and full bar for entertaining.

The Library/man cave was furnished with all reproduction furniture, but the vibe is old world. The window seats have custom made hand blocked linen curtains with striped shades. The seat cushions are a heavy diamond pattern chenille. This room is very lived in and nothing is too precious for the owners dogs to sleep on.

The raised panel, French blue cabinets are finished with a dark brown glazing. These are full overlay doors and drawers, constructed with high precision to maintain a 1/8” gap between every side of a door and drawer.

The bedroom boasted elegant dark brown wood flooring, which not only added a touch of sophistication but also provided a comfortable surface for bare feet. Above, ceiling fans gently whirred, their soft breeze bringing an airy feel to the room.
A comfortable double bed took center stage, adorned with cotton bed sheets that were as soft as a cloud, and a wool blanket carefully folded at the foot for those cooler nights. The bed pillows were plump and inviting, ready to provide the utmost comfort.
To entertain himself, Jon had a sleek TV mounted on a white TV stand, where he could enjoy his favorite shows and movies. The TV table was adorned with a few personal items, like a cherished wall-mounted acrylic photo frame displaying fond memories. It added a personal touch to the room, evoking smiles every time he glanced at it.
The bedroom's aesthetics were further enhanced by the contrast of white bed sheets against the dark brown wood flooring. The window blinds allowed just the right amount of natural light to filter in, creating a warm, ambient atmosphere. Above the bed, a wall frame caught the eye, serving as a conversation piece.
It was indeed a room where Jon could escape the demands of the day and embrace the serenity of the evening. The interplay of textures, colors, and personal touches made it a space that reflected Jon's personality, providing a peaceful refuge from the outside world.

The Richard Zlatunich Residence included lots of concrete including a stout foundation, driveways, porches, stairs and landings; but one of the main features of his house was his interior floors. The floors were cast with a Tom Ralston Concrete proprietary mix design and then acid stained with 3-coats of dark brown acid stain. Richard says, “the floors have held up well to my grandchildren and still maintain a dark and luxurious look; actually they look a lot like aged leather.” Zlatunich who is an architect by trade also said, “we have lived in many different homes with tile, wood and stone floors but we have become fans of concrete.”

Conceptually the Clark Street remodel began with an idea of creating a new entry. The existing home foyer was non-existent and cramped with the back of the stair abutting the front door. By defining an exterior point of entry and creating a radius interior stair, the home instantly opens up and becomes more inviting. From there, further connections to the exterior were made through large sliding doors and a redesigned exterior deck. Taking advantage of the cool coastal climate, this connection to the exterior is natural and seamless
