This is the home of an area pediatrician and her retired neurosurgeon husband near Augusta in the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine. The home faces out on one of the largest lakes in the area. The 5,000 square foot house was built on the grounds of a former summer camp and features a soaring two-story great room, kitchen and dining area, a den with a panoramic view of the lake, four bedrooms and a second-floor “tower” office for the pediatrician. More than 8,000 square feet of Englert Series `1300 standing seam metal roof was used for the main house and adjacent garage. The color of the 24 gauge, 20 inch wide standing seam panel is patina green. The primary challenge during installation was the severe 16/12 pitch of the roof and the installation of metal around the dormers on the side of the house facing the lakefront. David Barker of Farmingdale, Maine was the general contractor. C.O. Beck & Sons of Waterville, Maine was the metal roofing company. Installed more than a decade ago, the color and finish of this 1 ½-inch mechanically seamed roof remains as fresh as the day it was installed, despite the harsh, cold winters of the region.

It took 3 months to complete the magnificent porch project. We removed the old decks, added deep new footings, and put a roof on the top deck. Atlanta Curb Appeal used pressure-treated lumber and cedar. This lumber is treated with a preservative at high pressure to preserve the life of the wood for decades.

I used a block motif in which the material is placed at different depth from the wall. This creates a 3D effect and adds more interest and life to the wall.

A young family moving from Brooklyn to their first house spied this classic 1920s colonial and decided to call it their new home. The elderly former owner hadn’t updated the home in decades, and a cramped, dated kitchen begged for a refresh. Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client design a new kitchen layout, while Virginia Picciolo of Marsella Knoetgren designed the enlarged kitchen space by stealing a little room from the adjacent dining room. A palette of warm gray and nearly black cabinets mix with marble countertops and zellige clay tiles to make a welcoming, warm space that is in perfect harmony with the rest of the home. This coastal garden is located 4 hours north of Sydney. This garden has been an ongoing project for Secret Gardens over the last decade. The original brief was for a ‘mini botanic garden’ which proved a challenge on a site with little tree or vegetation cover and limited top soil. The plantings are 95% native, from the establishing rainforest where over 25 varieties of trees have been used to the drier areas where Callistemon, Kangaroo Paw and ornamental grasses have been used in large swathes.The result now is an established garden that will continue to evolve and provide great enjoyment for our clients.
