This was a major home remodeling project completed at a 30 year old residence located on the Seascape Golf Course in the Rio Del Mar neighborhood of Aptos.
The owners had lived in the home for several years and were interested in opening up the closed off kitchen floor plan so that it could be a more integral part of the family room and offer views out to the adjacent golf course. This plan required that a bearing wall be replaced by a structural header beam which we installed flush with the existing ceiling to keep the sight lines nice and clear. New foundation footings were installed to support the header support posts which were concealed in the wall cavities. This resulted in a much more open and expanded kitchen floor plan and included space for a new prep island with sink. The new design also included seating at a raised countertop bar which faced into the kitchen area.
For finish surface selections, we accompanied the owners to several local sources where they selected new granite countertop material. This was installed on custom designed and locally built hardwood cabinetry. New porcelain backsplash tile with feature accents were installed to compliment the countertops. New stainless steel appliances, plumbing fixtures, all new recessed and drop pendant lighting, a kitchen skylight and new tile flooring throughout completed the kitchen remodel.
In addition to the kitchen remodeling, the project also included framing and modifications at a nearby closet to create space for a new guest bathroom on the second floor which featured a travertine vessel sink.
An office space adjacent to the kitchen was altered through the addition of a new set of multi-pane French Doors which allowed the owners to separate that space from the kitchen when necessary.
Our work was completed by the repair and complete refinishing of the second story hardwood floors, installation of new wood baseboards and a full re-painting of the project areas.

This image captures a close-up view of a beautifully designed covered outdoor living space that overlooks a natural pond or small lake surrounded by woodland. The area is furnished with two comfortable outdoor armchairs featuring gray and white patterned upholstery, flanking a dark, slate-top coffee table with a small potted orchid. The floor is covered by a bold, patterned rug (possibly a chevron or zigzag design). The most prominent feature is the clear, rain-covered polycarbonate or glass roof supported by a dark, modern frame. Attached to the roof structure is a large, multi-bladed ceiling fan with an integrated light, providing comfort and illumination. The black railing provides a clean visual boundary to the lush, green and brown natural landscape beyond.

The support post wasn't going anywhere, which proved to be a bit of a challenged. Toledo Butcher Block Co. was up for the task. We were able to fit this beautiful walnut top around the structural post and add new facing to match the island cabinetry.

The Hive
This remodel transforms three small, crowded rooms into an expansive, open kitchen connecting directly onto a new backyard deck. The coziness of a former breakfast nook is re-created with a built-in bench with discreet storage, and a pre-existing island is re-imagined with a new marble surface and complementary marble slab installed above the counters. The new modern kitchen, combines bamboo, white, and glass cabinet materials and integrates an original Wedgewood range stove providing a spacious, open environment.
Outside, the new deck design addresses a previous basement flooding problem and brings together the upper and lower floors with a floating “crow’s nest” balcony, maximizing available outdoor space for use by both couples. To avoid the need for a support post, the balcony is supported by steel beams cantilevered into the house itself. Its custom rail system is galvanized steel and stainless steel cable, leaving as much space open as possible, and a steel awning overhead protects the new door from potential rain damage. The deck itself, as well as its railings and trellis structure, are built in durable ipe, a smooth barefoot-friendly hardwood. Stairs and seating create a smooth transition from the elevated deck down into the yard, where the new owners installed flagstones and setup their own bee hives.

Feinmann restored the exterior of an 1885 Victorian home that had deteriorated over the years in Arlington, Massachusetts. Between fixing and improving the front and back porch, Juliet Balconies, shingles, panels, and intricate design elements, we brought back the home’s original splendor.
We first focused on restoring the front and back porches by repositioning the stairs, reinforcing the brick and wood support posts, installing pressure-treated framing and mahogany decking, and fixing its existing handrails and roof structure.
Feinmann then shifted attention to the house’s design details by replacing all the balusters, posts, spindles, and corbels that give the outside its Victorian feel. We also rebuilt the Juliet Balconies that were located over the dining room and left side of the home and fixed the broken fish-scale shingles, cedar clapboard, and trim.

Once on solid foundation, the remaining vertical post became the main supporting post for the entire house. It would eventually be incorporated into the design of the new kitchen island. The new structural beams were wrapped and painted to give the illusion of the original solid beams.
A new spacious tiered island provides a generous area for the gas cooktop, work stations and an eat-at counter with high bar stools.

Our clients, a couple in their 40’s, approached us to remodel their Kitchen, which felt cramped and closed off from the rest of the Main Floor. They felt especially isolated when entertaining guests. They love to cook and entertain, but the lack of space made both of those things difficult for them to do.
We removed the walls surrounding the Kitchen, opening it up to the rest of the Main Floor. We expanded the Kitchen across the new open area, allowing for a lot more counter space for preparing and serving food. This also gave room for an enormous island, which is perfect for guests to gather around while entertaining.
During the planning stage, it was discovered that beams and posts needed to remain in the space for structural support. Our talented designer, Chantal, was able to incorporate the beams and posts in the design of the Kitchen, so they served a logical purpose, rather than feeling like they were in the way.
Featured in the new Kitchen are classic black and white cabinets, complemented by brass fixtures and accents. Ample task and ambient lighting was installed in order to brighten up this new space and allow for better visibility when cooking in the Kitchen. We also installed luxury vinyl flooring throughout the space, which is not only stylish, but incredibly durable.
From the beginning of the project, our Clients shared with us their concerns about the project staying within the budget, and the accuracy of the timeline for construction. Ultimately, we were able to ease those concerns, as we finished the renovation on time, and within the allotted budget without compromising on the quality or design wishes of our clients.

Custom Culinary Suite: Precision Built-In Integration
A true gourmet kitchen requires a seamless marriage between professional appliances and artisan cabinetry. This view highlights the custom-fitted appliance wall, where a stainless steel double wall oven is perfectly recessed into floor-to-ceiling knotty wood cabinetry. The layout is designed for maximum efficiency without sacrificing the home’s warm, rustic aesthetic.
Technical & Design Highlights:
Flush-Mount Appliance Installation: Expertly framed built-ins provide a sleek, streamlined look that ensures heavy-duty appliances feel like a natural part of the furniture.
Under-Cabinet Task Lighting: Integrated LED lighting beneath the upper cabinets illuminates the expansive granite workspaces, enhancing both functionality and the visual texture of the honeycomb tile backsplash.
Cohesive Material Palette: The dark, honed stone countertops and stainless steel hardware provide a modern, industrial edge that balances the traditional warmth of the wood.
Architectural Sightlines: The placement of the prep sink and primary cooking zone allows for an open view into the living area, anchored by a substantial timber support post that reinforces the home’s structural integrity.

This image highlights the outdoor lounging furniture—a large, comfortable armchair with a black and white patterned cushion and a matching throw pillow. It provides a close perspective of the clear, rain-dotted roof and its supporting structure, which attaches near the house's red brick chimney section.

We completed a full rebuild and expansion of this backyard deck, turning an older wood structure into a larger, more modern, and more durable outdoor living space. As part of the project, we reinforced the existing framing, added new support posts, and tied the old and new sections together into one solid structural system.

A less than impressive entry and a deteriorating brick floor coupled with a truncated porch roof detracted from the overall curb appeal of this 1989 residence. A design-build project by The Buckingham Group transformed the home’s front elevation. Cedar posts and beams surrounding the garage doors as well as supporting posts for the porch were eliminated. The roof and the entry floor of the porch were removed and selected sections of the original brick veneer were removed from the walls and salvaged. A new porch roof, with a graceful arch, was framed. Hand tooled, dry stacked limestone replaced the structural wood elements, while the salvaged brick veneer was reinstalled. A stamped and stained concrete floor that now matches the sidewalk was poured, replacing the crumbling brick entry floor. The front entrance now features two dry stack stone pillars that are crowned with a beautiful stone arch. The porch roof is accented with a copper barrel top architectural focal point. The home now sports a gracious front entry with new pendant lighting that not only welcomes, but invites guests to the interior.

The rectangular fire pit with glass beads cradled in stone between the pergola’s support posts has a “built-in” look. The fire pit and the coping at the bottom of the pergola’s posts are the same stone used throughout.

This deck has TimberTech Legacy decking and Intex Hampton 2 line rail. The railing features beautiful custom decorative panels.
Fortress low voltage LED sconce lights are placed on the rail posts. We also installed flush lights in all the stair risers. For a more finished look, all the support posts were wrapped with PVC trim.
The patio was completely taken up and the substrate re-leveled. The pavers were then re-laid and finished with polymeric sand joints.
