The Magpies are delighted! This stunning project is nestled in the South Australian country township of Willunga, whose name is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “The locality of green trees”. During the course of the renovations a family of 11 magpies swooped in and now call this abundantly treed property ‘Home’. The clever design frames the natural views to the north, uninhibited by the alfresco structure. Passive solar design methodology is employed by utilising optimal eaves overhang allowing warming winter sun to penetrate into the interior of the building, whilst excluding the harsh rays during summer. A blending of the old and new help to keep a sense of history whilst combining a modern, natural feel with a semi industrial working space. Bringing the outdoors in by maximising the views of the abundant vegetation and birdlife is a feature of this addition. Well known local identities, and the owners of this spectacular building, are now enjoying their lifestyle passion for preparing food and entertaining in this enlarged, purpose built space…. As are their fine feathered friends.

When full-time Massachusetts residents contemplate building a second home in Telluride, Colorado the question immediately arises; does it make most sense to hire a regionally based Rocky Mountain architect or a sea level architect conveniently located for all of the rigorous collaboration required for successful bespoke home design. Determined to prove the latter true, Siemasko + Verbridge accompanied the potential client as they scoured the undulating Telluride landscape in search of the perfect house site. The selected site’s harmonious balance of untouched meadow rising up to meet the edge of an aspen grove and the opposing 180 degree view of Wilson’s Range spoke to everyone. A plateau just beyond a fork in the meadow provided a natural flatland, requiring little excavation and yet the right amount of upland slope to capture the views. The intrinsic character of the site was only enriched by an elk trail and snake-rail fence. Establishing the expanse of Wilson’s range would be best served by rejecting the notion of selected views, the central sweeping curve of the roof inverts a small saddle in the range with which it is perfectly aligned. The soaring wave of custom windows and the open floor plan make the relatively modest house feel sizable despite its footprint of just under 2,000 square feet. Officially a two bedroom home, the bunk room and loft allow the home to comfortably sleep ten, encouraging large gatherings of family and friends. The home is completely off the grid in response to the unique and fragile qualities of the landscape. Great care was taken to respect the regions vernacular through the use of mostly native materials and a palette derived from the terrain found at 9,820 feet above sea level. This particular client wanted a clean, neutral, sleek, transitional look to fit their professional lifestyles. The strategy was to have a neutral base, but buy several different groupings of decor and pillows to easily change the look of the room with out buying new furnishings. This pre-tinted lime plaster is inspired by the splendid and prestigious Marmorino, originally derived from powders of marble and lime. Ressource has developed this unique range of Roman plasters and are highly committed to offer exclusive original colors. This palette combines the traditional spectrum of mineral colors, along with contemporary shades inspiration. The real innovation of this coating lies in the simplicity of implementation : first, a special primer (Rough Primer) applied with a roller, following by one coat of Mineral undercoat and lastly one coat of Roman plaster to obtain this beautiful finish. This splendid decorative plaster, with a soft, slightly glossy finish, will fit into many different types of interiors. It can be protected with a water-based wax that will delicately accentuate its glazed appearance without excessive shine.

relationship with the client. After many successful remodel project the owners were confident that we could provide the level of craftsmanship that their home deserved. Some of the details of the project included a climate controlled wine room derived from an existing media room and closet. The master suite and bath included complete redesign of tub and steam shower. Ceilings and lighting were modified in order to redefine living spaces including disappearing tv behind art work. Cabinetry and finishes were also included to finish out a very open design with magnificent views of downtown Houston from the 27th floor.

These clients are Disney FANATICS and desired a whimsical play space for their two young children. We wanted to give them all the whimsy they desired with a subtle Disney undertone. A hidden theme in each element to the design is derived from different Disney movies. For example, seven drawers under the window seat for the “Seven Dwarfs”, scalloped removable wallpaper behind the TV to represent “The Little Mermaid” fish scales, whimsical umbrellas on the custom storage unit are straight replicas of the “Mary Poppins” prop, a bold hair on hide to call to “The Lion King”, a small sofa that converts to a twin bed perfect for “Sleeping Beauty”. The hidden messages throughout the space lead to a unique design and story that the clients were enthralled to play along with!

Naaya geometry series is inspired by geometric shapes and forms. Most of the forms derived starts with a simple sketch of geometric shapes, placing them at various heights and connecting the edges. Once an interesting shape is in sight, same is taken into clay and then the formal process of clay starts. Dimension: 7.75" x 6.25" x 5.5"

Nafir By Axo Nafir pendants, ceiling lamps and recessed lights derive from Karim Rashid's brilliant imagination, a collection that recalls a row of trumpets lined like bunting stems. This creation touches upon the sculptural theme: available stand-alone or in groups of three and illuminated by LED technology, they are just enchanting even with the lights off. The designer sketched them while thinking of light as a complement to music, the idea took shape and began its transformation into an object that resembles a trumpet. Nafir is made of white injection moulded plastic and is available in three different colors: chrome exterior/white interior, white exterior/gold interior, white exterior/white interior, bronze exterior/white interior (new) and pink gold exterior/white interior (new).

The Control/Shift House is perched on the high side of the site which takes advantage of the view to the southeast. A gradual descending path navigates the change in terrain from the street to the entry of the house. A series of low retaining walls/planter beds gather and release the earth upon the descent resulting in a fairly flat level for the house to sit on the top one third of the site. The entry axis is aligned with the celebrated stair volume and then re-centers on the actual entry axis once you approach the forecourt of the house. The initial desire was for an “H” scheme house with common entertaining spaces bridging the gap between the more private spaces. After an investigation considering the site, program, and view, a key move was made: unfold the east wing of the “H” scheme to open all rooms to the southeast view resulting in a “T” scheme. The new derivation allows for both a swim pool which is on axis with the entry and main gathering space and a lap pool which occurs on the cross axis extending along the lengthy edge of the master suite, providing direct access for morning exercise and a view of the water throughout the day. The Control/Shift House was derived from a clever way of following the “rules.” Strict HOA guidelines required very specific exterior massing restrictions which limits the lengths of unbroken elevations and promotes varying sizes of masses. The solution most often used in this neighborhood is one of addition - an aggregation of masses and program randomly attached to the inner core of the house which often results in a parasitic plan. The approach taken with the Control/Shift House was to push and pull program/massing to delineate and define the layout of the house. Massing is intentional and reiterated by the careful selection of materiality that tracks through the house. Voids and relief in the plan are a natural result of this method and allow for light and air to circulate throughout every space of the house, even into the most inner core. A linen cabinet wall was also incorporated for useful storage of additional toiletries. New porcelain tile to gives the look of marble at a fraction of the cost. We included lighting in every section of the bathroom including above the bathtub, above the toilet, and the unique pendants above the double marble vanity.
