Our design parameters were to create balance, drama, and playfulness with some strategically placed container gardens and landscape amendments peppered throughout. The use of unique and hardy specimen cacti and succulent in combination with blooming perennials and lavenders were forefront in designing the unique statements. Green, dramatic contrast, coupled with softness and balance were used to design this clean, sophisticated look in Arcadia.

Home design - mid-sized traditional home design idea in San Francisco

Nestled at the end of a long flag lot driveway in Amagansett, NY, a young couple purchased the property with intentions to construct a second home for their growing family. A home that would not only be comfortable for the immediate family but also serve and grow on busy summer weekends to accommodate extended family, friends, children and guests. The tight lot along with the sizable program culminated in the building envelope being pushed to every limit, restriction and regulation one could imagine. The resulting architecture possesses a traditional Hamptons cottage exterior juxtaposed with modern elements that help break up the single mass. Centered on the entry façade is a large double story window that shrouds the floating switchback staircase on the interior. A bluestone patio wraps three sides of the home, which, in the rear, leads to a small in ground pool with a frameless glass railing. In the interior, custom white washed white oak floors run throughout the home as well as on the floating central staircase. For a more modern style of living, the open living, kitchen and dining area serve as one large entertaining space. In an area surrounded by sprawling Mcmansions, this tightly knit home functions more similar to that of a large NYC apartment by serving the perfect balance between maximized form with the right amount of function given the strict parameters. Large glass sliders open the living and dining rooms to the backyard patio and pool creating harmony between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Shaker style cabinets in the kitchen pair with a more contemporary staircase softened by the warmer wood tones of the vertical slats that surround it.

The historic Casa Blanca development in Paradise Valley is home to this bustling Moroccan-inspired home adjacent to an inspiring community cacti garden. The garden spaces utilize mountain views while, simultaneously, the expanded sculptural walls provide privacy and security from the development’s amenities. Strong, clean, earthy elements are key to the overall design parameters, creating a contemporary and balanced garden. A simple palette of unusual succulents and jasmine vines grow up from the raw rusted earth. The layered steel fireplace (also Moroccan-inspired) anchors the space from many vantage points, acting as a welcoming beacon from the interior.

There are some pool projects where the customer comes to us with a budget rather than a vision. Such was the case with this stunning backyard outdoor entertainment paradise. With this particular project, we worked with the home's developer to create a backyard oasis that was every bit as stunning as the home itself.
Working with a pre-determined budget, we had a few design parameters - there had to be an outdoor kitchen/entertainment area that could be used throughout most of the year. A spa was also on the list and they wanted the overall design of the pool area to be in perfect sync with the exterior of the home.
With that as a base, we set to work, creating a pool area that became a natural extension of the home, along with a covered outdoor kitchen/entertainment area that would be a welcome respite when temperatures cool off as well as an ideal place for family and friends to cook, dine, relax and unwind.
The stamped concrete pool deck has ample room for patio furniture where there are plenty of large umbrellas to provide cover from the sun. Two waterfalls, one that spills from the spa into the pool and the other that features a sheer descent coming from the lush planter, add a touch of elegance to the overall look.
The free form pool features skyline blue tile and a gorgeous, Tropical Breeze PebbleTec plaster finish. A retaining wall was built around the outside perimeter of the pool area where the lush landscaping frames out this backyard oasis.
The final result is an outdoor area that will provide year-round entertainment on a grand scale. And all delivered within the original budget parameters.

During a recent remodel, these homeowners in North Oaks left their master bath for last. And when it was time to update, they listened to the recommendation of their trusted contractor. “Our contractor said that LiLu really gets what their clients are looking for,” Angi said. “I totally agree.” During the planning stages LiLu determined the footprint didn’t need to change. With those parameters in place, LiLu was free to significantly alter the space plan overall. After gutting everything, they moved walls and rerouted plumbing to make the flow more efficient. By relocating the vanities, and then shifting and enclosing the shower in glass, LiLu dramatically improved the vista from the bedroom. Aesthetically, LiLu combined dark wood with gray lacquered cabinets, they painted the room in lighter gray tones to brighten up the space, and they created a sense of verticality. Above all, the homeowners wanted her master bathroom to feel luxurious. So LiLu included several up-scale details and custom amenities in their design—a towel warmer, a built-in hamper, and a built-in hairdryer all make her dream a reality. Now whether it’s the beginning of a new day or the end of a long one, this space makes family life feel a bit more relaxing.
