The owners' desire for "classically traditional" with a lighter, brighter, and airier flavor than the neighborhood's popular, heavier Tuscan fare found expression in exterior materials and detailing that is simple in nature. The Nate Berkus-designed interiors complete the material and color palette with warm restraint. The home, designed for a family with an extreme focus on outdoor living and sports, includes a basement equipped with a home gym, batting cage, and steam room. Outdoor facilities include a sport court and putting green. Additional features of the home include a motor court with dual garages, separate guest quarters, and a walk-in cooler. The clients, receptive to the architect's exploration of multi-use spaces reflecting modern life, gained a laundry room which functions more as a home command station for a highly engaged mother than a place for chores. The multi-use room includes a washer and dryer, wrapping station, project area, winter storage, and her office. Cabinetry along the parameter walls of the kitchen are painted Benjamin Moore Britannia Blue and the island, with custom light fixture above, is Benjamin Moore Timber Wolf. Five cabinet doors in the layout have mullion and glass inserts and lighting high lights the bead board cabinet backs. SUBZERO and Wolf appliances and a pop-up mixer shelf are a cooks delight. Michelangelo Quartzite tops off the island, while all other tops are Massa Quartz. The laundry room, with two built-in dog kennels, is painted Benjamin Moore Caliente provides a cheery atmosphere for house hold chores.

A simple palette of unusual succulents and jasmine vines grow up from the raw rusted earth. The layered steel fireplace (also Moroccan-inspired) anchors the space from many vantage points, acting as a welcoming beacon from the interior.

Coming from the Bay area, our clients spend a lot of time in Tahoe and therefore purchased a vacation home within close proximity to Heavenly Mountain. Their intention was to utilize the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, single-family home as a vacation rental but also as a part-time, second home for themselves. Being a vacation rental, budget was a top priority. We worked within our clients’ parameters to create a mountain modern space with the ability to sleep 10, while maintaining durability, functionality and beauty. We’re all thrilled with the result. In this historic space, what had once been a dressing room is now the Bedroom. The dresser was replaced with this Williamsburg reproduction Raleigh chest of drawers. An antique oriental rug rests on the refinished hardwood floor. Existing custom window treatments were not changed as a part of the parameters of the project. A new framed print on canvas of the Surrender at Saratoga includes the figure of Daniel Morgan, a Virginian whose unit was instrumental in the victory. The portrait of Ambassador Anderson shows the original resident of this space. Ambassador Anderson owned the house now used as the home of the Revolutionary War Institute, and the headquarters of the historic Society of the Cincinnati. Your guests need more than a space for eating; they need a place to relax and be pampered. That's what’s inspiring us here with the turquoise wall and buttery brown banquette seating.

During a recent remodel, these homeowners in North Oaks left their master bath for last. And when it was time to update, they listened to the recommendation of their trusted contractor. “Our contractor said that LiLu really gets what their clients are looking for,” Angi said. “I totally agree.” During the planning stages LiLu determined the footprint didn’t need to change. With those parameters in place, LiLu was free to significantly alter the space plan overall. After gutting everything, they moved walls and rerouted plumbing to make the flow more efficient. By relocating the vanities, and then shifting and enclosing the shower in glass, LiLu dramatically improved the vista from the bedroom. Aesthetically, LiLu combined dark wood with gray lacquered cabinets, they painted the room in lighter gray tones to brighten up the space, and they created a sense of verticality. Above all, the homeowners wanted her master bathroom to feel luxurious. So LiLu included several up-scale details and custom amenities in their design—a towel warmer, a built-in hamper, and a built-in hairdryer all make her dream a reality.
