This is a Roberto Burle Marx- inspired design, a drought tolerant landscape that imitates the vibrant colors and patterns of the tropics. We kept the monstera and bird of paradise plants, and with the colorful trim on the house, it all works together in this eclectic mashup.

Roman shades are one of our more popular and highly customizable window shades. They are available in a wide variety of colors and fabrics, with diverse light-filtering options for greater flexibility when it comes to controlling light.

This landscape design showcases a harmonious integration of natural rock formations and a variety of plant life to create a serene and inviting garden space. The focal point is a flowing water feature that meanders through the arrangement, with carefully placed rocks and boulders that mimic a natural stream. Above, the vibrant sky peeks through lush, towering greenery, adding a dynamic background. The garden beds are densely planted with a mix of textures and colors, including purple flowering ground cover, striking yucca plants with their sword-like leaves, and cascading greenery of a weeping conifer. The pathways are neatly outlined with lighter stones, contrasting with the darker mulch and rich green lawn. This inviting outdoor area seems perfect for relaxation and contemplation, enhanced by the soothing sounds of the water feature and the secluded, private feel offered by the tall plants and trees. The overall effect is one of a meticulously designed landscape that combines elements of a rock garden, water garden, and an ornamental garden with a diverse palette of plants.

A beautiful collection of low water plant combinations that include Stachy's "Big Ears", Purple Tapien Verbena, Verbena rigida, Bulbine Frutescens 'Hallmark' Orange Form and a purple Penstemon.

We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. The award-winning, 6,500 square-foot terrace of the Midtown Manhattan Sky Garden takes advantage of panoramic skyline views while providing an intimate garden backdrop to the mid-century-modern building’s newly-renovated interior workspace. Richly textured and seasonally diverse plantings include a dense blanket of drought-tolerant prairie grasses, wildflower perennials, and spring flowering bulbs, punctuated by flowering Crab Apple trees. At twilight, the garden evolves into a subtle stage set of textured plantings, rustling softly against the glow of a frosted glass parapet rail—a soothing space where workers can escape the conference room or the electrifying noise of the dense urban environment.
