A wider view of the dining area showing the large sliding doors - concrete overlay from the fireplace space to the left, and leading into the warm oak cabinetry in the kitchen. You can see the interplay of the glass railings leading upward and downward - the stunning and dramatic staircase really the melody that the home circles around.

Edge-less Pool and Pool Deck. Both also designed by the architect. The pool’s sharp angular corner and semi-curved triangular shape belies the pools functionality for use as a lap pool with its diagonal swim lane. Submerged on each end are straight vertical shelves extending vertically downward to the pool bottom that allows for kick-turns during laps. The edge-less design incorporates a continuous integral slot-drain, cut-stone paver edges and cut-stone copings extending down into the pool. The pavers extend onto the pool deck’s surrounding 2-tone cut-stone patterned surface. The interior surfaces of the pool are clad with a cool-toned multicolored blue/green quartz plaster surface. Several large and small patterns of pinhole lights are inlaid into the pool's bottom to shine upward and arranged to mimic various star constellations when viewed at night. A raised eight-person hot tub features an semi-circular edge-less shelf for water to overflow down into the pool.

Gorgeous antique five-light chandelier, dating from the early 1900's, and found in a home in Roanoke, VA. The Tudor chandelier begins with an oversized loop finial with leafy flourishes. Below, the underside of ring-style chandelier body is ornamented with foliates, roping and stylized fleur-de-lis; five leafy downward-facing bobeches suspend from its perimeter. The fixture finishes in a dangling foliate finial. Polychrome accents in red and black highlight the fixture throughout. This penthouse awning installation near New York City shows 2,000+ square feet of dining area that is now completely protected by a waterproof retractable enclosure.
The desire was for a penthouse awning that provided protection from the sun, but was also heavy-duty enough to handle inclement weather. The owner wanted to preserve the Al-fresco outdoor dining feel of the rooftop patio, but wanted to be able to hit a button for on-demand protection when needed. This restaurant can now book additional functions, generating more revenue from the penthouse than before the awning was installed - guaranteeing their patrons a protected space.
The Gennius is a retractable pergola awning SPECIFICALLY designed to handle inclement weather. Rainwater is routed downward with the slope of the fabric, and captured within a gutter integrated within the awning's supporting framework. Rainwater then escapes the gutter through the support posts and is diverted away from the entertaining area.

With sleek, contemporary styling, the living room boasts a curved wall with a textural copper-and-silver finish and five very tall, narrow windows. The room itself was all the inspiration I needed to envision big, bold and bright decorative hardware and trim, but the modern furniture and the eye-catching metallic-copper coffee table provided additional inspiration.
Because the clients don’t like floor lamps and because they entertain frequently, I suggested back-lit crowns to reflect light off the ceiling. They loved the idea, but then came the challenge.
Incorporating LED lighting in the design sounded easy enough, but a certified electrician had to be consulted to ensure safety and security. After spending considerable time learning about installing lights within the crowns, I set about designing how the lights needed to be placed to have the most dramatic effect.
Two rows of lights were installed. The upper row shines upward to create a curved light on the ceiling, which enhances the height of the windows, creates a rhythm suggestive of the curve of the accent wall, and mimics the pebble-like shape of the table. The second row of lights shine downward, creating beams of light on the drapery sheer for dramatic effect and helping illuminate the room. Dimmer switches were installed so the clients can adjust brightness.
A decorative trim of diamond crystals was attached to the center of the crowns to create visual interest and add a touch of luxury – a detail that was repeated on the tiebacks. The sheer draperies hanging under the crowns are very close in color to the walls, reducing the contrast between the wall and the draperies, which helps give the room a more open and expansive look and feel.
The clients are delighted with the end result and said that when visitors see the room for the first time, they never fail to comment on the amazing lights in the window treatments.

Nested along the iconic Rideau River in Manotick, this luxury modern custom home will be constructed by Les Maisons Bruyère Homes. The exterior is enhanced with maintenance-free EIFS cladding, aluminum wood-look plank siding, and stone in colours that reflect the surrounding natural environment. Each exterior finish is further highlighted with unique roof heights, providing visual interest from every angle. The 3′ overhand with downward soffit lighting adds warmth to the modern structure.
From the covered front entry, there is a view of the river through the great room and its floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors. During the winter months, sliding glass doors will help to keep the cold air out of the rest of the home, and a generous walk-in closet accommodates storage for the family and large gatherings. The main-level great room, dining room, and kitchen will be light-filled, open spaces with 10′ ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows towards the river. Cozy evenings will be spent around the 3-sided fireplace. Perfect for entertaining, the 10′ x 5′ kitchen island will welcome guests to share food and great conversation. The pantry allows for an additional refrigerator or stand-up freezer and plenty of storage. On warm summer days, the outdoor kitchen with bar seating is steps away on the extensive deck. The outdoor stone fireplace will extend its use into the cooler months. Protected by a retractable ShadeFX canopy, there’s always the choice of shade, sun, or protection from the rain. Cantilevered retractable ShadeFX canopies extend from each section of the back wall, providing protection from the sun inside and out.
The home is just shy of 4,800 sq ft and boasts a main-floor guest suite with private entry through the mudroom. On the second level, you’ll find the spacious primary bedroom suite and 3 additional bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms. The laundry room is conveniently located adjacent to the bedrooms. The primary bedroom ensuite has a very practical separate toilet room, spacious shower, double sinks with a makeup table between, and a luxurious standalone tub. A second guest bedroom suite (or optional self-contained apartment with private entrance) is located on the walk-out basement level.
Not a typical basement, the 9’ ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows will bring abundant light into the entertainment area and family room. In addition to the guest bedroom suite, there is a gym and a home theatre tucked in behind the stairs. A 2-piece bath, mechanical room, and storage complete the interior. Outside, the large covered patio leads into the pool area. A two-piece bath/changeroom, optional sauna, and wet bar complete this spa-like outdoor space.
Out front, the attached garage can accommodate four+ vehicles and a sizable workshop or storage. The basement and main level mudroom are easily accessible directly from the garage. A second detached garage is an option.
