2013 PROFESSIONAL REMODELER, SILVER AWARD WINNER, RESIDENTIAL KITCHEN Located in the new Trump International Golf Course Community, this contemporary home has a great location overlooking the golf course. The current layout, however, prevented the owners from taking advantage of its breathtaking view. Goals of the remodel were to open up the first floor layout by taking down the partition walls between the kitchen and dining room. The homeowner also wanted to update the home’s galley kitchen, replacing its dark cabinets and counters. Once the walls were removed, major obstacles because they were load bearing, the new design could evolve. The ten foot ceilings provided the opportunity to stack up decorative glass cabinetry and highly crafted crown moldings on top, while maintaining a considerable amount of cabinetry right below it. The custom made brush stroke finished cabinetry with bells and whistles such as corbels and chimney style wood hood surrounded with leaded glass cabinetry. Pillars were all part of detailed craftsmanship of this project. A large 5’ x 14’ island is the focal point of the design. The island consists of main sink with a pedal style control disposal, dishwasher, microwave, second bar sink, beverage center refrigerator and still has room to sit five to six people. Its darker cabinetry provides a beautiful contrast to the opaque white cabinets on the surrounding walls. White marble counters and backsplash brighten up the kitchen and two crystal chandeliers create a timeless yet elegant feel. High-end Thermador appliances covered in custom inset panels are part of this featured project to implement the classic look the homeowner wanted for this kitchen. Finally, a featured cabinet arch with leaded glass separates the kitchen from the dining room and displays the homeowner’s fine china. Finally, large windows and French doors offer beautiful golf course views from multiple vantage points.

A&E Construction. This traditional bathroom remodel features stunning marble tile in complimentary subway and herringbone patterns. The freestanding clawfoot tub and outstanding view of the exterior forest areas are the focal points of this peaceful space.

2013 CHRYSALIS AWARD SOUTH REGION WINNER, RESIDENTIAL EXTERIOR This 1970’s split-level single-family home in an upscale Arlington neighborhood had been neglected for years. With his surrounding neighbors all doing major exterior and interior remodeling, however, the owner decided it was time to renovate his property as well. After several consultation meetings with the design team at Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes, he settled on an exterior layout to create an Art & Craft design for the home. It all got started by excavating the front and left side of the house and attaching a wrap-around stone porch. Key design attributes include a black metal roof, large tapered columns, blue and grey random style flag stone, beaded stain ceiling paneling and an octagonal seating area on the left side of this porch. The front porch has a wide stairway and another set of stairs leads to the back yard. All exterior walls of homes were modified with new headers to allow much larger custom-made windows, new front doors garage doors, and French side and back doors. A custom-designed mahogany front door with leaded glass provides more light and offers a wider entrance into the home’s living area. Design challenges included removing the entire face of the home and then adding new insulation, Tyvek and Hardiplank siding. The use of high-efficiency low-e windows makes the home air tight. The Arts & Crafts design touches include the front gable over the front porch, the prairie-style grill pattern on the windows and doors, the use of tapered columns sitting over stone columns and the leaded glass front door. Decorative exterior lighting provides the finishing touches to this look.

This 1960's home needed a little love to bring it into the new century while retaining the traditional charm of the house and entertaining the maximalist taste of the homeowners. Mixing bold colors and fun patterns were not only welcome but a requirement, so this home got a fun makeover in almost every room! New cabinets are from KitchenCraft (MasterBrand) in their Lexington doors style, White Cap paint on Maple. Counters are quartz from Cambria - Ironsbridge color. A Blanco Performa sin in stainless steel sits on the island with Newport Brass Gavin faucet and plumbing fixtures in satin bronze. The bar sink is from Copper Sinks Direct in a hammered bronze finish. Kitchen backsplash is from Renaissance Tile: Cosmopolitan field tile in China White, 5-1/8" x 5-1/8" squares in a horizontal brick lay. Bar backsplash is from Marble Systems: Chelsea Brick in Boho Bronze, 2-5/8" x 8-3/8" also in a horizontal brick pattern. Flooring is a stained hardwood oak that is seen throughout a majority of the house. The main feature of the kitchen is the Dacor 48" Heritage Dual Fuel Range taking advantage of their Color Match program. We settled on Sherwin Williams #6746 - Julip. It sits below a custom hood manufactured by a local supplier. It is made from 6" wide Resawn White Oak planks with an oil finish. It covers a Vent-A-Hood liner insert hood. Other appliances include a Dacor Heritage 24" Microwave Drawer, 24" Dishwasher, Scotsman 15" Ice Maker, and Liebherr tall Wine Cooler and 24" Undercounter Refrigerator.

This chair stealing the limelight in a sitting room or bringing interest to a study just as gracefully. Taking influence from an iconic time in design history, finished in a classic tub shape, with flared arms and charcoal velvet upholstery. Rug Dimensions: 9'6"X12'6"; Material/Finish: Construction: Machine-Made Content: 53% Polyester 47% Viscose Backing: None Pile Height: 2/5". A luxuriously vintage statement with a distressed floral medallion motif in warm tones of cream, gold, and taupe with cooler accents of metallic silver and gray. Soft and lustrous, this chameleon-like design emulates the timeless style of a Turkish hand-knotted rug, but in an accessible polyester and viscose power-loomed quality. Chandelier DIMENSIONS: 34h x 32dia; NUMBER OF LIGHTS: 8; SHADES: Black Metal Included; MATERIAL: Wrought Iron, FINISH: Brass. Made of artfully wrought iron spikes in a brass finish fitted with black metal shades. The interiors of the shades add to the warmth of the illumination that wafts from this imaginative fixture. Sideboard Dimensions: 78" W x 18" D x 24" H; Material/Finish: Materials: Yuka's Veneer, Iron, Ash Veneer Colors: Natural Yuka's Resin, Bronzed Iron. Slender legs of bronzed iron support an ash-finished frame as resin fills yukas' natural graining. Iron hardware adds a hint of modern edge. Six open-front doors offer ample storage. Tall Cabinet Dimensions: 39.5" W x 16.5" D x 92.5" H; Material/Finish: Materials: Iron, Glass Colors: Black, Clear Glass. Display barware, books, or other treasures in an arch-topped cabinet. Solid iron sheeting is finished in soft, matte black with contrasting brass hardware. Coffee Table Dimensions: 38.00"W x 38.00"D x 16.00"H; Materials: Iron, Resin; Antique brass-finished iron curves like a crescent to welcome a nesting option for its smaller-scaled companion table. A resin faux shagreen tabletop in grey lends rich texture to clean, modern lines. A larger table measures 38" in diameter and 16" in height. The smaller table measures 30" in diameter and 14" in height. Statue Judy Bust Statue. 12.5"Wx7.5" Dx20.25"H; Sleek black resin finished modern matte black, except the eyes up, which we made shiny. Vase Medium 6.5" x 6.5" x 11; 100% CeramicMedium Clearwater Vase in White Vase Dimensions: H45xØ20cmMaterial: wire, beads; Traditional African beading design in black and white on a wireframe. Handcrafted in South Africa. Table Lamp Dimensions: 11 x 11 x 22; Material/Finish: Metal, Shade Material Fabric base in marble. This stylish arc lamp features a polished metallic gold iron stem that curves at the very top, bowing down into a soft black faux silk shade. The interior of the slightly angled shade has a metallic gold reflective finish that diffuses your light into a warm glow. The base of the lamp is a black marble circle. Planter’s simplified bowl shape and rustic hand-made cast-stone texture, a patina finish. The planter is oval-shaped. Decorative Fabric Boxes crafted from fabric, cardboard, and paper. Exterior finished in black and white; interior is finished in black. Set of 3, one of each size.

This magnificent project includes: a new front portico; a single car garage addition with entry to a combination mudroom/laundry with storage; a rear addition extending the family room and open concept kitchen as well as adding a guest bedroom; a second storey master suite over the garage beside an inviting, naturally lit reading area; and a renovated bathroom. The covered front portico with sloped ceiling welcomes visitors to this striking home whose overall design increases functionality, takes advantage of exterior views, integrates indoor/outdoor living and has exceeded customer expectations. The extended open concept family room / kitchen with eating area & pantry has ample glazing. The formal dining room with a built-in serving area, features French pocket doors. A guest bedroom was included in the addition for visiting family members. Existing hardwood floors were refinished to match the new oak hardwood installed in the main floor addition and master suite. The large master suite with double doors & integrated window seat is complete with a “to die for” organized walk in closet and spectacular 3 pc. ensuite. A large round window compliments an open reading area at the top of the stairs and allows afternoon natural light to wash down the main staircase. The bathroom renovations included 2 sinks, a new tub, toilet and large transom window allowing the morning sun to fill the space with natural light.
