We updated this 1907 two-story family home for re-sale. We added modern design elements and amenities while retaining the home’s original charm in the layout and key details. The aim was to optimize the value of the property for a prospective buyer, within a reasonable budget.
New French doors from kitchen and a rear bedroom open out to a new bi-level deck that allows good sight lines, functional outdoor living space, and easy access to a garden full of mature fruit trees. French doors from an upstairs bedroom open out to a private high deck overlooking the garden. The garage has been converted to a family room that opens to the garden.
The bathrooms and kitchen were remodeled the kitchen with simple, light, classic materials and contemporary lighting fixtures. New windows and skylights flood the spaces with light. Stained wood windows and doors at the kitchen pick up on the original stained wood of the other living spaces.
New redwood picture molding was created for the living room where traces in the plaster suggested that picture molding has originally been. A sweet corner window seat at the living room was restored. At a downstairs bedroom we created a new plate rail and other redwood trim matching the original at the dining room. The original dining room hutch and woodwork were restored and a new mantel built for the fireplace.
We built deep shelves into space carved out of the attic next to upstairs bedrooms and added other built-ins for character and usefulness. Storage was created in nooks throughout the house. A small room off the kitchen was set up for efficient laundry and pantry space.
We provided the future owner of the house with plans showing design possibilities for expanding the house and creating a master suite with upstairs roof dormers and a small addition downstairs. The proposed design would optimize the house for current use while respecting the original integrity of the house.

Find the right local pro for your project

This homeowner lived on a very prominent golf course and wanted to feel like he was on the putting green of the 9th hole while standing at his family room window. The existing layout of the home had the garage enjoying that view with the outdated dining room, family room and kitchen further back on the lot. We completely demoed the garage and a section of the home, allowing us to design and build with that view in mind. The completed project has the family room at the back of the home with a gorgeous view of the golf course from two large curved bay windows. A new fireplace with custom cabinetry and shelf niches and coffered high ceilings makes this room a treasure. The new kitchen boasts of white painted cabinetry, an island with wood top and a 6 burner Wolf cooktop with a custom hood, white tile with multiple trim details and a pot filler faucet. A Butler’s Pantry was added for entertaining complete with beautiful white painted cabinetry with glass upper cabinets, marble countertops and a prep sink and faucet. We converted an unused dining room into a custom, high-end home office with beautiful site- built mahogany bookcases to showcase the homeowners book collections. To complete this renovation, we added a “friends” entry and a mudroom for improved access and functionality. The transformation is not only efficient but aesthetically pleasing to the eye and exceeded the homeowner’s expectations to enjoy their view of the 9th hole.

A white farmhouse kitchen remodel featuring a ZLINE 597 stainless steel wall range hood with crown molding has an elegant design and built-to-last quality. ZLINE's stainless steel wall range hood is perfect for a kitchen remodel or upgrade and looks great with white-cream cabinets, Quartz countertops, and red brick backsplash. Modern features including crown molding, a 900 CFM high performance 4-speed industry leading motor, duct and ductless venting, built-in lighting and dishwasher-safe stainless steel baffle filters for easy clean-up, will provide all the power you need to quietly and efficiently ventilate your kitchen while cooking. The 597 wall mounted range hood is available in sizes 30", 36", 42", 48", 54" and 60".

When this homeowner decided to move back to Seattle from Las Vegas to support her daughter’s culinary studies, she chose to make a beloved 1940s bungalow her permanent home. To fit her lifestyle, the house needed a full transformation that made the most of its modest footprint while preserving its charm.
The remodel reimagined every inch of the space. The front porch was converted into a comfortable primary suite, providing a private retreat within the home. In the kitchen, smart storage solutions and a thoughtful layout created an efficient, welcoming space perfect for a family passionate about food.
A particularly creative update was the redesign of a small studio-style bedroom at the back of the house. Once accessible only by ladder, the space now features a stylish spiral staircase, offering both safety and architectural interest while maintaining its cozy character. The result is a whole-home remodel that feels functional, personal, and true to its historic roots.

Converted existing patio into a living space to increase square footage of home & create a studio space for homeowner. A 12’ X 62’ Pergola built out of very large cedar timbers for durability & design purpose to cool down back part of the house from west setting sun & a space to relax with her husband & enjoy watching the dogs. Walkway under the Pergola are thin brick pavers. All windows & doors installed on patio are energy efficient & the patio floor is a faux finish stamped concrete overlayed on top of old concrete to give a better look to the finish for the living space.

This full basement remodel included creating an office space, a communal space with a kitchenette, and a receiving area that could be convertable into an extra bedroom with a seemlessly integrated closet.

Transforming this laundry room from dead space is one of our specialties! We converted an awkward, ugly, misused basement corner into a sleek and efficient laundry room. With careful planning and custom design, we installed a stacked washer and dryer to maximize space, added stylish storage solutions for laundry essentials, and integrated thoughtful touches like warm lighting and a rustic floor finish which complement the adjacent bathroom. This basement laundry room not only serves as a practical solution but also enhances the overall value and usability of the home.

This full-home remodel in the Broadmoor neighborhood of Seattle aimed towards functionality and a cohesive living environment tailored to modern needs. Central to the project was redesigning the kitchen with a new layout, updated finishes, fixtures, and appliances. We reconfigured the hallway to expand the primary bedroom and revamped the bathroom with a new layout and all-new finishes. An underutilized courtyard was converted to interior living space, seamlessly integrating it into the home’s footprint. The floors and windows were replaced throughout, along with other energy efficient exterior upgrades.

Small but efficient island seats two and includes three storage drawers, wine rack and two power outlets. Can you name the actors portrayed on the wall in background?

Back when our clients were downsizing from their suburban family home to their light filled, inner-city apartment they asked us to work with them to “create a new, apartment-scaled home that is personal, warm and inviting.” We think they nailed it. There is not a corner they have not considered and made the most of nor an opportunity missed to give a space an upgrade for maximum joy and efficiency. One of our favourite things is the desk joinery. One bedroom has been converted to a media room and office and our clients had the great idea to turn the wardrobe into a WFH space. The joinery design is super functional and (we think) super cute!

VPC completely remodeled this charming log cabin in Sugar Grove from top to bottom. Added features to the home include new stone fireplaces in the great room and the bonus room with reclaimed barn wood mantles, along with added framing and supports under both to help carry the loads from the new fireplaces, new tile shower and claw foot tub in the master bathroom, and new vanities with granite counter tops in every bathroom.
Two closets were removed and a full bath was converted into a powder room to make space for a new bar area with custom cabinetry, granite counter tops, and a wine refrigerator. The loft bathroom was completely demoed and reconfigured. The vinyl tile in the laundry room was replaced with real tile in the laundry room and hardwood floors in the sun room. New custom cabinetry, granite counter tops, and high-efficiency appliances were added to the kitchen. All the hardwood floors throughout the home were sanded and stained.

S+H Construction and Architect Will Ruhl collaborated to transform and modernize this 3,500-square-foot contemporary home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Doug Hanna of S+H Construction recognized that this building, originally an abandoned municipal garage that was later converted to residential space in the late 1950’s by renowned architect Paul Rudolph, was not a typical project. With evidence of water damage and poor insulation, the goal was to make the house energy-efficient and weather tight home with the help of Zero Energy Design. S+H installed translucent polycarbonate window panels to bring light and warmth to the back room of the house, which was formerly unlivable for several months of the year due to the lack of installation. The improved room now offers heating, cooling, and high density foam insulation, and is now home to the new owners’ extensive book collection. The S+H team also installed triple-glazed, super insulated, sliding glass doors—which required modification of the slab deck and steel trusses—to offer outdoor access for the new residents.
