We designed and built an all-season sunroom with folding glass panoramic doors that open up the space completely to a new TimberTech composite deck that can also be accessed from the kitchen, creating the perfect entertaining space! When these panoramic doors are closed, their thermal efficiency keeps the interior minimally affected by outdoor temperatures and produces a cozy escape during cold Oregon winters when the new wood-burning fireplace is turned on. The tile backsplash pattern behind the fireplace emulates a sensation of nature with the varying blue and green tones used in the room and complements the wood tongue and groove ceiling paneling, creating a relaxing environment. We used different types of indoor lighting that can be turned on/off depending on the desired use of the sunroom. Built originally in the late 1800's, and lived in by only two families, this gem of a historic mansion was in need of a lot of work. The goal of this project was to add central air, renovate and expand 3-1/2 baths, add one bath, add a 2nd level laundry, replace old wall paper, and to combine a kitchen, breakfast room, laundry and butler's pantry into one large farmhouse style kitchen. We also added radiator covers, replaced kitchen flooring, added a mudroom, and added wainscot to the main stair. Finally, we upgraded all lighting and wiring throughout the house. We are about to start phase 2 of the project to restore the windows, new landscaping, painting and restoring the trim and siding for the house and restoring the roofing and flashing. We are also looking to add a side porch and deck. The challenge of this project was to do all of this work, but to keep the soul and character of the house in tact. The owners loved the house as it was, so it was very important to keep and restore as much as possible. In the rest of the house, the owners decided to just add tongue oil to the floors. Fireplaces were kept in tact. Original pine trim and millwork were restored and we added a window seat on the 3rd floor. The further challenge was to do this work, including planning and all interior design in 4-1/2 months. By signing up Hyo Lee and his company Millennium Homes as our contractor from the beginning, we met the demanding schedule. We looked back to the time period and selected finishes and details that seemed appropriate. The client built a large idea book on Houzz which helped throughout the project to make sure we could design to their style. Bathrooms carry a theme of natural marble and stones. The kitchen features an antique oak herringbone floor from Mountain Lumber. Cabinets are inset, with a small bead to emulate antiques in the owner's collection and to maintain the simple details of the existing Butler's Pantry cabinets which we kept and restored. Wallpaper selections were made by the client with help from Mona Berman Interiors.

He commissioned architect Matthew Stratton, interior designer Jennifer Corredor, builder Denis Savoie and landscape architect Craig Reynolds to create his dream home. The plan: to set the stage for his proposal to then girlfriend, Judy, and embark on a new phase of his life. Embracing a modern take on the Key West style famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses and laid-back attitude, Corredor designed a simple, elegant and unpretentious interior scheme for this 3,900-square-foot home. A tropical sensation flows freely with natural materials and a color palette that reflect the island’s backdrop of sandy beaches, brilliant skies and cresting ocean waves. Polished white-glass tile flooring downstairs contrasts with African teak wood flooring upstairs, while cherry wood paneling and custom wall treatments create texture. To the breezy blue and white theme throughout, the designer added a zest of coral, inspired by the Royal Poinciana tree that frames the arbor by the pool. “The whole idea with ocean hues and wood tones is to emulate the surroundings,” Corredor says. “I think these elements add character to a space, as well as warmth.” The great room reflects Corredor’s light airy approach. Details take this kitchen from good to great. Mortised chrome edge pulls leave the anigre drawer and door faces unblemished. These are contrasted with integral pulls carved into mahogany cabinetry. Clunky European hinges are replaced by elegant, smooth-working offset pivot hinges with invisible magnet catches embedded in the doors. Outside cabinet corners are mitered so there is no evidence of a door or drawer edge from any angle. A small reveal at wall bases, achieved using matte black plastic laminate, eliminates the need for applied baseboard, and indeed the interior is entirely “trimless.” Cathedral ceilings and seamless cabinetry complement this home’s river view. The low ceilings in this ’70s contemporary were a nagging issue for the 6-foot-8 homeowner. Plus, drab interiors failed to do justice to the home’s Connecticut River view. By raising ceilings and removing non-load-bearing partitions, architect Christopher Arelt was able to create a cathedral-within-a-cathedral structure in the kitchen, dining and living area.
