Coronado, CA The Alameda Residence is situated on a relatively large, yet unusually shaped lot for the beachside community of Coronado, California. The orientation of the “L” shaped main home and linear shaped guest house and covered patio create a large, open courtyard central to the plan. The majority of the spaces in the home are designed to engage the courtyard, lending a sense of openness and light to the home. The aesthetics take inspiration from the simple, clean lines of a traditional “A-frame” barn, intermixed with sleek, minimal detailing that gives the home a contemporary flair. The interior and exterior materials and colors reflect the bright, vibrant hues and textures of the seaside locale.

The kitchen, entry, and living room is all contained at the front of the house facing the ocean. The custom painted (Benjamin Moore White Dove) shaker cabinets were built and finished in our shop. A bench seat with storage was integrated into the island. Pine was used to cover the entire cathedral ceiling. A White Oak wide plank engineered floor was installed throughout the home. Designed by Marc Jean-Michel of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Bethesda, MD in collaboration with Wisdom Construction, this Washington, DC kitchen remodel features Merillat Masterpiece kitchen cabinets in the Ganon door style in a Dove White finish with Calacatta Laza engineered quartz countertops from Q by MSI. The kitchen features unique storage in a smaller galley kitchen space by utilizing the toe kick area of the cabinets to create pull out drawer storage. This is an organic Lime Wash done with a true lime wash product as opposed to a brick mortar or concrete that is often seen on new houses. This product can be applied as a solid coating making the surface completely white, or can be applied and "washed off" in many artistic ways, as seen here. Our clients were a young married couple who enjoyed bringing people together through social gatherings, and moments of quiet pause. The interior layout was redefined to create a spacious and open plan that suited the couple's lifestyle needs. Warm and bright material and color finishes were also curated to create a harmonious flow of spaces for a sense of easy living. Select pieces of furniture were also customised to optimise the use of space and enhance the overarching design direction.
