A large circular driveway and serene rock garden welcome visitors to this elegant estate. Classic columns, Shingle and stone distinguish the front exterior, which leads inside through a light-filled entryway. Rear exterior highlights include a natural-style pool, another rock garden and a beautiful, tree-filled lot. Interior spaces are equally beautiful. The large formal living room boasts coved ceiling, abundant windows overlooking the woods beyond, leaded-glass doors and dramatic Old World crown moldings. Not far away, the casual and comfortable family room entices with coffered ceilings and an unusual wood fireplace. Looking for privacy and a place to curl up with a good book? This lower level renovation started out as a simple project. The family wanted to install a home theater in their unfinished basement. Initially it was only going to be a space with a home theater where they could occasionally watch a movie or a sporting event. Once the theater design was complete, the clients embraced the elegance of the custom cherry wood cabinetry, columns and wainscoting. In addition, by having all of the audio video components hidden out of sight, the room would have a serene, peaceful ambience. The theater design enticed the clients to finish off the rest of the basement. A bar area was designed with an antique bar, and a lounge area with a fireplace was also constructed. As the layout evolved and the placement of the bar was resolved a perfect area for a wine cellar became evident. Once the clients realized how comfortable the space would be, they understood that they would probably be spending more time in the basement than they originally anticipated. This thought led them to want two large flat panel TVs on the walls in the bar area so they could watch several events at the same time. They love the theater. The 110” screen and quality audio video system is a constant source of entertainment for the entire family. They use the entire basement frequently as a gathering point for family and friends.

We placed the other two on either side of the steps leading to the deck. They not only provide a strong light source to provide safety, but they also act to entice the visitor to climb the steps and explore another area of the garden landscape.

With a newly remodeled home located in Dallas’ exclusive Preston Hollow neighborhood, Splendor Builders approached Cantoni designer Lauren Dickson to transform the vacant property into an inviting home that would entice the city’s most discerning buyers. With only one week to complete the project, Lauren worked quickly to create an interior design plan that was sure to exceed all expectations. Enhancing the home’s distinctive architectural features, Lauren used a mix of modern and mid-century furnishings with contrasting textures and materials to furnish the space. This kitchen is the perfect example of how a space can be contemporary and warm and inviting. We utilized a two-tone cabinetry palette; the perimeter cabinets are a painted white MDF shaker door style and the island cabinetry is an Ethiopia stained raised panel Cherry wood. We brought in a warm-grey toned subway tile backsplash that extends up to the ceiling, and used the same tile to create a herringbone design feature above the range. We used accent tiles to add an extra detail throughout. This two-level counter is perfect for entertaining guests and spacious enough to seat at least four bar stools. Stainless appliances bring a more contemporary feel to the kitchen. Overall, the marriage of various neutral tones and textures creates a cohesive and enticing kitchen.

This basement renovation offered an enticing opportunity for this family with growing kids to maximize their living space and create functional areas that cater to evolving needs. Once used for storage, the kids now have a dedicated place to play and the parents have a lovely place to hang. In keeping with the integrity of the Brookline brownstone, we played up the gorgeous brick wall, and carried that theme into the newly created laundry room flooring. The laundry was moved from the first floor down to the basement, and matches the decor of the new bathroom to the right. There was dead space under the stairs, which created an opportunity to hide and keep toys organized. With thoughtful planning and design, this basement will grow alongside the family, providing versatile and adaptable spaces that accommodate changing lifestyles and preferences.
