The architecture of the Karoo Wilderness Center is a result of a thorough process of investigation into the origins and character of the Karoo landscape and the flora and fauna that result from its particular qualities. The tectonic events that produced the specific topography of the site, trajectories of water runoff, wind movement, soil composition, and effects of plant and animal species on the landscape have converged to create the conditions of the site chosen for the Center. Each of these factors have in turn been subject to the impact of human inhabitation and vernacular building practices, amplified in recent generations to a harmful degree by shortsighted agricultural strategies and their associated effects of overgrazing, water over-manipulation and erosion.
Fundamental to the architectural response is the premise that the human species is an inherent part of the conditions that comprise and affect the landscape. The significance of the Center, enhanced and informed by the activities that occur within and as an extension of it, lies in the co-dependence of the Center and the ecosystem as inherently bound entities. The architecture of the Center is intended to make evident the natural processes of the Karoo and establish a new precedent for building within and through an ecosystem defined by dynamic flux.

We took our clients home to the next level. A touch of glamour from every vantage point and a custom crafted the hood center stage finished in stainless and accented with matte brass. Sitting snuggly next to the custom hood are wall cabinets in a two-toned finish with X mullions. The inserts in the wall cabinets where chosen to be an antique mirror to add a big of glam but also to keep the mess hidden behind the door. It’s not just a place to cook dinner, it’s an interior design, it’s decor that deserves to be featured in a magazine. Metallic accents will give your kitchen a glamorous touch no matter its style or design: silver, bronze, rose or yellow gold work especially great in neutral black and white interiors.
Patterned, metallic, or textured, interesting backsplash tile bring this kitchen to the next level by adding character to the kitchen design. Across from the kitchen is the open family room area that lacked seating and flow.
Our design team felt like it was important to combine this kitchen and family room into a great room and not single entities. Every room should connect to those around it in some way. If they don't, you end up with a very choppy looking and disjointed home. From light redecorating to full remodels, we're here to help transform your home. Great Design. Unique Preferences. It’s our passion to connect your rooms and make them flow together.

When the homeowners purchased their home, they knew they wanted to renovate their kitchen. We have done their previous kitchen, which helped aid in the remodeling process. To create more openness, we removed a half wall along with all soffits in the kitchen area. We kept things light and airy with off white shaker styled cabinets paired with a contrasting countertop and a lighter/beigy toned backsplash. The homeowners opted to keep their hardwood flooring. Due to the wall removal our carpenters were able to feather in pieces of it while making it appear as if had always been there.

This single space is visually divided by the french doors at the back of the room. The area behind the settee was not being used as effectively as it could be (before) and seemed like a separate entity instead of an extension of the living room. A new game table and chairs is both beautiful and functional.

The clients gave me three key words – “cocoon”, “outer space”, and “Royal” to apply to the concept. This assortment grew together to form one living entity.

Underutilized space? A keen eye for design and a healthy passion (or obsession) for wine? It’s not every day that you see a luxury wine cellar in a luxe high-rise apartment building. Space is typically limited, and there is not room for expansion. Our client decided to transform space under his sweeping staircase to a clean and modern wine cellar. The Glenview Haus team devised a plan to provide our client with the full package! A temperature-controlled, modern wine cellar, complete with an insulated modern oak door.
Flexibility is one of our many strong suits as designers. We can adapt to any space and/or limitation. When our customer approached us with the idea of creating a modern wine cellar in this space, we jumped on the opportunity to measure and confirm this area could withhold his extensive wine collection. Once we determined our state-of-the-art cooling system would be compatible with this amount of square footage, we happily moved forward and provided all design details and guided this project from start to finish. From the inside out, we were able to provide our expertise on how to accomplish a timeless entity, with a modern twist.
This custom oak wine cellar was built to achieve a luxe design element in a chic downtown loft-style apartment. Adorned with a modern clear insulated glass door, guests are prompted to view the immaculate collection that our customer has to offer. Our goal in this project was to bring a sense cohesiveness to this new design element in our client’s home. We wanted to make sure that this space looked as though it has always been there! The first glimpse at the wine cellar is complemented with a custom oak wood modern door. This is the first impression that you are greeted by, and it does not disappoint. As you walk through the modern door, you enter a matching oak wood masterpiece that boasts several different design elements. Our custom wine racks display bottles in different directions, showing off each element of a wine bottle. Top-down, tilted back, or layered on top of each other in a diagonal cut out, regardless of how your wine is displayed, it is guaranteed to ‘wow’ in our custom oak cellar!

Bathroom accessories include Odin 18" towel bar, tissue holder, and single robe hook. Lighting is provided by a Winston 46 1/4" wide polished chrome LED bath bar.
The design incorporates surface-mount medicine cabinets. For tiling, Carrara Gioa matte finish 12x24 tiles are used for both walls and floors, with Laticrete 1644 Bright White unsanded grout. View to the side terrace from the street. The trees provide plenty of privacy. The window above the wood siding is in a kids' play-loft, giving them a lookout to see the world below. Material choices separate the volumes into distinct, yet related entities.

Ground Floor Redesign, Entry, Basement Stairwell, Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms.
Architecturally, we removed the original closed in front vestibule and stairwell walls. We also removed a redundant side door (another is located at back) and flipped the basement stairs to be accessed at the front entrance instead of the kitchen. This redesign allowed the entire space to be opened-up and provide well-needed space for the new kitchen. A full glass railing quietly protects the below closet and pantry area, while offering the feeling of spaciousness and controls traffic from the front door directly into the kitchen. Brilliant idea!
A feature to the Living Room is a new built-out wall exhibiting a recessed flat-screen television and linear fireplace with a circulation vent system.
The kitchen island hosts the built-in oven, a microwave drawer, and induction cooktop. The built-in fridge sits adjacent to a pullout pantry which is complemented by a corner lemans corner system. A spice niche and the key niche in the entry add some fun storage. All appliances are built-in and only 24" wide, making counter space a privilege. The island front boasts an illuminated display niche to complement a stone waterfall facing the entry. Island toe kicks were tucked back 9” to create the illusion of a “floating” island.
The ceiling is thoughtfully designed with painted bulkheads to contribute to defining the three primary spaces as one entity for comfortable interaction. Anchoring the island is a suspended walnut canopy housing a recessed hood fan and an array of recessed lighting.
Hardwood flooring was re-pieced and refinished to be level with the new entry "pebble tiles" which promote a sense of nature and non-slip care.
A phenomenal transformation indeed, these home-owners absolutely love the results of their renovations.
