This busy family has two active teenagers and multiple pets. They essentially had out grown their kitchen and dining area. To give the family much needed space, walls were removed and windows were added to dramatically open up the area and let in more natural light. A large kitchen island was installed and topped with a beautiful Quartz Coastal Grey countertop. Contrasting dark grey cabinets were used to compliment the white, shaker style cabinets located throughout the rest of the kitchen.
This family loves to bake, so we installed a lower counter for kneading or rolling out dough—a perfect height for getting the right amount of leverage. For a more custom look, all of the appliances were covered in wood panels to match the surrounding cabinets. Tile flooring was replaced with engineered hardwood throughout the whole first floor for a more streamlined look.

For this bright, transitional kitchen, we installed minimalist off-white roller shades that perfectly complement the clean white cabinetry and natural wood accents. The shades provide essential light control during the day, filtering harsh sunlight while preserving the airy feel of the space. When lowered, they offer complete privacy. This solution shows how effectively roller shades can manage light and views in an active kitchen environment without overwhelming the design. We used a durable, easy-to-clean fabric, perfect for kitchen settings. A simple, motorized lift system was integrated for seamless operation. This project highlights a key philosophy: window treatments should be as functional as they are beautiful. Shop our curated collection of roller shades and discover how to elevate your space, from window treatments to unique light fixtures and decorative hardware. Click the link in our profile for more!

Mudrooms are practical entryway spaces that serve as a buffer between the outdoors and the main living areas of a home. Typically located near the front or back door, mudrooms are designed to keep the mess of the outside world at bay.
These spaces often feature built-in storage for coats, shoes, and accessories, helping to maintain a tidy and organized home. Durable flooring materials, such as tile or easy-to-clean surfaces, are common in mudrooms to withstand dirt and moisture.
Additionally, mudrooms may include benches or cubbies for convenient seating and storage of bags or backpacks. With hooks for hanging outerwear and perhaps a small sink for quick cleanups, mudrooms efficiently balance functionality with the demands of an active household, providing an essential transitional space in the home.

This very busy family of five needed a convenient place to drop coats, shoes and bookbags near the active side entrance of their home. Creating a mudroom space was an essential part of a larger renovation project we were hired to design which included a kitchen, family room, butler’s pantry, home office, laundry room, and powder room. These additional spaces, including the new mudroom, did not exist previously and were created from the home’s existing square footage.
The location of the mudroom provides convenient access from the entry door and creates a roomy hallway that allows an easy transition between the family room and laundry room. This space also is used to access the back staircase leading to the second floor addition which includes a bedroom, full bath, and a second office.
The color pallet features peaceful shades of blue-greys and neutrals accented with textural storage baskets. On one side of the hallway floor-to-ceiling cabinetry provides an abundance of vital closed storage, while the other side features a traditional mudroom design with coat hooks, open cubbies, shoe storage and a long bench. The cubbies above and below the bench were specifically designed to accommodate baskets to make storage accessible and tidy. The stained wood bench seat adds warmth and contrast to the blue-grey paint. The desk area at the end closest to the door provides a charging station for mobile devices and serves as a handy landing spot for mail and keys. The open area under the desktop is perfect for the dog bowls.

Essential client goals were a sustainable low-maintenance house, primarily single floor living, orientation to views, natural light to interiors, establishment of individual privacy, creation of a formal outdoor space for gardening, incorporation of a full workshop for cars, generous indoor and outdoor social space for guests and parties.
The Holly Hill house is comprised of three wings joined by bridges: An architect's wing with a master garden to the east, an engineer’s wing with automobile workshop and a central activity, kitchen, living, dining wing.
