This kitchen was designed utilizing the length and height of the space. While maintaining a truly functional working area. The emphases on a family kitchen as well as an entertainment area were achieved by keeping the functional components of the kitchen on one side while being able to socialize at an arms-length on the other. No one was to be made to feel left-out, with the island that eventual becomes a projected table to the workstation. Stainless steel was chosen to emphasize the gorgeousness and caliber of the appliances. Custom walnut cabinets accompanied by large format porcelain tile, and quartz counter-tops tie the space together. Hardware placement again reinforces clean lines of the kitchen.

What to do when the client wants a King Size Bed and there is no room for it!!! Here in this waterfront bedroom there was barely room for the smallest of nightstands if we used a king sized bed. The solution was to incorporate a column on the wall with the night stand and make it a key feature of the design. A spacious seaside house was created for a family to vacation in and eventually retire to. A blend of transitional details, nautical accents, and textures were chosen to create this calming and serene coastal escape.

Location: Hingham, MA, USA This newly constructed home in Hingham, MA was designed to openly embrace the seashore landscape surrounding it. The front entrance has a relaxed elegance with a classic plant theme of boxwood, hydrangea and grasses. The back opens to beautiful views of the harbor, with a terraced patio running the length of the house. The infinity pool blends seamlessly with the water landscape and splashes over the wall into the weir below. Planting beds break up the expanse of paving and soften the outdoor living spaces. The sculpture, made by a personal friend of the family, creates a stunning focal point with the open sky and sea behind. One side of the property was densely planted with large Spruce, Juniper and Birch on top of a 7' berm to provide instant privacy. Hokonechloa grass weaves its way around Annabelle Hydrangeas and Flower Carpet Roses. The other side had an existing stone stairway which was enhanced with a grove of Birch, hydrangea and Hakone grass. The Limelight Tree Hydrangeas and Boxwood offer a fresh welcome, while the Miscanthus grasses add a casual touch. The Stone wall and patio create a resting spot between rounds of tennis. The granite steps in the lawn allow for a comfortable transition up a steeper slope.

The client wanted a better flow throughout their landscape, as well as introduce straight lines to a space to modernize the irregular shaped pool. Their upper deck was where they did a majority of their entertaining so ensuring this space was large enough for both dining and lounge was the starting point of the design. Introducing privacy from the many on looking neighbours, without completely blocking it off from the rest of their own yard was important. Laser cut privacy screens added this filtered privacy. A round hot tub was added to the back corner of the property, which otherwise seemed like wasted space. Highlighted by the privacy panels in the same pattern used on the deck to create some consistency. Trees were both maintained and added where needs along the property to add greenery and privacy. The entire space now feels open within the backyard, but private from neighbours.

Heavy lattice panels provide an attractive screen for neighbors on both sides. Clematis armandii and honeysuckle vines will eventually cover the lattice. Photo: Urban Habitats Landscape Studio
