DTSH Interiors brought in furniture for the eat in kitchen, dining, and living room as well as added Belgian Linen window treatments.
The exterior of the home received a major facelift and transformation, including new light fixtures, updated roof and facia, updated wood beams, wood door, wood ceiling and stone added to the entrance and more. This took the home from a dated look to an updated and fresh "modern farmhouse" aesthetic.
The kitchen layout remained intact, while appliances, fixtures, hardware, countertops and backsplashes were upgraded . All three bathrooms in the house were also renovated, original hardwood floors were refinished and carpet and tile flooring throughout replaced. Additionally, the dated built-in brick fireplace on the ground floor game room was redesigned. The new fireplace design would now directly tie in with the modern farmhouse style of the exterior, complete with the addition of a large wooden mantle.
DTSH Interiors formulated a plan for six rooms; the living room, dining room, master bedroom, two children's bedrooms and ground floor game room, with the inclusion of the complete fireplace re-design.
The interior also received major upgrades during the whole-house renovation. All of the walls and ceilings were resurfaced, the windows, doors and all interior trim was re-done.
The end result was a giant leap forward for this family; in design, style and functionality. The home felt completely new and refreshed, and once fully furnished, all elements of the renovation came together seamlessly and seemed to make all of the renovations shine.
During the "big reveal" moment, the day the family finally returned home for their summer away, it was difficult for me to decide who was more excited, the adults or the kids!
The home owners kept saying, with a look of delighted disbelief "I can't believe this is our house!"
As a designer, I absolutely loved this project, because it shows the potential of an average, older Pittsburgh area home, and how it can become a well designed and updated space.
It was rewarding to be part of a project which resulted in creating an elegant and serene living space the family loves coming home to everyday, while the exterior of the home became a standout gem in the neighborhood.

A warm rust-toned sectional anchors the room, introducing depth and comfort while contrasting softly with the neutral architecture. Layered pillows and textiles add subtle pattern and texture, creating a setting that feels both casual and refined.
Large steel-framed windows bring in views of the surrounding landscape, while soft drapery adds warmth and scale to the walls. A woven leather coffee table introduces an element of craftsmanship and material richness, complementing the natural palette of wood, linen, and soft neutrals. KCBR Design | RemodelThis Kansas City basement remodel transformed an unfinished space into a warm, welcoming extension of the home, designed for both entertaining and everyday living. A custom bar features paneled appliances, including a beverage fridge, ice maker, and dishwasher, while the cozy family room sets the scene for game days and gatherings. Additional highlights include a new bedroom with egress, a full bathroom, a custom playhouse for the homeowners’ daughter, and woodwork handcrafted by a close family friend. MainStreet Design BuildHome is where the heart is for this family and not surprisingly, a much needed mudroom entrance for their teenage boys and a soothing master suite to escape from everyday life are at the heart of this home renovation. With some small interior modifications and a 6′ x 20′ addition, MainStreet Design Build was able to create the perfect space this family had been hoping for.
In the original layout, the side entry of the home converged directly on the laundry room, which opened up into the family room. This unappealing room configuration created a difficult traffic pattern across carpeted flooring to the rest of the home. Additionally, the garage entry came in from a separate entrance near the powder room and basement, which also lead directly into the family room.
With the new addition, all traffic was directed through the new mudroom, providing both locker and closet storage for outerwear before entering the family room. In the newly remodeled family room space, MainStreet Design Build removed the old side entry door wall and made a game area with French sliding doors that opens directly into the backyard patio. On the second floor, the addition made it possible to expand and re-design the master bath and bedroom. The new bedroom now has an entry foyer and large living space, complete with crown molding and a very large private bath. The new luxurious master bath invites room for two at the elongated custom inset furniture vanity, a freestanding tub surrounded by built-in’s and a separate toilet/steam shower room.
