The original poorly-lit and narrow staircase failed to meet IRC code requirements, necessitating a wider and more accommodating design. To structurally secure the new spacious welded steel and solid oak free-floating staircase and to move the catwalk by three feet involved close collaboration with structural engineers and the implementation of a steel I beam extending from the front toward the back of the house, with a 45-degree turn to connect with existing structural supports on the second floor.

This project had a failed coating applied to it that was faulty from the manufacture. We ground off the existing coating and exposed a heavy full exposure aggregate surface. We then continued the polishing process up to a highly reflective sheen. This floor will provide a extremely durable, stain resistant and long lasting surface while looking stunning.

The 800 square-foot guest cottage is located on the footprint of a slightly smaller original cottage that was built three generations ago. With a failing structural system, the existing cottage had a very low sloping roof, did not provide for a lot of natural light and was not energy efficient. Utilizing high performing windows, doors and insulation, a total transformation of the structure occurred. A combination of clapboard and shingle siding, with standout touches of modern elegance, welcomes guests to their cozy retreat.
The cottage consists of the main living area, a small galley style kitchen, master bedroom, bathroom and sleeping loft above. The loft construction was a timber frame system utilizing recycled timbers from the Balsams Resort in northern New Hampshire. The stones for the front steps and hearth of the fireplace came from the existing cottage’s granite chimney. Stylistically, the design is a mix of both a “Cottage” style of architecture with some clean and simple “Tech” style features, such as the air-craft cable and metal railing system. The color red was used as a highlight feature, accentuated on the shed dormer window exterior frames, the vintage looking range, the sliding doors and other interior elements.

Resting on the lake’s edge, this 2,600 square-foot cottage was renovated to capture the beauty of its age and history. Having been in the family for decades, an abundance of memories filled the rafters and lead the design decision, transforming it into an elegant, lakeside cabin retreat. The original pier foundation was beginning to fail, which lead to the creation of a new foundation and crawl space. The original structure still needed to be preserved, so it was elevated off of the existing pier foundation. Once resting upon its new foundation, the exterior was re-clad in shingles to match the existing exterior siding and a new entry configuration was built.
Spatial and programmatic issues were addressed is this renovation to provide an optimal guest and living experience. Old spaces were connected to new and updated ones to create a variety of gathering spaces. A new garage was constructed behind the existing guesthouse and shed, all of which received new siding treatments to match that of the main residence. A revitalized landscaping plan took shape between the four structures, bringing emphasis to the defined entryway and promoting group activities at the lakefront.

Our new client requested our services for the exterior painting of their 1981 Medfield home. The entire exterior was initially scrubbed by hand with bleach and jomax. The Hardy Plank siding, trim, casings, shutters, and doors were scraped of any failing paint, feather sanded and spot primed on the bare wood. The back deck was stripped of the existing stain, restored with a wood brightener and then applied with a semi-translucent stain. Sherwin Williams paint was used to match the existing exterior colors.

LOFT | Luxury Loft Transformation | FOUR POINT DESIGN BUILD INC
This ultra feminine luxury loft was designed for an up-and-coming fashion/travel writer. With 30' soaring ceiling heights, five levels, winding paths of travel and tight stairways, no storage at all, very little usable wall space, a tight timeline, and a very modest budget, we had our work cut out for us. Thrilled to report, the client loves it, and we completed the project on time and on budget.

Porch and terrace repaired, redesigned, and revived for sunny, year-round space.
These homeowners had an existing porch in their home, but it was failing. Both the porch and adjoining terrace were over the garage, which added technical complexity to building this project.
The terrace had been redone and the structure was fine, but the porch structure was failing. It needed to be completely repaired. Since the space needed to be completely redone, the homeowners decided to not just recreate the old space, but redesign it and make it the bright year-round space they dreamed of.
The final design choices include floor heat, to keep the space warm and cozy year-round, and full windows, to keep the bitter winter winds outside. What the homeowners most love about the room is that while the rest of the house is traditional and a bit darker, this room is always bright and cozy, with lots of light, year-round. The windows can open up during the summer season to let the sounds of the birds and scents of the grills in, or stay closed to enjoy bright sunlight during the winter. Year-round sunlight - without even needing to wear socks!
