The challenge on this project is very common in the beach areas of LA--how to maximize storage when you have very little closet space. To address this issue and also provide an attractive accent to the home, we worked with the client to design and build custom cabinets into the space of her prior reach-in closet. We utilized clean, white raised panel cabinetry with plenty of drawers, as well as hanging space and shelves behind the cabinet doors. This complemented the traditional decor of the home.

This one is near and dear to my heart. Not only is it in my own backyard, it is also the first remodel project I've gotten to do for myself! This space was previously a detached two car garage in our backyard. Seeing it transform from such a utilitarian, dingy garage to a bright and cheery little retreat was so much fun and so rewarding! This space was slated to be an AirBNB from the start and I knew I wanted to design it for the adventure seeker, the savvy traveler, and those who appreciate all the little design details . My goal was to make a warm and inviting space that our guests would look forward to coming back to after a full day of exploring the city or gorgeous mountains and trails that define the Pacific Northwest. I also wanted to make a few bold choices, like the hunter green kitchen cabinets or patterned tile, because while a lot of people might be too timid to make those choice for their own home, who doesn't love trying it on for a few days?At the end of the day I am so happy with how it all turned out!

Improve your bedroom with the perfect area rug, an essential piece that adds both style and comfort to your space. A well-chosen rug does more than just cover the floor—it injects warmth, texture, and personality into your bedroom decor. With a variety of options available, finding the ideal rug involves considering design, material, and practical features.
Design and Style: Choose a rug that complements your bedroom’s aesthetic, whether it’s contemporary, modern, traditional, mid-century modern, or transitional. Hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs offer luxurious textures and detailed craftsmanship, perfect for adding a touch of elegance. For a sleek, modern look, machine-woven rugs feature vibrant patterns and are designed for durability, often with heat-set fibers that extend their lifespan. Flat-woven rugs, such as kilims, are versatile and reversible, fitting seamlessly into various decor styles.
Materials and Comfort: The material of your rug affects both its look and feel. Shag and flokati rugs provide a plush, cozy experience with their long, soft fibers, making your bedroom a more inviting retreat. Hand-loomed rugs offer unique textures and artisanal quality, while braided and hand-hooked rugs bring a charming, handcrafted element. Opt for machine washable rugs to simplify maintenance, ensuring your rug remains fresh and clean with minimal effort.
Practical Features: Select rugs that combine style with practical benefits. Stain-resistant and water-resistant rugs maintain their appearance and withstand spills. Non-slip and adhesive backings are essential for safety on hardwood floors, preventing slips and keeping the rug securely in place. Cushioned rugs provide added comfort, enhancing the luxury and coziness of your bedroom.
Customization and Personalization: Personalize your space with custom or personalized rug sets. An 8x10 area rug offers ample coverage and can be tailored to fit your bedroom perfectly. Features like fringe details or organic textures allow you to create a rug that reflects your unique style and complements your existing decor.
Versatility and Maintenance: The top 15 area rugs provide a diverse range of styles and features to suit any bedroom theme. From distressed designs that add character to contemporary patterns that offer a modern edge, there’s a rug for every aesthetic. Look for options that blend style with practicality to ensure your rug enhances your bedroom decor while standing up to everyday use.
In summary, selecting the right area rug involves balancing visual appeal with functional benefits. Whether you choose a luxurious hand-tufted design, a practical machine-woven option, or a versatile flat-woven style, the right rug will elevate your bedroom decor and create a stylish, comfortable retreat. Explore various choices to find the perfect rug that aligns with your design preferences and practical needs.

“This is well detailed and consistent inside and out. It is a classic Mediterranean Revival in the Floridian tradition of Mizner.”
This single-family residential home in Gables Estates, Coral Gables, Florida, successfully pays respect to the architecture of the Mediterranean and Renaissance Italian styles. From the use of courtyards to the high level of detailing, this project emphasizes the most picturesque and expressive qualities of these styles. The residence reflects the visions of two of Coral Gables’ first architects, who designed beautiful and timeless architecture in this garden city to become a lasting piece in the landscape. This project not only captures the breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay, but with timeless style and lush landscaping, it creates a centerpiece for the view from the bay to Coral Gables.
The home is designed as a long gallery, with spaces connected by courtyards and public realms. Another large inspiration for this project was the idea of the garden and landscape. With Coral Gables as a garden city, landscape became an integral part of the conception and design.
The durability of Marvin products, their ability to stand up to the South Florida climate, as well as the Marvin attention to detail and proportion, made them the perfect choice to employ in a project of such high standards. The range of products allowed the freedom of design to explore all possibilities and turn visions into reality. The result was a lasting piece of architecture that would reflect a level of detail in every part of its structure.

Rather than starting with an outcome in mind, this 1,400 square foot residence began from a polemic place - exploring shared conviction regarding the concentrated power of living with a smaller footprint. From the gabled silhouette to passive ventilation, the home captures the nostalgia for the past with the sustainable practices of the future.
While the exterior materials contrast a calm, minimal palette with the sleek lines of the gabled silhouette, the interior spaces embody a playful, artistic spirit. From the hand painted De Gournay wallpaper in the master bath to the rugged texture of the over-grouted limestone and Portuguese cobblestones, the home is an experience that encapsulates the unexpected and the timeless.
