Elizabeth Strianese Interiors and Meredith Heuer photography. We opted for a classic inspired bathroom with literally "splashes" of fun for these little girls. The triple laundry sink serves the 3 children nicely with it's deep basin and built in soap holders. Simplicity was key when selecting a class marble hex floor tile and white subway tile for the bulk of the room - but then we had a little fun with the colorful glass mosaic tile in the tub niche. Handblown locally made light fixtures from Dan Spitzer over the sink keep my signature of "local and handmade" alive.

Our designer has achieved a stylish look by combining dark cabinets and light-colored marbles.

Our client saw our Miraloma Modern project and fell head over heels — to the extent that they inquired about replicating the design for their home. We honed in on elements they loved about the Miraloma Modern project and created a new design that incorporates their specific design perspective for a modern, yet timeless kitchen that felt down to earth. Her love for woods and an interesting backsplash served as the jumping off point for the project. The lilac marble backsplash and countertops pushed the clients' design sensibilities. Although theyt did not initially plan to incorporate violet tones into the kitchen, the couple both (naturally) loved the color. The dramatic lilac veining is juxtaposed with the client’s proclivity for handcrafted works, including the Bantam Mini Ceramic Pendants by Dumais Made that are positioned above the island and the hand-blown Smoke Glass Arc Pendant by Allied Maker in the Breakfast Room. Soft, wood elements are found throughout the space with the refinished existing oak wood floors and custom white oak cabinetry, while subtle nods to wood are found in the lighting fixtures.

This stunning Rhode Island Retreat is an Acorn Deck House Company collaboration with Glen S. Fontecchio Architects. It is set on a breathtaking, waterfront property and is designed to take full advantage of the panoramic views. It features a welcoming living room, kitchen, dining room and expansive decks that are perfect for entertaining. The house also has three bedrooms, an office and four and a half baths.

Inspiration for a mid-sized cottage gray two-story metal gable roof remodel in Boise

Looking for a nice clean crown molding, but what something different? These homeowners did just that with a simple clean flat molding applied to the wall and ceiling to create this look.

This new modern house is located in a meadow in Lenox MA. The house is designed as a series of linked pavilions to connect the house to the nature and to provide the maximum daylight in each room. The center focus of the home is the largest pavilion containing the living/dining/kitchen, with the guest pavilion to the south and the master bedroom and screen porch pavilions to the west. While the roof line appears flat from the exterior, the roofs of each pavilion have a pronounced slope inward and to the north, a sort of funnel shape. This design allows rain water to channel via a scupper to cisterns located on the north side of the house. Green (wet) timber shrinks as it dries. It shrinks roughly twice as much along the growth rings as it does across the rings–which is why timber develops drying checks. These checks have almost no effect on the strength of the timber, and engineers take checking into account in their calculations. Aesthetically, we like checks, and think of them like wrinkles in a cotton shirt–it proves the timber is real (and not a box beam). Checking can be minimized to a certain extent. For example: specifying FOHC (Free of Heart Center), selecting a timber species with less shrinkage, slowing the drying process, or purchasing dry timber (reclaimed or radio frequency kiln dried) and orienting the checks in specific timbers so as to be less visible (i.e. toward an outside wall). In the timber industry, a drying check is not the same thing as a split. A check almost always stops at the heart (the center of the tree) of the timber, whereas a split breaks the timber into 2 pieces. © Carolina Timberworks
