Many families ponder the idea of adding extra living space for a few years before they are actually ready to remodel. Then, all-of-the sudden, something will happen that makes them realize that they can’t wait any longer. In the case of this remodeling story, it was the snowstorm of 2016 that spurred the homeowners into action. As the family was stuck in the house with nowhere to go, they longed for more space. The parents longed for a getaway spot for themselves that could also double as a hangout area for the kids and their friends. As they considered their options, there was one clear choice…to renovate the detached garage. The detached garage previously functioned as a workshop and storage room and offered plenty of square footage to create a family room, kitchenette, and full bath. It’s location right beside the outdoor kitchen made it an ideal spot for entertaining and provided an easily accessible bathroom during the summertime. Even the canine family members get to enjoy it as they have their own personal entrance, through a bathroom doggie door. Our design team listened carefully to our client’s wishes to create a space that had a modern rustic feel and found selections that fit their aesthetic perfectly. To set the tone, Blackstone Oak luxury vinyl plank flooring was installed throughout. The kitchenette area features Maple Shaker style cabinets in a pecan shell stain, Uba Tuba granite countertops, and an eye-catching amber glass and antique bronze pulley sconce. Rather than use just an ordinary door for the bathroom entry, a gorgeous Knotty Alder barn door creates a stunning focal point of the room. The fantastic selections continue in the full bath. A reclaimed wood double vanity with a gray washed pine finish anchors the room. White, semi-recessed sinks with chrome faucets add some contemporary accents, while the glass and oil-rubbed bronze mini pendant lights are a balance between both rustic and modern. The design called for taking the shower tile to the ceiling and it really paid off. And with winter approaching and snow on the way, this family is ready to hunker down and ride out the storm in comfort and warmth. These repeat clients were looking for a relaxing getaway for their family of five young kids and themselves to enjoy. Upon finding the perfect vacation destination, they turned once again to JRP’s team of experts for their full home remodel. They knew JRP would provide them with the quality and attention to detail they expected. The vision was to give the home a clean, bright, and coastal look. It also needed to have the functionality a large family requires. This home previously lacked the light and bright feel they wanted in their vacation home. With small windows and balcony in the master bedroom, it also failed to take advantage of the beautiful harbor views. The carpet was yet another major problem for the family. With young kids, these clients were looking for a lower maintenance option that met their design vision. To fix these issues, JRP removed the carpet and tile throughout and replaced with a beautiful seven-inch engineered oak hardwood flooring. Ceiling fans were installed to meet the needs of the coastal climate. They also gave the home a whole new cohesive design and pallet by using blue and white colors throughout. From there, efforts were focused on giving the master bedroom a major reconfiguration. The balcony was expanded, and a larger glass panel and metal handrail was installed leading to their private outdoor space. Now they could really enjoy all the harbor views. The bedroom and bathroom were also expanded by moving the closet and removing an extra vanity from the hallway. By the end, the bedroom truly became a couples’ retreat while the rest of the home became just the relaxing getaway the family needed.

This family was looking to create an outdoor space they could enjoy year-round and use as extra space while entertaining. When it came time to remodel their kitchen, they decided to add a custom deck to the front and back of the home, as well as a custom covered space in the back. The French doors make it easy to carry large, heavy trays of food to and from their smokers and creates a seamless transition to their fully remodeled kitchen. What a beautiful space the whole family can enjoy!

This bathroom renovation was for a retired couple seeking to maintain independence and enjoy their master bathroom as a spa retreat. The existing space did not have sufficient storage, was poorly light, had a shower with a small entry, and a stepped large bathtub that was virtually never used. The couple sought to open the space, create a shower they could really enjoy, and create more accessible storage for them to utilize given the size of their bathroom, which was approximately 9’ x 13’. We removed the existing shower and bathtub. The walls were removed to open the space. We then framed back what would become the left wall of the new shower, due to the existing wall being both out of plumb and out of square. The floor joists were lowered inside the shower to allow for a curbless entry. This was necessary for us to install tile on the inside the shower in the way the owner desired. The tile inside of the shower was Celima Galeras Noce, in 12x12, 3x12, and 2x2(for the floor). The accent was a mini-brick Sunset Lava. The floor tile was replaced through the space, the toilet was upgraded to a Kohler comfort height toilet, and the bathroom received new base board and door casing throughout. Customized storage cabinets and open shelves were installed to the left of the shower. Lighting was upgraded and a fresh coat of paint finished off the space, creating a much brighter and lighter feel, which was in keeping with the open concept which carried through to the extra-large shower, shower glass, and open shelving.

This bathroom renovation was for a retired couple seeking to maintain independence and enjoy their master bathroom as a spa retreat. The existing space did not have sufficient storage, was poorly light, had a shower with a small entry, and a stepped large bathtub that was virtually never used. The couple sought to open the space, create a shower they could really enjoy, and create more accessible storage for them to utilize given the size of their bathroom, which was approximately 9’ x 13’. We removed the existing shower and bathtub. The walls were removed to open the space. We then framed back what would become the left wall of the new shower, due to the existing wall being both out of plumb and out of square. The floor joists were lowered inside the shower to allow for a curbless entry. This was necessary for us to install tile on the inside the shower in the way the owner desired. The tile inside of the shower was Celima Galeras Noce, in 12x12, 3x12, and 2x2(for the floor). The accent was a mini-brick Sunset Lava. The floor tile was replaced through the space, the toilet was upgraded to a Kohler comfort height toilet, and the bathroom received new base board and door casing throughout. Customized storage cabinets and open shelves were installed to the left of the shower. Lighting was upgraded and a fresh coat of paint finished off the space, creating a much brighter and lighter feel, which was in keeping with the open concept which carried through to the extra-large shower, shower glass, and open shelving.
