Our designer has achieved a stylish look by combining dark cabinets and light-colored marbles.

Our clients moved into their 1957 home a year prior and needed more space with their 1st child on the way! We decided to bump the kitchen out 13' to gain approximately 300 square feet of new space to meet their needs. The new space included an ample sized mudroom, kitchen and dining area, as well as a new bar. The transformation was very rewarding as the light began to pour into the entire house, not to mention all the handcrafted custom finishes!

White floors can be challenging to use, but when pulled off correctly are extremely rewarding. An instant statement-maker, they often present the challenge of maintenance. For Nordland, we specifically created a slightly weathered pattern with darker knots, so that they do not reveal dirt as quickly. REDEFINING DURABILITY The most important specification for determining the durability of vinyl flooring is the thickness of the wear-layer. The best wear-layers are made of thick, clear virgin PVC, which covers the paper print-film that gives the floor its unique appearance. Once the wear-layer wears through, the paper is damaged and the floor will need replacement. Most vinyl floors come with a 8-12 mil wear-layer (0.2-3 mm). The top commercial specs in the industry are higher, at 20-22 mil (0.5 mm). A select few manufacturers offer a "super" commercial spec of 28 mil (0.7 mm). For Modin, we decided to set a new standard: 40 mil (1.0 mm) of premium virgin PVC. This allows us to offer an industry-leading 20 year Commercial Warranty (Lifetime Residential), compared to nearly all other commercial vinyl floors' 10 year Commercial Warranty. Beyond our superior wear-layer, we also use a patented click mechanism for superior hold, and a ceramic-bead coating. SIZE MATTERS Wider and longer planks create a sense of space and luxury. Most vinyl floors come in 6" or 7" widths, and 36" or 48" lengths. For Modin, we designed our planks to be 9" wide, and 60" long. This extra large size allows our gorgeous designs to be fully expressed. DETAILS THAT COUNT We made sure to get all the details right. Real texture, to create the feel of wire-brushed wood. Low sheen level, to ensure a natural look that wears well over time. 4-sided bevels, to more accurately emulate the look of real planks. White Shaker cabinets with Lyra Silestone and marble back splash. We stacked the cabinetry and used the backsplash from countertop to ceiling to achieve a more stunning, opulent look for a relatively small increase in price. Think: cost VS reward. The cost of a few extra cabinets and marble tiles was a small price to pay for the stunning final results.

The exterior received complete attention as well. The 1970s mottled brown brick went white to completely transform the look from dated to classic French. Inside, walls were removed and doorways widened to create an open floor plan that functions so well for everyday living as well as entertaining. The white walls and white trim make everything new, fresh and bright. It is so rewarding to see something old transformed into something new, more beautiful and more functional.

Working with this couple for almost a decade has been so rewarding and fun! We recently updated their living area, master bath, guest bath and created a craft room in their former game room. The living area is classic and timeless, reflecting the homeowner's elevated level of taste, along with selective pops of color! The master bath exudes elegance with a spa-like soaking tub with sexy lines, a generous shower, and rich marbles in a unique rug pattern on the floor and backsplash. This timeless look will never get boring! The upstairs craft room was created for the optimal place for the homeowner to paint and create art with her grandchildren. The repurposed quarter-sawn wood top was hand selected and the table and cabinetry were custom designed and built to hold all of her essentials. Natural light from the sky light and windows keep this room always bright. The guest bath off of the craft area takes a twist on classic black and white, interpreted in a whimsical manner to keep things fun!

This Master Suite Design was extra special as it was one of my many "Mystery Makeover's"! My client an executive tired of her once very plain bed & dresser (only) bedroom said after our interview, ok, I will be out of town on business for a few days, here is my key, go to it and make it beautiful!! I had less than 2 weeks to prepare for this entire design, including having the ceiling to floor custom linen window treatments (with heavy blackout material for superb light blocking) fabricated, re-paint the walls, ceiling in a light fresh gray & trim in white , purchase and install the wall mounted fireplace, have the two light fixtures custom made, new electrical placed in the ceiling where there was none, select all the furnishings, (the chevron chair I reupholstered myself, locate all the bedding to include custom pillows by Dawn D Totty Designs, art work, area rug, accessories, custom made camera light (my client is also a pro photographer) and an upholstered headboard in just the right shade of plum!! The installation took only 6 hours! What a rewarding and successful project, one I enjoyed every minute of!!
