Kitchen is Center In our design to combine the apartments, we centered the kitchen - making it a dividing line between private and public space; vastly expanding the storage and work surface area. We discovered an existing unused roof penetration to run a duct to vent out a powerful kitchen hood. The original bathroom skylight now illuminates the central kitchen space. Without changing the standard skylight size, we gave it architectural scale by carving out the ceiling to maximize daylight. Light now dances off the vaulted, sculptural angles of the ceiling to bathe the entire space in natural light.

Kitchen - contemporary kitchen idea in Moscow

Brookhaven cabinets in Nordic White accompanied by marble countertops and a porcelain subway tile. The Wolf Gas Range is paired with a custom canopy hood by Wood-Mode, designed with 3" wide corbels. The sink area has decorative toe kick valance to give it a furniture look and feel. The homeowner displays her favorite art pieces above her sink and gives the room the right amount of color. I began working with this client after a water leak reeked havoc on the majority of her home. I knocked down a good majority of their walls to create a unique, bright and airy space that screamed....come cook in me! Emily Redfield photography, EKD cabinetry and kitchen layout. I sourced the marble from Decorative Materials on the East Coast and the counter material and design of the hood I worked with Francois & CO again at the DDC.

The dark tones in the room and statement geometric tiled splashback give the design a strong urban feel. Choosing to paint the wall, cabinetry and canopy in the same dark green enhances the room's bold aesthetics.
