Inspired by Italian and Provencal architecture, Cypress Ridge is designed to reflect the poetic harmony and enduring characteristics of age-old hilltop villages. A combination of irregularly shaped stones with colors ranging from sundrenched golds, earthy browns and faint olive green hues offset rust-colored accents to give each stone its own story to tell.

The small nook off the family room is the gentlemen's bar, complete with a hammered copper vessel sink with a handle like a bucket, natural stone and glass backsplash, wine cellar, dishwasher for all the bar glasses and an under-counter refrigerator. The design on the cabinets was carefully chosen with the diamond mullions to continue with the Adirondack theme and with the chiseled edge on the granite. As luxurious as the home is, don't forget it is in the mountains among acreage and private lots full of multiple walking trails that are not for the faint of heart. This is a man's home; a place for guys to go and unwind in a posh gentlemen's club that exudes comfort and luxury, but not stuffiness.

This rustic retreat in central Oregon is loaded with modern amenities.
The master suite in this Tuscan inspired rustic home features an adobe fireplace with a seating area for relaxing in front of the fire. Located on the second floor, the bedroom has a grand view of the golf course from the private balcony.
Timber frame and log houses often conjure notions of remote rustic outposts located in solitary surroundings of open grasslands or mature woodlands. When the owner approached MossCreek to design a timber-framed log home on a less than one acre site in an upscale Oregon golf community, the principle of the firm, Allen Halcomb, was intrigued. Bend, OR, on the eastern side of the Cascades Mountains, has an arid desert climate, creating an ideal environment for a Tuscan influenced exterior.

The homeowners of this condo sought our assistance when downsizing from a large family home on Howe Sound to a small urban condo in Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver. They asked us to incorporate many of their precious antiques and art pieces into the new design. Our challenges here were twofold; first, how to deal with the unconventional curved floor plan with vast South facing windows that provide a 180 degree view of downtown Vancouver, and second, how to successfully merge an eclectic collection of antique pieces into a modern setting. We began by updating most of their artwork with new matting and framing. We created a gallery effect by grouping like artwork together and displaying larger pieces on the sections of wall between the windows, lighting them with black wall sconces for a graphic effect. We re-upholstered their antique seating with more contemporary fabrics choices - a gray flannel on their Victorian fainting couch and a fun orange chenille animal print on their Louis style chairs. We selected black as an accent colour for many of the accessories as well as the dining room wall to give the space a sophisticated modern edge. The new pieces that we added, including the sofa, coffee table and dining light fixture are mid century inspired, bridging the gap between old and new. White walls and understated wallpaper provide the perfect backdrop for the colourful mix of antique pieces. Interior Design by Lori Steeves, Simply Home Decorating.
