A modern wood-burning fireplace anchors this open-concept living space, providing warmth and visual contrast within a light-filled interior. Clean lines, warm hardwood flooring, and expansive glazing create a seamless connection between living and kitchen areas. Thoughtful placement allows the fireplace to function as both a sculptural element and a practical gathering point in this Oakville custom home.

Along with our concrete masonry units, specialty mortars, pavingstones, and segmental retaining wall units, ORCO’s innovative product line includes Burntech fireplaces. This off-grid mountain barn home located in the heart of the Rockies sits at 7,500 feet and has expansive, beautiful views of the foothills below. The model is a Barn Pros 36 ft. x 36 ft. Denali barn apartment with a partially enclosed shed roof on one side for outdoor seating and entertainment area. The deck off the back of the building is smaller than the standard 12 ft. x 12 ft. deck included in the Denali package. Roll-up garage doors like the one shown at the front of the home are an add-on option for nearly any Barn Pros kit. Inside, the finish is decidedly rustic modern where sheetrock walls contrast handsomely with the exposed posts and beams throughout the space. The owners incorporated garage parking, laundry, kitchenette with wood-burning stove oven, bathroom, workout area and a pool table all on the first floor. The upper level houses the main living space where contemporary décor and finished are combined with natural wood flooring and those same exposed posts and beams. Lots of natural light fills the space from the 18 ft. vaulted ceilings, dormer windows and French doors off the living room. The owners added a partial loft for additional sleeping and a functional storage area.

We worked with the owners to design and build a custom screened porch that would not only give them features and functionality they desired but also compliment and blend into their exisitng home. Some of the unique features include a large wood burning fireplace with gas assist, custom mantel with cultured stone surround, A/V system with large 50" flat panel TV, multiple audio zones and more. The flooring is a luxury vinyl plank that mimicks real wood but will allow for many years of use in the "outdoor" space.

Relocating from Australia, our clients envisioned a home that could accommodate guests and lakefront entertaining. Situated on Pine Lake in West Bloomfield and completed in July 2024, we created new spaces, reimagined old ones, and even added a new front entry façade! As part of this project, we also renovated the oversized mudroom/laundry room. The room itself was multi-functional, but underutilized. We reallocated some of this unused space for an adjacent guest bedroom. Within the mud room, we maintained and repurposed the old wood-burning stove. Its bricks were carefully restored and lime-washed, and custom cabinetry was built around the hundred-year-old chimney to create a seamless update. We added a deep functional sink and drop zone, accessible just inside the main foyer entrance. With new front-loaded washer and dryers, the large and expansive quartzite countertop allows for easy folding and drying of clothes, as well as dropping off hunting and fishing gear from a day spent outdoors.

This new flush face wood burning insert from Jotul is named for the port city of Winterport, Maine. The C 350 is ideal for small-to-medium spaces and can retrofit into most factory-built fireplaces.

The popular and widely-copied wood stove by Jotul has returned! Practical, yet elegant and stylish, the Jotul 118 CB Black Bear retains the classic design and practicality of the original Model 118, while offering modern solid fuel combustion technology. The updated model incorporates Jotul's patented Crossflow non-catalytic combustion system with our own proven front-to-back “cigar burn.” The 118 CB Black Bear burns cleanly and keeps burning for hours. As a tribute to its Norwegian origins, the Jotul 118 CB Black Bear sports a decorative front plate with a Norske proverb that translates: “I built a fire one night. When day is done, may God will that my flame never die out.”
