Cape Cod; Dennis, MA This kitchen beautifully captures the essence of a Cape Cod coastal style, blending a light, airy color palette with high-end, functional elements. The room is centered around a kitchen island with a dark countertop and classic turned legs, offering a striking visual contrast to the mostly white space. The island provides both a spacious workspace and a casual dining area with woven bar stools that feature a subtle patterned cushion. Above the island, two modern pendant lights with polished metal shades serve as a focal point and provide task lighting. The kitchen's main work area features a white farmhouse sink situated beneath a large window, which floods the space with natural light. The countertops and full-height backsplash are a single slab of white marble with delicate veining, creating a clean and luxurious surface. The white shaker-style cabinetry, including glass-front cabinets for displaying dishes, reinforces the traditional coastal aesthetic. On the far left, a large, integrated refrigerator with sleek handles maintains the clean, built-in look of the cabinetry. AV Architects + Builders Location: Great Falls, VA, United States Our clients were looking to renovate their existing master bedroom into a more luxurious, modern space with an open floor plan and expansive modern bath design. The existing floor plan felt too cramped and didn’t offer much closet space or spa like features. Without having to make changes to the exterior structure, we designed a space customized around their lifestyle and allowed them to feel more relaxed at home. Our modern design features an open-concept master bedroom suite that connects to the master bath for a total of 600 square feet. We included floating modern style vanity cabinets with white Zen quartz, large black format wall tile, and floating hanging mirrors. Located right next to the vanity area is a large, modern style pull-out linen cabinet that provides ample storage, as well as a wooden floating bench that provides storage below the large window. The centerpiece of our modern design is the combined free-standing tub and walk-in, curb less shower area, surrounded by views of the natural landscape. To highlight the modern design interior, we added light white porcelain large format floor tile to complement the floor-to-ceiling dark grey porcelain wall tile to give off a modern appeal. Inspiration for a contemporary light wood floor kitchen remodel in Los Angeles with a double-bowl sink, flat-panel cabinets, white cabinets, black appliances and an island

I built this on my property for my aging father who has some health issues. Handicap accessibility was a factor in design. His dream has always been to try retire to a cabin in the woods. This is what he got. It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath with a great room. It is 600 sqft of AC space. The footprint is 40' x 26' overall. The site was the former home of our pig pen. I only had to take 1 tree to make this work and I planted 3 in its place. The axis is set from root ball to root ball. The rear center is aligned with mean sunset and is visible across a wetland. The goal was to make the home feel like it was floating in the palms. The geometry had to simple and I didn't want it feeling heavy on the land so I cantilevered the structure beyond exposed foundation walls. My barn is nearby and it features old 1950's "S" corrugated metal panel walls. I used the same panel profile for my siding. I ran it vertical to match the barn, but also to balance the length of the structure and stretch the high point into the canopy, visually. The wood is all Southern Yellow Pine. This material came from clearing at the Babcock Ranch Development site. I ran it through the structure, end to end and horizontally, to create a seamless feel and to stretch the space. It worked. It feels MUCH bigger than it is. I milled the material to specific sizes in specific areas to create precise alignments. Floor starters align with base. Wall tops adjoin ceiling starters to create the illusion of a seamless board. All light fixtures, HVAC supports, cabinets, switches, outlets, are set specifically to wood joints. The front and rear porch wood has three different milling profiles so the hypotenuse on the ceilings, align with the walls, and yield an aligned deck board below. Yes, I over did it. It is spectacular in its detailing. That's the benefit of small spaces. Concrete counters and IKEA cabinets round out the conversation. For those who cannot live tiny, I offer the Tiny-ish House. Modern family loft renovation. A young couple starting a family in the city purchased this two story loft in Boston's South End. Built in the 1990's, the loft was ready for updates. ZED transformed the space, creating a fresh new look and greatly increasing its functionality to accommodate an expanding family within an urban setting. Stepping into this bright modern home in Seattle we hope you get a bit of that mid century feel. The kitchen and baths have a flat panel cabinet design to achieve a clean look. Throughout the home we have oak flooring and casing for the windows. The desk area was also done in the same grey stained oak, with a clean floating design to maximize seating space and create an open feel. The wallpaper takes a more prominent role here behind the woodwork. Cords were eliminated largely by going wireless wherever possible. The remaining cords are run through the wall. © emily gilbert
