The Cobblestone Bar - This corner was an eyesore in Cincinnati's OTR neighborhood for several decades. Our team gave this old bar a new life with a modern rustic aesthetic preserving the original brick and incorporating leather, wood and brass details throughout to create an elegant bar with a neighborhood feel where connections are made. We completely restored an existing, broken backbar into a historic gem, installed a new concrete front bar with brass inlay with a custom tap system connected into a renovated basement cellar below. Located on historic West Grace in Richmond, Virginia, the property is surrounded by a mix of attractive single family homes and small historic apartment buildings. Walking distance to the Science Museum of Virginia, Monument Ave, many hip restaurants, this block is a sought after location for young professionals moving to Richmond. Piperbear wanted to restore this building in a manner that respects the history of the area while also adding a design aesthetic that is in touch with the change happening in Richmond.

This client contacted us wanting a new walkway, patio and landscape. They originally had nothing besides a boring concrete walkway that wasn't functional. We designed a new walkway that created access from the garage and the lower part of the driveway for guests and visitors. The walkway was also broken up to provide some separation and detail. We also created a comfy and private courtyard and sitting area. In the back we created a simple, compact and functional outdoor living space. The grill is within close proximity to the kitchen and allows for some seating on the back side to converse with the person that is cooking. Off to the side of the grill is ample space for the dining table. The lounge and fire feature is separated with steppers to separate the two spaces to create more of a room feeling. All is softened with carefully picked plant material to provide color and privacy. The landscape lighting completes this project.

This interior remodel included a refresh of the living room space. The floors were darker with an orange hue. They were refinished to be closer to the natural blond finish brightening up the space. The fireplace received a complete makeover. Originally it had a raised hearth with terra cotta tile with a painted white wood surround and mantle. We removed everything, recessed a Botticino stone hearth, installed a stone surround to the ceiling and added a reclaimed wood mantle. The stone and hearth are light keeping with the light and airy feel the homeowner was looking to achieve.

Stage 2 is the final stage with the exception of eventually changing out artwork. The owner wanted more floor space and a spa like feel with neutral colors and soft textures. The old, broken verticals are replaced with soft off-white semi-sheer curtains. The furniture is scaled down creating easy access to the sliding glass doors.

This Beautiful Bluestone Patio project consisted of the removal of the existing patio and select plant material with some items being transplanted. We then installed a new bluestone patio area using natural PA Flagstone (pattern cut) and a new path through the landscape bed using natural PA irregular Flagstone. New plants and enlarged landscape beds were installed around the broken flagstone walkway and new stone patio. Next to the patio we installed a custom privacy fence panel using Western Red Cedar lumber to give the new patio area a private feel from on looking neighbors.

The wall around the dining room was removed to open to the new kitchen. The whole space feels so much larger not being broken into multiple confined spaces. The HVAC moved into the recessed tray ceiling of the dining area. Shown in this photo is the new pantry which has a paneled side to resemble the custom refrigerator. Next to it is the wet bar with floating shelves, task lighting, and counter-to-ceiling backsplash!

Using design influences from New Havana, we replaced all of the existing finishes with the exception of the tile floor. The wallpaper is called Pacaya Japura by Romo and is a stunning design featuring beautifully detailed palmetto palm leaves with a subtle textural appearance. The rich wood cabinetry is Dura Supreme in maple finished with a coffee glaze. The countertop is a Pompeii Quartz called Sunny Pearl which has a creamy beige background with broken seashells sprinkled in to bring your memories to the sandy oceanside. Sitting proud on the countertop is a beige travertine rectangular vessel sink by Signature Hardware. Finally, the Uttermost Balkan mirror is an eye-catching, rectangular wall mirror featuring beveled glass framed by hand-forged iron in lightly antiqued gold finish with an outer frame of clear, solid acrylic bars. Working together all of these finishes were carefully chosen to create the feeling that you were taking an evening walk down the cobblestone streets of Havana.

This homeowner is part of a new development and they had a blank slate to start with. They wanted to have a few different spaces but at the same time make them feel that they are separate spaces/rooms. We also mixed in a few different materials utilizing natural bluestone and Unilock pavers. We went over the existing concrete steps with bluestone that complements the Unilock Richcliff paver. We created three rooms that are all broken up with a built in planter. They have their outdoor dining room/kitchen, a lounge area with a custom built fire feature and a quiet sitting area.

The garden is roughly broken up into four areas: a flower and plant rich section near the house with a small seating area, a grass field for the kids to play spanning the entire width of the garden, a pond with a marshy banks and stepping stones, and the veranda (complete with bike shed). All the lines in the garden emphasize the width. Existing or otherwise affordable materials are used. As much as possible the garden is given a fresh, bright and colorful feeling.
