This residence is located in the historic district of Los Gatos, California. The original single story home sat on a tiny lot and was about 600 square feet. The owner wanted to double its size, but this area of the city has very limiting restrictions. The only solution was to add another story, but due to the historic nature of the house, we were not allowed to remove that much of the house. Instead we detached the house from its foundation, jacked it up, built a new first floor underneath it, lowered the existing house down and attached it all together. The owner was very pleased with the final result.

In this home renovation, we were hired to project manage and design a new kitchen, mudroom, first floor bathroom, and guest bathroom. We were also hired to stage the entire house for sale. The final result was a white kitchen and white subway tiled bathroom which created a clean and fresh modern feel even though the house was originally from the 1890s. Our Clients requested a Traditional English Style Kitchen for their San Mateo County Home. We designed and fabricated the Kitchen Cabinets with traditional fine cabinetry details such as: Recessed & Raised Panel Doors set flush inset with exposed knuckle hinges, custom made moldings and fine detailing, with a complex finish that required staining the wood, then paint it, rub thru the paint in places, and then glaze and finally top coat it to re-create a fine warm Antique feeling and look. The Large Kitchen Island features a Massive 2 ½” thick Solid Cherry Top. Our Clients are Delighted with the Final Results.

The property had been 'chopped and changed' over the years resulting in the loss of some of the original features. Many have been reintroduced as part of the project, including the cornices and ceiling roses, fireplaces and hearths and parquet flooring. The original window shutters, sash windows and architraves have been refurbished.

The Hartford collection is an inspired modern update on the classic Shaker style kitchen. Designed with simplicity in mind, the kitchens in this range have a universal appeal that never fails to delight. Each kitchen is beautifully proportioned, with an unerring focus on scale that ensures the final result is flawless.
The traditional style range cooker is everything you expect from an Aga but with the flexibility of gas and electric. This model is much more suited to modern families where we need instant heat to cook on daily. The cast-iron classic design is finished in a soft grey called Pearl Ashes, perfectly balancing the whole kitchen scheme. Other appliances such as the Miele fridge are cleverly integrated behind floor-to-ceiling cabinets.

Originally a church and community centre, this Northside residence has been lovingly renovated by an enthusiastic young couple into a unique family home.
The design brief for this kitchen design was to create a larger than life industrial style kitchen that would not look lost in the enormous 8.3meter wide “assembly hall” area of this unassuming 1950’s suburban home. The inclusion of a large island that was proportionate to the space was a must have for the family.
The collation of different materials, textures and design features in this kitchen blend to create a functional, family-friendly, industrial style kitchen design that feels warm and inviting and entirely at home in its surroundings.
The clients desire for dark charcoal colour cabinetry is softened with the use of the ‘Bluegrass’ colour cabinets under the rough finish solid wood island bench. The sleek black handles on the island contrast the Bluegrass cabinet colour while tying the island in with the handless charcoal colour cabinets on the back wall.
With limited above bench wall space, the majority of storage is accommodated in 50-65kg capacity soft closing drawers under deep benchtops maximising the storage potential of the area.
The 1meter wide appliance cabinet has ample storage for small appliances in tall deep drawers under bench height while a pair of pocket doors above bench level open to reveal bench space for a toaster and coffee machine with a microwave space and shelving above.
This kitchen design earned our designer Anne Ellard, a spot in the final of KBDI’s 2017 Designer Awards. Award winners will be announced at a Gala event in Adelaide later this year.
Now in its ninth year, the KBDi Designer Awards is a well-established and highly regarded national event on the Australian design calendar. The program recognises the professionalism and talent of Australian kitchen and bathroom designers.
What the clients said: ” The end result of our experience with Anne and Kitchens by Kathie is a space that people walk into and everyone says “Wow!”. As well as being great to look at, it’s a pleasure to use, the space has both great form and function. Anne was extremely responsive to any issues or concerns that cropped up during the design/build process which made the whole process much smoother and enjoyable. Thanks again Anne, we’re extremely happy with the result.”

Reimagining this 1929 classic design included restoration of the original rooflines, but not the original intricate wood details. The final result is stripped-down to essentials, with a clean, fresh quality inside and out. Windows have been enlarged to capture lake views, and wide sliding doors connect to the expansive deck. Sleek, glossy laminate is combined with European plywood cabinetry for a bright, hardworking kitchen.

Everything about the existing master bath was small. The shower stall was confining, the vanity storage was inadequate, and it was hard for two people to utilize at the same time. The finishes and the fixtures were dated and not functioning properly.
The clients had desired a spa-like feel to their new master bath. High on their list was a large walk-in shower that contained a steam generator. They also wanted a large vanity with plenty of storage for toiletries and towels. Obviously, a bigger sized space was needed.
The solution was to expand into the existing large front entry hallway and absorb an existing built-in cabinet in the master bedroom. The new gained space allowed for a large walk-in steam shower with bench, and a large custom vanity cabinet that feels like a piece of custom furniture. An interesting detail regarding the vanity is that it incorporated pecky cypress wood that was salvaged from the existing living room ceiling. This type of cypress is difficult to obtain, and it made sense to utilize it in some special way. It also helps retain some of the history of the existing home. To save cost, the toilet remained in its existing location, but still has its own niche for privacy. A new circle window was added in the old larger opening to provide some privacy and to add a special touch and an air of serenity.
The finishes also added to the spa-like feel. A river stone rug was inset into the main floor tile, and was placed in front of the vanity so the user could enjoy the feel of stones messaging their feet as they occupied the vanity space. A similar design was also incorporated into the shower floor for the same reason.
The final result is much more expansive space that invites the user to stay and shed the stresses of the day.
