This Bent Creek renovation and addition gave the existing 1920s home a spacious interior and modern design while still maintaining its original character. The homeowners enjoy hosting large gatherings, but the narrow footprint and small spaces created a lot of congestion inside. To alleviate this problem, the homeowners wanted to expand the cramped kitchen and living spaces, but a huge oak tree sat only 5 feet from the kitchen window. The tree holds great sentimental value to the owners, so sacrificing the tree was out of the question, and locating the kitchen expansion elsewhere was not financially feasible. As a compromise, a large portion of the house adjacent to the kitchen was demolished, and most of the kitchen function was expanded in this direction. It is certainly less expensive to put a vacant home on the market but then what. We have seconds for the online photos to make an impression. Will those photos show an inviting, livable space or an empty space that should have the caption “Use Your Imagination Here”. A staged home shows clearly the scale and function of the space with the added bonus of being PRETTY! For over four decades, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase has raised more than $17 million to benefit the San Francisco University High School Financial Aid Program. This year, neither pandemic nor wildfire stayed its organizers from bringing the event to fruition. On Saturday, the 43rd Annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase opened to the public virtually, after public-health orders delayed the event’s original April opening date. This latest edition celebrates West Coast talents while highlighting the wares of high-end sponsors such as The Shade Store, Waterworks, Circa Lighting, and Kohler. While the linear, unadorned furniture and fixtures certainly put the “modern” in Regan Baker’s Modern Mediterranean kitchen and breakfast nook, the installation also pays homage to 1920s-era kitchens. The cabinetry recalls freestanding pieces, marble countertops, and natural brass finishes that will wear with age. Notably, the cabinets’ verdigris color provides instant patina.

The finished product never grows old and the customer is so delighted not to have that tired plain dull bead board backsplash any more. Also, the big bonus is that they weren't at a place financially to be able to remodel the whole kitchen and this let them have a 'wow factor' anyway.
