Design:
When our clients purchased their vacation home in Winter Park, they loved the location, but the exterior no longer reflected their style. Having partnered with us on their Boulder home a few years ago, they knew what it felt like to go through our process. There was already trust, already a shared language around design.
So when it came time to reimagine their mountain retreat, they reached out again, ready to create something that felt cohesive with their personal aesthetic yet uniquely suited to its alpine surroundings. And so, the goal of this Winter Park remodel was simple: transform an outdated exterior into a refined mountain-modern retreat.
We used their Boulder home as a stylistic foundation (clean lines, thoughtful contrast, intentional materiality) but softened and adapted the palette to embrace the rugged beauty of Winter Park. The design leaned into a more natural, mountain-inspired expression while maintaining the minimal sophistication they love. Every selection was made to feel timeless, grounded, and appropriate for a home nestled in the Rockies.
Build:
Although there were no structural changes, the transformation was comprehensive. We redesigned and refreshed every exterior component to align with the new mountain modern vision. Updated finishes, refined details, and a carefully curated material palette gave the home a cohesive, elevated presence.
Durability was equally important. Mountain homes must stand up to heavy snow, intense sun, and fluctuating temperatures. We selected long-lasting, low-maintenance materials, including composite decking, to ensure the exterior performs beautifully for years to come.
The result is a fully realized Winter Park remodel that feels intentional, contemporary, and perfectly at home in its surroundings, a vacation retreat that now reflects the same warmth and design clarity as their primary residence.

This screened-in porch is captivated by this Hartwell Outdoor Dining set. When asked about what inspired the space, Summer said, “This family of seven wanted a screened porch that would be an extension of their kitchen and dining room. They wanted a space to enjoy outdoor dining and to host extended family and friends. The space needed to be beautiful yet durable enough for an active family with little ones. That's why we customized a table from Rustic Trades.”
The environment has three spaces to gather with the main area being the handcrafted Hartwell Outdoor Dining Table. This table sizes at 96"L by 36"W by 30"H comfortably seating around 8 individuals. It has a Slatted Outdoor top crafted out of Ipe Hardwoods with a Teak Color.

Blau-Thompson Residence
This Civil War era, 1680-square-foot three-story row house is located in the Italian Market section of Philadelphia. The BluPath Design principals and their young child were the clients. The project goal was to upgrade a traditional housing type to meet a contemporary lifestyle, applying both sustainable criteria and clean, modern yet sensual aesthetics. The challenge of the property (only 830 square feet in lot size) was to create a design that was small, but smart.
The structure formerly housed a luncheonette with two apartments above. The interior was gutted and renovated into a single family home. The construction of a small rear addition added a new kitchen on the first floor and new bathrooms on the second and third levels. The east-west orientation of the home was ideal for the roof-mounted solar collectors, which were installed to provide domestic hot water and supplement the new radiant floor heating system. Exterior sensors improve the efficiency of the heating system's response to fluctuations in outside temperature. A new white-coated, rubber membrane roof reduced the structure's heat gain by 20 percent. A water catch system collects rainwater and air conditioner condensation to water the home's small rear garden.
Large windows and skylights bring light deep into the row house and reduce the use of light fixtures. The rear yard garden features ipe decking (a dense, water-repellent hardwood) on permeable compacted gravel to minimize storm water runoff. BluPath Design’s principals used the project to demonstrate how sustainability can be integrated with beauty and function, with sensual materials and colors, well-proportioned and light-filled rooms, economic use of space, and thoughtful details. Cherry flooring and custom stairs complement the Indian slate tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen features custom walnut cabinets with blue granite counters and backsplashes. The first floor dining area is illuminated by a BluPath-designed fiber-optic chandelier. Ipe hardwood is also used for the master bath tub-surround and shower floor. Sliding frosted glass panels separating the master bath from other living areas allows light from the corner windows to naturally illuminate the adjacent room.

The opening was custom framed to accommodate the new french door and 2 side lite panels. Along with that PVC trim was used to finish the inside paneling to resist moisture and the shrinking and expansion from the temperature fluctuations.

To prevent extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations inside the cellar, we used a closed cell foam insulation which is already a combination of an insulating material and vapor barrier. We tore down that part of the home's wall to install the right insulation, lighting, electrical, and cooling equipment before closing it with a Greenboard drywall.

We were given the challenge of designing a house overlooking a pond on a site constrained by wetlands. Our client had an interest in permanence and solidity and a desire to work with architectural concrete. Additionally, the client desired interiors that would showcase their substantial art collection. Our design approach began with the footprint of an L-shaped courtyard house, which in part, was determined by the limited buildable area. The house is sited on a natural rise in the land, allowing the first floor elevation to rise 15 ft above the pond’s surface; this height provides dynamic views through the trees that separate the house from the pond. Ultimately, our design leverages the inherent capabilities of architectural concrete i.e. its structural capacity; the material allows for bold cantilevers and expanses of glass, creating greater transparency between interior and exterior environments.
The interior palette is comprised of rift sawn oak with 16-inch wide oak plank flooring, oak casework and millwork, a stainless steel and glass main staircase, and minimalist concrete details throughout. On the upper level, the plan accommodates a master bedroom suite, three children’s bedrooms, and a family room. The first floor includes a guest bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room, office, and family room. The ground level has a recreational room, a mudroom, and office/studio. The site plan employs native plantings and includes a small resistance pool in the courtyard.
Concrete will be utilized for all of the house’s structural and insulation components. This method modulates the fluctuation of interior temperature, creating both an energy-efficient envelope and enough concrete mass to keep temperatures moderate and consistent throughout a 24-hour day. The employment of triple-glazed windows and a triple-glazed aluminum curtain wall further increases the project’s energy efficiency and allows the house to have abundant glass. Natural light permeates the interior and affords spectacular view in all directions of both Todd Pond and the neighboring woodlands.

Freestanding, Douglas-fir, 16′ x 32′ timber frame DIY pergola kit with a footprint of 14′ x 30′. It features a TimberVolt™ power post, Roosevelt style beam & rafter end profiles, Classic and full arched knee braces with decorative keystones and finished in a premium high-grade UV protective White timber stain.

This project entailed the draining of a 200,000 cubic foot pond which was originally constructed in the early 1900s in order to install a water feature. I had previously dammed the lower pond, which was roughly equivalent in size to the upper pond, with stonework to match the existing stone walkways. The lower pond will be utilized as a catch-basin in an effort to keep the upper pond’s water level at a sufficient height through a pump system.
After the removal of over a 100 years worth of sediment, I began constructing several terraces, stone steps, stone walkways, and several stone retaining walls — all stone features were built without the use of mortar so as to allow plant growth, such as vines and flowering plants to grow through the stonework.
The difficulty I faced, oddly enough, was trying to be as random as possible with the placement of the stones, so as to make the stonework appear as though it had been built alongside some of the pre-existing 100-year-old stone walls scattered across other areas of the property. In essence, I forced myself to leave larger gaps in between stones where I typically wouldn’t, as well as leave some stones protruding from the wall, and allowing the wall to slightly fluctuate in height. All of which required me to become a perfectionist of randomness, which was quite trying of me.
The top 2 feet of the 2,000-foot upper pond was then faced and retained with stone.

This dramatic contemporary residence features extraordinary design with magnificent views of Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the ever changing San Francisco Bay. The amazing great room has soaring 36 foot ceilings, a Carnelian granite cascading waterfall flanked by stairways on each side, and an unique patterned sky roof of redwood and cedar. The 57 foyer windows and glass double doors are specifically designed to frame the world class views. Designed by world-renowned architect Angela Danadjieva as her personal residence, this unique architectural masterpiece features intricate woodwork and innovative environmental construction standards offering an ecological sanctuary with the natural granite flooring and planters and a 10 ft. indoor waterfall. The fluctuating light filtering through the sculptured redwood ceilings creates a reflective and varying ambiance. Other features include a reinforced concrete structure, multi-layered slate roof, a natural garden with granite and stone patio leading to a lawn overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Completing the home is a spacious master suite with a granite bath, an office / second bedroom featuring a granite bath, a third guest bedroom suite and a den / 4th bedroom with bath. Other features include an electronic controlled gate with a stone driveway to the two car garage and a dumb waiter from the garage to the granite kitchen.

Desert environments like Palm Springs will see large amounts of sun with drastic fluctuations of temperature during winter. Ipe was the perfect wood for this desert environment because of its tight grain, hardness, and natural oils.
