Charles Rose is one of the most talented and creative people I have worked with. He and his amazing staff have worked on several projects for us: A complete gut and renovation of an old meandering house on the water. The space had been added on to over the years and made no sense and had no connection with the water in front of it. The transformation has been magical. He has also designed our incredible mountain home in Wyoming. This job has been from the ground up including land selection, sighting, design and building. The project allowed his creativity to shine and his approach to how the house sits on the land is genius. We have worked with him every step of the way and he has melded our ideas and wishes with his talents into a completely original and masterful design. He has overseen and been involved every step of the project. I cannot recommend Charles Rose Architects more highly!

Charles Rose has a wonderfully sophisticated but accessible aesthetic that honors nature, the landscape and topography of a site, and brings the clients' vision to an exciting next level. We knocked down an existing house on our property in Martha's Vineyard that had two other dwellings on it. We live next to a sheep farm, and due to height restrictions and other limitations, we had to figure out a way to maintain the integrity of the entire site while also maximizing the view over the farm to the ocean. Charlie's ideas to create a modern house that spoke to the two traditional dwellings on the property was brilliant, and not only allowed us to think out of the box in a creative way, but also took advantage of an irrigated green roof, solar panels, and other special elements that enhanced the home and the environment. His attention to detail and his insistence on perfection while always working hand-in-hand with our personal wishes, allowed us to really feel a true sense of collaboration. Charlie and his team are incredibly pleasant and easy to work with, and almost ten years later, we still love our home as much as the day it was completed!

We did a ground up build of a post modern house on a difficult lot. We asked that the house meld with the landscape and have as minimal a footprint as possible. Charles achieved this in a timely and cost effective manner. At our request he was highly collaborative and most important listened to our wishes. The project came in on time and on budget despite the many challenges of zoning, geography and unusual materials. It has been a pleasure to use it and live there.

Charles Rose himself, and all the architects and designers at his firm that I worked with, were wonderful partners in designing and building our dream home. We were embarking upon a project for a vacation house that was a good five-hour drive from our primary residence, so we not only needed design help, but significant assistance with project management and really keeping an eye on the contractors during the build. We felt that CRA not only designed a beautiful house for us and made the experience a fun one, but also provided the invaluable service of project management. We found them to be really strong advocates when it came to contractor billing issues, timing issues and change management. They worked with us to make sure that our project was doable in the budget we had allotted, took into account the unusual landscape of the property we had, and actually helped with design for the landscaping work after the build was complete. I now count Charles Rose among my friends, and I only wish I had another house to build so that I could work with him again.

We hired Charles Rose Architects to do a gut renovation for a 3,700 square foot penthouse apartment. The large loft space created many architectural challenges, including how to create an interior staircase to the roof. Charles' creativity, ingenuity, and expertise resulted in a stunning home. And the results speak for themselves: since completion, the penthouse has been featured in more than a dozen fashion shoots, TV shows, and commercials, including ads for Hugo Boss, Apple, and CBS Television. Charles Rose Architects were also very helpful in recommending ways to stay within our budget, which we did.

Charles Rose Architects designed a 2000 sq foot house (with as much deck) for us on an island off the coast of Maine on an oceanfront site that had never before been developed. Charles took great care in siting the house in relation to the water, woods, and other islands so that every room in the house would have stunning views unique to each room. He listened carefully to our values, priorities, thoughts and concerns throughout the process, and cared deeply about all of the details from start to finish. Charles and his fantastic colleagues were an absolute joy to work with -- for us as well as for the builders and tradespeople involved -- responsive to everyone's input, full of ideas and problem-solving, patience, good-humor, enthusiasm and professionalism, as well as great humanity. They treated everyone with respect and were accessible all of the time, even years after the project was completed and we had questions about maintenance. The house exceeds our dreams -- it feeds our hearts, minds, and souls. It is in harmony with Nature that surrounds it, provides the intimacy and privacy we'd hoped for, and its architectural beauty uplifts us daily, like no other home we have ever lived in. It is a refuge and a beloved home.
