Our Bellevue studio created a calm, peaceful sanctuary in this beautiful Sammamish home for our busy clients and their young children. We chose a neutral palette with pops of blues, greens, and wood tones to create a warm coastal appeal. In the living room, elegant furniture and comfortable fabrics create a charming, welcoming vibe. The primary bedroom is designed as a sanctuary for relaxation with cozy furnishings, soft colors, and a hint of greenery. Meanwhile, in the kids' bedrooms, we chose playful colors and cute decor that create a cheerful ambiance. The open-concept kitchen and family living room have a bright, airy feel, making it a great place for warm get-togethers. We also added a fun and functional office space with plenty of storage space for files and documents.

This condominium apartment is located at Locust Walk at Washington Square, an adaptive reuse of the turn of the century, five-story brick building that formerly housed Lippincott Publishing. Located in the Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, and overlooking Washington Square, the design of the project preserved the distinct architectural character of the building by fitting 26 condominium apartments within the existing structure. Cecil Baker + Partners provided the design and documentation for the base building renovation and determined the unit distribution. The developer then sold each unit as raw space, and each buyer had the opportunity to customize their units. Cecil Baker + Partners ultimately provided custom designs for five of the residences.
This 1800 square foot apartment was designed for a busy working couple. It provides an open living space that while being thoroughly modern, also embraces the original character of the building. The heavy timber and steel structure was sandblasted and exposed providing for a warm backdrop for a clean, modern intervention.

In order to save a historic childhood home, originally designed by renowned architect Alfred Giles, from being demolished after an estate stale, the current owners commissioned Fisher Heck to help document and dismantle their home for relocation out to the Hill Country. Every piece of stone, baluster, trim piece etc. was documented and cataloged so that it could be reassembled exactly like it was originally, much like a giant puzzle. The home, with its expansive front porch, now stands proud overlooking the sprawling landscape as a fully restored historic home that is sure to provide the owners with many more memories to come.

The Living Room includes this writing desk. A new portrait of James Monroe, President of the United States, and original member of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia, was added over the door to the bedroom. The documents over the desk were reframed, and include a letter of gratitude from the University of Virginia to the Society of the Cincinnati, and the larger document thanking Mrs. Anderson for the donation of Anderson House to the Society of the Cincinnati. The new console table between the windows includes a pair of Mottahedeh vases. The existing window treatments were taken down, cleaned, and reinstalled after the room was repainted in its new rich gold color. A new oriental rug replaced the worn one. No strangers to remodeling, the new owners of this St. Paul tudor knew they could update this decrepit 1920 duplex into a single-family forever home.
A list of desired amenities was a catalyst for turning a bedroom into a large mudroom, an open kitchen space where their large family can gather, an additional exterior door for direct access to a patio, two home offices, an additional laundry room central to bedrooms, and a large master bathroom. To best understand the complexity of the floor plan changes, see the construction documents.
As for the aesthetic, this was inspired by a deep appreciation for the durability, colors, textures and simplicity of Norwegian design. The home’s light paint colors set a positive tone. An abundance of tile creates character. New lighting reflecting the home’s original design is mixed with simplistic modern lighting. To pay homage to the original character several light fixtures were reused, wallpaper was repurposed at a ceiling, the chimney was exposed, and a new coffered ceiling was created.
Overall, this eclectic design style was carefully thought out to create a cohesive design throughout the home.
Come see this project in person, September 29 – 30th on the 2018 Castle Home Tour.

This grand formal library was outfitted with walnut paneling & built-in bookshelves to display the client's extensive antique book collection.
