My clients had always been inspired by the grand Tudor Revival homes of the early 20th century and commissioned Hull Historical to recreate the authentic custom millwork, paneling and doors for their new Tudor Revival home. Our inspiration came from 2 great English homes, Stan Hywett, a great Tudor Revival home in Ohio, built for the founder of Goodyear Tires. Also, the Woodbine Mansion, built in 1911 for the son of the Pabst Brewing Company. We were fortunate to purchase three rooms of architectural millwork from the woodbine home, which was originally fabricated by the Huber Company of New York. Upon completion of this project, the architectural salvage comprised 15% of the final quantity of paneling installed. The remainder was custom fabricated by Hull Historical at our shop in Fort Worth, TX and installed at the clients home. The commission, based on historic precedent, constituted antique paneling on the main floor, beamed ceilings and all the doors in the home. The new paneling, including the kitchen cabinetry is made from a combination of new quarter-sawn white oak and antique white oak salvaged from old barns and buildings. All the oak was fumed in an ammonia-filled chamber to produce a cocoa color and deep feel giving the millwork rough character and a timeless look that my client loved. The millwork also served to give the home a hierarchy, with simple paneling combined with board and batten doors downstairs, then more ornate paneling, with carvings on the main floor. Additionally, the main floor features mostly 8 and 10 panel doors. All woodwork was hand-pegged with oak pegs. Some of the paneling features a unique Mason’s Miter, a historic joinery technique inspired from stone work. A young family of four recently purchased a home with an unfinished basement. Each member of the family had their own opinion of how to use the space: dad wanted a music room, mom loves to dance and have parties, and the children wanted a media/game room where they could hang out with their friends. Fortunately, the basement was big enough to meet all their needs. The renovation includes a secluded sound proof music room that doubles as an office, a home gym with full-length mirrors and a multi-purpose area for dancing and entertaining. A full bar area with sink, dishwasher, microwave, wine cooler and under-the-counter refrigerator features granite countertops and custom cabinetry. Complete with high-back bar stools, it is a great gathering space during the parties the family loves to host. The focal point of the basement is a gas fireplace with ledger stone surround. Mood lighting, sconces, pendants, recessed lights and a disco ball provide plenty of lighting options. Last, but not least, is a high-tech media room with 110” large screen television. Let the games begin!

We began by digging the footings for the deck and sunroom; however, we immediately ran into a problem. The back of the lot was built on fill dirt, which meant the structure would need extra support. Fortunately for the customer, with over 20 years of experience in the industry and having dealt with this type of problem before, we were able to contact our structural engineer who devised a plan to take care of the issue. Therefore, what would have been a large problem turned into a simple time delay with some additional cost requirements. To fix the situation, we would up having to dig 12-foot-deep footings with an excavator before adding some additional helical piers for the deck posts and sunroom foundation (FYI – typical footing depth is two feet). Since the customer understood that this was an unexpected situation, we created a change order to cover the extra cost. Still, it’s important to note that the very nature of construction means that hidden situations may occur, so it’s always wise for customers to have contingency plans in place before work on the home begins. In the end, we finished on time and within the homeowners budget, and they were thrilled with the quality of our work.

We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on this clean NW Contemporary home. Due to its remote location, our goal was to pre-fabricate as much as possible and shorten the installation time on site. We were able to cut and pre-fit all the glue-laminated timber frame structural elements, the Douglas Fir tongue and groove ceilings, and even the open riser Maple stair. The pictures mostly speak for themselves; but it is worth noting, we were very pleased with the final result. Despite its simple modern aesthetic with exposed concrete walls and miles of glass on the view side, the wood ceilings and the warm lighting give a cozy, comfy feel to the spaces. The owners were very involved with the design and build, including swinging hammers with us, so it was a real labor of love. This fall, Amethyst had the opportunity to partner with Freeman Custom Homes of Kansas City to furnish this 5000 sq ft European Modern designed home for the Artisan Home Tour 2020! Every square inch of this home was magical -- from the secret staircase in the master bath leading to a private shuttered plunge pool to the vaulted kitchen with sky high mushroom colored cabinetry and handmade zellige tile. We met the builders during the cabinetry phase and watching their final, thoughtful design details evolve was such full of over-the-top surprises like the unique valet-like storage in the entry and limestone fireplace! As soon as we saw their vision for the home, we knew our furnishings would be a great match as our design style celebrates handmade rugs, artisan handmade custom seating, old-meets-new art, and let's be honest -- we love to go big! They trusted us to do our thing on the entire main level and we enjoyed every minute. The load in took 3 full trucks and fortunately for us -- the homeowners fell in love with several pieces so our uninstall trip was significantly lighter. I think we were all a little emotional leaving this masterpiece but sooooo happy for the owners and just hoping we get invited to a Christmas party... Here are some of the highlights -- 90% of the furnishings and rugs were from our shop and we filled in the gaps with some extra special pieces!

Alloy was truly fortunate to have the opportunity to restore and renovate this 1850’s log cabin at Afton Mountain. No home looks more at home than this cabin in the foothills. The cabin suffered years of decay and an unsympathetic interior renovation so our first step was to work with a local log cabin specialist to correctly restore the structure. We then rebuilt much of the interior to have everything a modern home needs while staying true to the log cabin aesthetic. On all of our projects we carefully research materials and finishes but this one really took that to the next level. We enjoyed the challenge and the chance to show off the impressive craftsmanship of our carpenters. As you approach on the winding path, the log cabin feels like a part of the landscape. And now, when you come inside, you can keep that connected feeling – in comfort.

When this sweet family of three welcomed their new baby girl, they immediately outgrew their 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home. The primary goal for this remodel was to add a master suite addition on a modest budget. Because the budget was a concern, the original plan was to add the master suite with an entry of the existing kitchen. Though this would have certainly been a simpler project, it was not the ideal layout for the home. With careful planning and materials selections, we were able to stretch our clients' budget to give them more square footage and a layout that was much more functional and better suited for their home. In order to create a layout that made sense, the existing bathroom needed to be relocated to allow for a hallway leading to the new space. We were then able to design an addition that included a master bedroom, closet, and bathroom - as well as a new hall bathroom and an expanded and remodeled kitchen. The clients wanted a clean, updated look - however, the functionality of the space was the top priority. In order to keep costs down, the clients were happy to select affordable finish options such as pre-fabricated vanities, fiberglass tub and shower units, vinyl plank flooring, and stained (rather than painted) kitchen cabinets. The clients are fortunate to have a very large backyard to allow for the addition with plenty of space left over for entertaining outdoors. They were thrilled to finally have a master bedroom that they did not have to share with their infant daughter.

This Carmel Valley complete remodel truly defines an open-concept living space that is elegant, functional, and full of beautiful finishes. We were fortunate enough to be a part of helping to restore this 93 year old home back to its original beauty. The kitchen cabinets are by Dynasty in Alder with a Riverbed finish and Lyssa door style. The kitchen countertops are Fantasy Brown Granite. Bathroom vanities are by Dynasty in Maple with a Pearl White Finish and a brushed Ebony glaze in the Renner door style. The vanity tops are Dupont Zodiak Quartz Cloud White.

Although this couple was fortunate to have “his and her” master bathrooms, they both needed attention. Now they each have a retreat! “Hers” features a new floating wall to the bright new Master Closet/Vanity area. An island & large custom closet provide plenty of storage. “Hers” also features a soaker tub, seamless glass shower, and a “fireplace”. His” features an expanded shower, more efficient storage, rich colors and bright white wainscoting for an elegant feel.

In this picture gallery, we see a kitchen remodeling example emphasizing that you don’t have to spend a fortune to renovate a sizable kitchen. By choosing Ikea kitchen cabinets with a medium-priced Ikea kitchen door, you can save but still have a gorgeous and elegant kitchen. From a small dining room and a medium size kitchen, we created a large airy gorgeous kitchen with an oversized island. We used a few Ikea kitchen glass doors on the island to emphasize the pretty china glass. We designed the kitchen with a 32” granite coated Franke main sink and a small prep sink next to the bar area close to the French doors that lead to the deck. We chose a white quartz countertop with subtle veining named Satuario.
