We have been fortunate to work for this owner for several years and through several homes. In this project we have renovated almost every room in the home including the carrage house above the garage.

This full landscaping renovation didn’t come without its challenges. The project included plants, lawn area, natural boulder steps, flagstone on the concrete front walk, large flagstone patio on the stone dust, parged block walls, a paver driveway, a gravel drainage area, landscaping lighting and irrigation. A sizable project for a small area, we wanted to focus on meeting the client’s expectations in both cost and end results. Some changes in scope were made but fortunately did not cause any delays in installation. The final product resulted in a sanctuary like space for the client to enjoy for years to come.

This Mid-Century Modern riverfront home embraces some Japanese architectural traits with the roof lines and the entry gate which is reminiscent of the Torii gates. We embraced the traditional Torii red as the accent color for the side and front doors which will traditionally bring good fortune.

A place to recover, a place to reset, and a sanctuary from the outside world, the bedroom is used for more than just sleeping. To expose an object, light must reflect off its surface. Corner focal point: range and hood with custom display niche enhanced with glass mosaic tile inserts. The homeowners requested that the hood motor be located on the roof. The challenge: this is a two-story home! Fortunately, a linen closet was located directly above the angled corner, so a 10" round duct could be installed without any strange angles and bends.

Updated Spec Home: Basement Living Area I promised you there would be a Season 2 of our series Updated Spec Home and here it is – Basement Family Room. My mom and sister found themselves spending more and more time in this room because it was a great open space to watch television and hang out with my sister’s two border collies. Color Scheme We pulled our color scheme from a floral fabric that they saw on a chair at my store, and we used it to reupholster their existing wood accent chairs. We used pops of turquoise and green throughout the space including the long back wall which was perfect to make a feature with this vibrant wallpaper in a geometric design. Defining the Space The room was so large that we needed to define different areas. The large rug in the oversized pattern was perfect for the seating area. Lighting Since there is only one small window bringing natural light into the space, we painted the remaining walls a light warm gray (Sherwin Williams’ City Loft SW7631) and added several table lamps and a floor lamp for task lighting. Reusing Existing Furniture Fortunately the space was large enough so my sister could keep her fabulous worn leather chair and ottoman and my mom could have an upholstered chair and ottoman in a subtle blue and green tweed. The large hallway leading to the storage area was the perfect place for these small bookcases which house family photos in various silver frames. The bookcases have a special place in our hearts – they belonged to my grandparents. We accessorized with a long painted box which was the perfect scale for the bookcases and a grouping of vibrant botanical prints. In lieu of a conventional media cabinet, my mom and sister found this one with a built-in fireplace. It brings a lot of warmth into the space – literally! Painted Furniture We had Kelly Sisler of Kelly Faux Creations paint their existing glass front cabinet this awesome apple green. Accessories include turquoise floral vases, a metallic circular vase, and a beautiful floral print. Reading Nook We positioned this original oil painting in the landing so it would be visible from the seating area. The landing was the perfect spot to display my sister’s collection of art glass. I love the small reading nook created with this rattan wooden accent chair and lantern floor lamp. We were able to make good use of the ledge in the stairwell by leaning these vibrant watercolors. The dogs even have their own space. Meet my two “nephews” – Dill and Atticus (the one with his back to us pouting). We used this colorful oversized canvas to define their space and break up the long wall. As you know, one good thing leads to another. Morpurgo Architects was retained by a Fortune 100 CEO and his wife, owners of this grand brick manor house, to renovate the lower level of their home and increase the existing area for a spa and entertainment. Above this new space, we created an expansive deck, accessible from the kitchen and the first floor living areas. Our firm surmounted numerous challenges presented by the significant height of the deck and our clients’ desire for immediacy to the pond below. We mitigated and resolved the height differences by designing a system of stairs and platforms that provide overlooks to the landscape, thereby facilitating transitions among the many levels. Between the first floor and the lower level, we have constructed a mezzanine that is situated between two levels of stairs. This spacious landing prompts one to pause and view the family room through a wood-arched ceiling, with flanking wood display cases, before entering this well-appointed social area that contains the family room with a fireplace, pub, billiard room and solarium. A separate apartment, full-service cabana with kitchen and two bathrooms, sauna and a gym were also developed to satisfy the owner’s program. Morpurgo Architects is known for its fastidious detailing, exemplified in this magnificent home by walnut-blasted oak paneling and built-ins that the firm designed to enhance the family’s entertainment space.

This expansive kitchen began it's journey with white wash cabinets, and straight line upper cabinets. Five of the upper cabinets were changed out to custom builds with taller and deeper replacements to match the existing style. We put glass panel doors on three of the uppers to create an area for the owner to showcase their nice pieces at the breakfast nook area. We then refinished the entire kitchen cabinets to a creamy off white. We changed out the corian island top to black granite and applied a stone veneer to the base walls of the island to give the kitchen a dramatic new look. New light fixtures, laminate flooring and wall color brought the kitchen to life with warmth and a cozy feel. Both fireplaces in the home got a makeover with stone veneer to match what was used at the kitchen island. We created a mantle with MDF molding at the family room over the existing drywall popout to give dimension and interest to the fireplace. Our latest project, an elegant modernisation of a 1920s seafront detached Essex property, features in the February 2024 edition of 25 beautiful Homes. This enterprise grew from an initial entrance hall cabinetry commission into a much larger project, encompassing many aspects of interior design, including decorative schemes for colours and finishes, spatial planning and lighting design. We also produced a wide range of cabinetry designs throughout the property, including the wine wall, principle bed and headboard, his and hers dressing room wardrobes and bespoke 5m drop staircase lighting feature, which runs through the whole house. We were fortunate to be part of a great project team, working alongside talented builders Intelligent Building, joinery masters Nord Build and home automation wizards P&R Service.

The Home While looking for space where their active family could expand, these homeowners turned to Black Forest, with trees that remind them of their Indiana years. A stunning Pikes Peak view underscores how fortunate they are to live in Colorado. This home features classic nods to the owner’s French heritage while embracing a thoroughly of-the-moment Colorado lifestyle. Priorities for these homeowners included blending outdoor and indoor spaces wherever possible with generously proportioned windows and doors, porches, patios and balconies. A gracious lime-washed brick entry punctuates a simplified white stucco and black-frame-windowed exterior with traditional rooflines. From 2020 to 2022 we had the opportunity to work with this wonderful client building in Altadore. We were so fortunate to help them build their family dream home. They wanted to add some fun pops of color and make it their own. So we implemented green and blue tiles into the bathrooms. The kitchen is extremely fashion forward with open shelves on either side of the hoodfan, and the wooden handles throughout. There are nodes to mid century modern in this home that give it a classic look. Our favorite details are the stair handrail, and the natural flagstone fireplace. The fun, cozy upper hall reading area is a reader’s paradise. This home is both stylish and perfect for a young busy family.

The area on which the building falls is located in Pradebon, along the east side of Bongaio, between the provincial road to Lamosano and the road to Chies. The house belongs to the spouses Zanon Antonio and Piazza Rosa. This home is made for happy summer vacations and relaxation. This fun project turned a cold, drafty attic into a family gathering space which functions as an effective “hat” on the house. Structural, mechanical, and spatial gymnastics were required to beef up the floor joists and rafters, relocate ducts, and provide a code-approved stair. The old subfloor was repurposed as interior cladding, contrasting nicely with the painted built-ins.
