Guests enter the home through a walled courtyard garden and walk into this large foyer with beautiful millwork and moldings. The Japanese screens flanking the entry into the living room were purchased by the clients in London, adding drama to the space while offering a glimpse into their collection of Eastern antiques and artwork. A custom circular ottoman reminiscent of a piece that might be found in a private club in London was designed and upholstered in a crushed linen-mohair blend accented with an intertwining nailhead pattern. The spectacular chandelier was the clients’ own.

This stunning foyer has a raised and beaded floridated design that is a great contrast to the black absolute marble. The black velvet ottomans have beaded silver and black rhinestones in a straight pattern along the top with a rhinestone button (from M&J trimmings,NYC) and the edges are done in a Chrystal in silver and black beaded trim in an Art Deco pattern. The corners are inset with silver cloth. The sofa/foyer table is mirrored along with the wall sconces and oval mirror.

Italian pendant lighting stands out against the custom graduated slate fireplace, custom old-growth redwood slab dining table with casters, contemporary high back host chairs with stainless steel nailhead trim, custom wool area rug, custom hand-planed walnut buffet with sliding doors and drawers, hand-planed Port Orford cedar beams, earth plaster walls and ceiling. We utilized this existing art niche, and made it into a place to remove shoes when entering. The custom ottoman pulls out for cleaning, and the trimmed wallpaper insert acts as art.
