Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional backyard concrete paver patio remodel in Richmond with a fire pit and no cover

The traditional fountain and surroundings are embellished with a variety of drought tolerant grasses, flowering plants and succulents. The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs provides more outdoor living space for dining and entertaining for the homeowners' enjoyment. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn there is less maintenance and a lower water bill. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways resulting in an updated and contemporary transformation. A variety of low-water plants including succulents offer year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons to include Sedum rupestre 'Angelina', with chartreuse foliage, other varieties of sedum along with Echeveria succulents, Echinacea and grases. As part of the overall all layout, we designed and installed a 3 foot wide decomposed granite walkway that circulated around and near the perimeter of the entire property. One owner was a distance runner and this pathway allowed him to jog at home. Space was left on the outside of the path to include plantings as needed for screening from other properties, and the golf course itself. The forest in the area was in decline from previous drought and infestation with Pine Bark Beetle, so an arborist was brought in on the project and she helped select and place plantings to reforest the perimeter. A few select trees were placed for interest within the interior lawn area.
