Welcome to the foyer at The French Chateau. This is the space I first fell in love with; as I have wanted a home with a curved staircase since I was a little girl. Immediately upon entering, you are greeted with the view of our round foyer table as seen here. The objects I have chosen to accentuate this area are meaningful to me. For example, the tall pink cherry blossoms put my favorite color, pink, on display. The gardenia candle is intended to welcome guests with a soft, pretty scent. The sculpture is called "Butterflies for Brains". My name, Vanessa, means butterfly. My maternal grandmother, Ruth, loved butterflies as well. So this sculpture not only visually reminds me of her, but it also is symbolic of who I am and how I view the world. At first blush the phrase 'butterflies for brains" may imply being flighty or whimsical...but to me instead it means being creative and living life as a creative, always looking for beauty.

One of the spaces I cherish the most in my own home, The French Chateau, is the great room. This big open space with tall ceilings and a grand stone fireplace is somehow both large and cozy at the same time. To create this illusion I created a "room within a room". Soft blue velvet couches facing one another, resting on a centered rug, create a smaller space to the visual eye. Yet the reality is, there is still room for another sitting group, a desk, plants, and a console we use for our children's items. Our family recently grew to include six of us, so having a space like this where we can all be together comfortably is ideal. It's both functional and beautiful...my favorite combination!

One of the best features of The French Chateau, is that it has enough room to be a wonderful space for entertaining. I designed the dining room in particular to be primed for having guests or dinner parties. From a beautiful built in cabinetry area for setting out coffee and dessert, to a hand painted sideboard cabinet, and even a champagne bucket and stand we brought back from a Paris market...this space is truly locked and loaded for hosting our friends and family with ease.

A French Country chateau living room with exposed wood ceiling beams, a full height stone fireplace wall, black framed windows, layered ring chandeliers, and soft custom seating for a refined European inspired great room.

For this 9,000 square-foot, timber-frame home we designed wholly traditional elements with natural materials, including brushed brass, real chequered marble floors, oak timbers, stone and cast limestone—and mixed them with a modern palette of soft greys and whites. We also juxtaposed traditional design elements with modern furniture: pieces featuring rounded boucle shapes, rattan, Vienna straw, modern white oak chairs. There’s a thread of layered, European timelessness throughout, even though it’s minimalist and airy.
