Design ideas for a contemporary side yard landscaping in San Francisco.

SeaThru is a new, waterfront, modern home. SeaThru was inspired by the mid-century modern homes from our area, known as the Sarasota School of Architecture. This homes designed to offer more than the standard, ubiquitous rear-yard waterfront outdoor space. A central courtyard offer the residents a respite from the heat that accompanies west sun, and creates a gorgeous intermediate view fro guest staying in the semi-attached guest suite, who can actually SEE THROUGH the main living space and enjoy the bay views. Noble materials such as stone cladding, oak floors, composite wood louver screens and generous amounts of glass lend to a relaxed, warm-contemporary feeling not typically common to these types of homes. This modern full-view screen room features top-to-bottom continuous screen panels with no mid-rails, creating a clean, unobstructed view of the backyard. We used reinforced vertical framing and upgraded fine-weave mesh for maximum visibility. This style is ideal for homeowners who want maximum airflow and a minimalist look.

A Trex deck was on the top of their list for the backyard with a decorative screen on the sides of the pergola for privacy. Asymmetrical steps up to the deck add a little playfulness to the deck which despite its generous size, doesn’t overwhelm the small yard. A constrained color palette of black, white and gray in the hardscape give the landscape a crisp and sophisticated appearance but the colorful drought-tolerant plant palette softens the look

Designed and built by Land Art Design, Inc. In this project, we matched the existing roof line to blend the new addition seamlessly. The screened porch provides these homeowners with a year-round view of their wooded landscape . A flagstone patio and EPI deck with wrought iron railing creates several distinct spaces for outdoor dining and entertaining.
